Please make sure you drill a dedicated hole for either a fitting (or just the hose) for the fuel line. The oil door needs to be closed while running so the factory-designed air intake is used. The intake is on the bottom of the generator and gives priority for cooling the inverter! On mine, I drilled a hole in the oil door for a quick connect fitting. If you leave the oil door open, the inverter runs VERY hot.

The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!

That's an excellent generator, we have one. Ran for 30 hours during Dec 23-24 when we had power out from high winds and it was 14 degrees in NC. Ran about half load and kept the whole house going except the 240v items. Propane fireplace to stay warm.

cellpro10 thank you, the nashfuel kit should work fine, I almost used that one but when I look, you had to cut a bit of the plastic, now they have the correct parts not to cut, make sure you install the ignition switch that way you don’t have to empty the gasoline out of the tank before running on natural gas

Commandment Keeper I run it on natural gas from the house so it never needs filling, but if your asking about the price deference between natural gas and gasoline, natural gas costs about 1/3 the price to produce the same amount of power here in California, If you run it on propane the cost will probability be about the same or a bit more as gasoline depends we’re you buy it

When adjusting the mixture use a multimeter to make sure you are getting close to 60 HZ and 120 volts. Natural Gas is the lowest in BTU's so you may have to adjust the governor. I had to on my 6250 Coleman. It's important you do this.

Robert, nice information, I was looking to converter my 2year old 3500 inverter generator. I always have to drain the carb after each use if I am not going to run it the next few days. One thing I want to let you know about. You should not run the unit with the oil access door open. The unit is design to let the engine fan draw fresh air in from the front bottom (air intake) of the generator housing across the inverter heat sink cooling fins into the inside compartment to the carburetor intake and the air cooled engine, exhausting the hot air out the back across the exhaust section. When you run the generator with the oil access door or side cover off you are removing the forced air cooling from the inverter heat sink which can cause damage and overload problems with the inverter. When this generator first came out some people had problems with the engine running rough like it was starving for air. When they opened the oil access door it run fine, because there as something restricting the air flow in the intake. you may what to consider removing the rubber oil pan drain on the bottom of the unit and route the LP hose through there sense you don’t what to drill any holes. This will still divert some air flow from but will help keep your inverter cooler.

Excellent modification and I would have done the same way. I have a Troy Bilt /Briggs & Stratton engine , 5550 watt generator and plan on doing this this same way. I think your way is better since the propane regulator sticks out too far and could cause problems if you are to be mobile with the generator. I will make up a bracket to connect to the propane tank and just have one hose going to the generator. I'll let you know sometime in the late spring of 2022 how it works out. Great job, nice workmanship and keeping the generator as untouched for your modification.

The quick connect in the video are pressure washer quick connect there’s no restriction, regulator air hose quick connect don’t work to much restriction, if I have to do it again I would get the NG BBQ hose with NG quick connect in the end it cheaper Thanks for watching

Yes it still will run a gasoline and propane, but if you want to run on propane you have to adjust the low pressure regulator for propane I think it’s 2 1/2 turns from all the way in, for gasoline just add gasoline.

A 300psi rated hose is a recipe for problems. A low pressure hose has reinforced walls so the hose won't collapse under suction or low pressure.

I’m gonna convert my generator to run on natural gas just because I only run the generator once or twice a year so you really need to drain the gas out every 6 months so you don’t end up ruining the carburetor plus when the power goes out at my house the gas station near me doesn’t have power and when power goes out the lines at gas stations are long so would be much easier running natural gas.

Yes that’s exactly what I do, jump the two hots and it also works as a safety if you plug it in and there’s power on the 240 side it will trip the breaker and not burn up the generator, You can see the cord on the floor in the beginning of the video. and the 240 volt outlet is on the side of the house in the video it has a wet location cover I also use a safety lockout on the house main breaker and a check list for my wife if she needs to do it. You know your electric, I had people ask how it get 240 from a 120 generator, and had electrician’s tell me it won’t work, and other electricians say that’s a great idea I works great and is the safest way to do the suicide cord.

Great video Robert. Anyone see the newest Predator 3500 inverter generators? It looks like they have moved the exterior panels or moved the oil opening to the opposite side of the generator, and the switch for the ignition/gas is no longer shown as in the video. Anyone know how do do this in the newest version of the predator 3500? It looks like they are getting smart to all the conversions and hacks, making it harder to do. Would love to do this hack and no have to install a gas shut-off stopcock valve.

The only issue with NG is that it does not generate near the BTU's as Gasoline or propane per gallon. I do agree NG is be far the cheapest but if you need all the watts you can get I would not go with NG as you will lose about 20% with NG and 10% with Propane.

Pros and cons. Have fun refilling the generator with gas cans every 8 hours. NG will run for months and months. (Assuming you’ll stop every once in a while for oil change) Each fuel has its purpose. Gasoline sucks for long power outages.

I ran it on gasoline first because it wasn’t converted when we had a 2 day power outage got the generator 4 days later it ran for 2 days only stopping for gas, but if I had time I would do it on NG it’s much cleaner oil doesn’t even turn dark. Thanks for watching.

The WEN 3800w (3400w) has an automatic "run dry" fuel drain ...without any mods. A genny saver fo'sho. WEN = 8.5 hours @ %50 vs pred 11 hrs%%25. Not sure about the tri-fuel mod.

Hi, you will lose a bit of power, mine will run 2800 watts Instead of the 3000 W continuous, so you lose a little bit like 200 watts but it’s 1/3 the price to run on natural gas and the oil doesn’t get black and no Exhaust smell. Natural gas has way less pollutants in gasoline and your exhaust will not get clogged up, it’s like Diesel is more efficient than gasoline but most cars out there run on gasoline

Engines running on Propane or natural gas are a bit less efficient don’t matter if the Conversion was installed at the factory or if you do it yourself there always less efficient on the Duel fuel generators that you purchase there’s two ratings one for propane and one gasoline the propane is always less, but is cleaner running and about 1/3 the price for the same power, unless you have your generator at max load all the time you shouldn’t Notice a difference.

Harbor Freight does not have the quick disconnect kit, don’t use air fittings They will restrict the gas too much, The Quick disconnect that I use was a parker kit which is the same as a pressure washer quick connector, If I was going to do it over I would use a natural gas 3/8” or 1/2” Probably the 1/2” barbecue hose with a quick connector you can find them on eBay or Amazon, In my description you can click on the links where You can get parts, there’s a Nash kit on amazon that is made for a propane bottle conversion I would use that one in your case good luck thanks for watching.

Hi Robert, Very informative video. I had a question. You had mentioned in the video that you were not planning to use gasoline. if you are planning to use Natural gas or Propane only. Why did you add a on and off switch, couldn't you turn off your natural gas shut off valve at the source (at your house located by your regulator) or turn off the propane tank valve if you decide to use propane and just let the generator run until it runs out of fuel that way. Wouldn't that accomplish the same thing. Is the on off modification for gas option only?

Hi, I installed the switch before I converted it to NG, and yes if you never use gasoline or have a empty gasoline tank you don’t need the switch, but I always like the option that I can use gasoline if needed and it’s only $5 or $10 to install the switch, if you do the NG conversion get the BBQ 1/2 Hose it’s cheaper and has the quick connectors already installed and is made for natural gas, the air hose was just a test and it worked fine but I will replace it with a proper natural gas hose.

That’s great it work for you. For propane yes that’s all you need to do, but propane needs to have its own regulator, so one on the propane tank and the big low pressure regulator that you have, if it’s hooked up to a house the regulator is already installed at the tank, if you use a BBQ propane bottle it needs a regulator, like the ones the BBQs have, hope this makes sense. Hi Steve, I powered the house, we don’t have A/C, we have 2 full size refrigerators and one small box freezer, a tankless water heater, all the lights in the house are 14 watt LED, it powered just about everything normally but you don’t just turn everything on, we leave the refrigerators and freezer always plug in, we use the TV and the lights as needed, we didn’t use lights on rooms not used and it had enough power for one more appliance like the washing machine or gas dryer or making coffee, the biggest load I saw on it was 23 amps and that was in the beginning after 15 minutes it was around 12 to18 amps, we ran it 24/7 for 3 days and it never overloaded after that I change the oil , and was ready for the next power outage, didn’t use it last year (2020) The best way to change your power consumption is make sure the refrigerators are running, best way is turn them off for 1 hour after turn them on max turn on the lights you think you’re going to need, TV and maybe one appliance furnace, washing machine, don’t worry about the tankless gas water heater it’s minimal then go to you power meter and see how power watts your using. 2.350 kW is 2350 watts Checkout my other videos there’s a Westinghouse IGEN 4500, I will power about 600 watts more if you need more power, we made it work and we’re a family of 4, I do back feed the power but you need to jump the cord so it power the to legs of the panel, all 120 volt outlets and lights will have power but the 240 volt appliance will not work

QUESTION: Have you tried to run your generator on gasoline since the conversion? I have tried the NASH and the USCARB conversions on my Predator 3500 Inverter Generator, both run fine on propane, but [both] will not run properly on gasoline [after the conversion]; both conversions ran very rich on gasoline and would hardly stay running under load. When I remove the Venturi, it runs fine. Please reply. Thank you for the informative video.

Yes I ran it on gasoline and it ran fine, it had about 1/4 of gasoline in the tank after I was done with the conversion so I just burn it off with a load to go faster, change the oil because it had 20+ hours and was getting a bit dark and they say oil stays clean on Natural Gas and propane. Never did a Nash kit, got a Nash Regular only for a igen 4500DF

I know they normally run a bit rich , that’s why they Clog up the spark arrester and plug maybe it’s just Enough to push it over the edge, with the extra Restriction Did you try removing the Spark arrestor to see if that will make it run better as a test, if it’s under warranty maybe send it back, or email get a new carburetor I know they have them on eBay. Mine ran with no problems on gasoline just like before the conversion

I made a video about the running rich. I rejet the carb for my elevation, and that helped it run leaner and not cause the spark arrestor to plug. I had my generator die at 30 hours due to plugged spark arrestor. Have to have correct fuel to air or it will clog.

That’s a Stand alone 8’X8’ kitchen and indoor BBQ it has a big 14” fan with auto on, fire sprinklers and carbon Monoxide detectors, I think it will be fine, we use it to BBQ in the winter. I would never run it that Close to the main house. Thanks for watching and your concern

so that slector knob with the labeled no gas, is shutting of the regular gasoline flow? you started it up with the switch on no gas, yet it worked, so I'm gussing it shot of the gasoline, but allows it to draw propane?

Question: Did you buy 2 harbor freight airlines? 1 of the 8' version, you kept in tact. The 2nd, you cut off one end so you could hose clamp to the carb fitting, keep it coiled behind the oil door, the other end you kept to hook up to your 1st 8' hose?

Only one hose, the kit comes with a small hose and Braided adapter with a 3/8 threaded end that goes on the quick connector, I Suggest you get a 3/8 or 1/2 inch if you need more then 8 feet natural gas barbecue hose with a quick connectors it will be cheaper and its better rated for natural gas that’s what I would do if I had to do it again You can find them on Amazon or eBay.

It seems you know a lot about the Predator 3500 generators watching your KZbin videos. I have a Harbor Freight Predator 3500 Generator/inventor with only 17 hours of run time I have no readings on display gauge for: V - Voltage A - Amperage VA - Volt Amps/Watt I do have on the display gauge. Hour - current run time and accumulative run time I tried a test with a portable heater, and it powers that, so I’m guessing the generator is working OK? I’m worried about not have those missing readings. Also how do you reset the circuit breakers. I can’t find any information in the manual. I’m wondering if that could be the problem of the no readings? Thanks

You can use the Nash kit it’s a bit cheaper than the one I use and will work the same, eBay # 18381599274 $139.99 if you’re going to install after the RV regulator low pressure gas and will work also on natural gas. eBay 183831599316 $179.99 if you’re going to Hook it up directly to the propane bottle

You're not comparing the same type of generators. The Predator is an inverter generator. When you need to connect sensitive electronics you should not be using the Firman. I know people do it but technically you should not run even run refrigerator or Microwave off a standard generator. Also the inverter generator is much quieter and uses a lot less gas.

Question . You said if the hose broke " came off or loose or at the engine which would cause the engine to stall the regulator would not allow gas to escape because it is not drawing of the gas. ??

Yes you’re correct, if there is a hole the engine won’t Produce as much power, on propane or natural gas the engine don’t run lean. It’s probably cheaper if you get a BBQ 3/8 or 1/2 hose if you going over 8 feet, you can find them with the Quick disconnects on them. I did the air hose because I didn’t know if it would work and I had the pressure washer fittings, don’t use air hose Quick connectors they won’t work too much restriction. Thanks for watching
