Any idea on what he had to do to fix it? Maybe the MOSFETS on the heatsinks were shorted? Pretty cool!

I'm not sure what he did to fix it but it was a fast turnaround. He received it on Monday the 18th and that evening told me he had it fixed. I received it on Friday the 22nd. Thanks for watching. Much appreciated.

Hi Dave - glad to see you are keeping busy with fun projects. I need to reach out to you when I get back to AZ to see if my ideas for a new "FrankenRotary" are good or stupid (or a little of both)...

From the symptoms I would guess that the output transistors (probably MOSFETs) had let go shorted. They are the transistors bolted to the heat sink. If you can't tell what was changed he probably did a good job of it.

Dave, glad you managed to get it working without buying a complete assembly. Is that a machinist lathe?

Thanks for watching Larry. It is a mini metalworking lathe. I hope to upgrade to a bigger one soon.

About "hum" : doesn't appen you have collected microphone ( or video camera ) with a double return of "earth" ? Normally the "earth" is to be connected from ONE only point to all devices, so it can act just as a shield, and NO ANY CURRENT should be instead flow in it. It's just an ipothesys ...
