I just watched you review on the transfer pump and wanted to thank you. After 2 back surgeries I still have small particles of shrapnel on the spinal cord which can not be removed. I can walk limited distances, mow the yard and such however, I can not lift over 10 lbs without the chance of severe damage. When I go to the gas station I can only buy 1 gal. of gas at a time for my riding lawnmower unless there's someone else available to pour my gas for me. I suppose I could carry 5 - 1 gal. cans but I don't want to! LMBO, after watching your review I believe I'll try one of these for myself to transfer gas from a 5 gal. can to my lawnmower. Thanks for your review

THIS PUMP IS A TOTAL PIECE OF JUNK. IF YOU GET A SUMMER SUE OUT OF IT CONSIDER YOURSELF LUCKY. THE SWITCHES TOTALLY SUCK. THEY JUST DON'T LAST. I LIKE SOME OF HARBOR FREIGHT STUFF BUT THIS IS CHINA JUNK. HARBOR FREIGHT SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES.

I used it to get windshield wiper fluid at the junk yard, lol. It paid for half of the cost of the pump in less than an hour at the junk yard, just from doing that. Make fun of me if you want, but it saved money. :) Wiper fluid isn't actually used, like most other automotive fluids. It's just being stored. As long as the tank is clean, it's as good as new.

The battery one is OK when you need to transfer on the same level, or even above the fluid source, but it will eat batteries and the single o-ring seal fails real quick. Otherwise, use the cheaper standard vacuum pump and put the fluid source above where it will come out. Either one will work with gas or diesel, but anything heavier than 5W vegatable oil, forget it. I used a battery one for about 3 months, when it died. Now I use a manual one when I transfer fuel after removing ethanol.

7 bucks, worth a try. Your idea for adding a smaller hose was what I was thinking since it doesn’t look like it would fit in a gas tank to drain for winter. Your demo was nice to see how it really worked nicely. I also wish it would have siphoned. D cell batteries? Reminds me of the toys back in the 50’s and 60’s. D and C cells ..... oh boy.... our poor parents!

I agree Mac! I don't know if extending it with a smaller hose will work, as far as priming- but will try it out. Yep, I just happen to have a pack that was still good. I think I bought them for a Mag light years ago but never used them. Take care, G.

I use it for tranferring gas, and really rather not rinse through with water, after. I do it cause suppposedly you are supposed to. My fear is that some water remains within, and next time you try to transfer some fuel, you might get some unwanted water along with with it. Is that a potential problem? What I do as a precaution is waste a little fuel initially, and then start transferring fuel to the equipment.

I would like your opinion. I want to use it to siphon automatic transmission fluid out of the fill tube. Any ideas on attaching a small diameter hose to fit?
@ghostses
@ghostses 2 жыл бұрын
My opinion is this Rod: It will not suck anything up with an attached tube of any sort. I've tried it for my application with just a couple of inches of tubing and it simply doesn't have enough "suction" to make that happen. For what you're wanting to do, it's a no go. Look elsewhere to find a solution for your application. It does work extremely well as it is and what it's for though. Good luck, G.

How long is the clear tube attached to the pump? Is it replaceable? I want to fill excess 5 gallon cans of gas into my truck which sits quite high above the ground 39" so it doesnt look like the clear tube will reach that far. Any thoughts?

I don't have it with me Michael- but as a guess- I would say it's somewhere between 16-24". I doesn't appear to be replaceable but you might be able to figure something out. These pumps have let me down. I purchased the first one it started leaking after about 20 gallons of use with gasoline. Purchased a second pump it started leaking in the same place after about 20 gallons of use. You can not return to harbor freight after you have used it with gasoline, they want you to send it to a different facility. I can not recommend this pump.

The end spins freely but I couldn't get mine off. You might consider using a plastic container with a bunch of small holes and put the pump in it. It should filter most things. Also consider a finer filter on the pump itself- like window screen material. Hope this helps, G.

How did your modification work by putting smaller hose on suction end of pump?
@ghostses

I tested with it a bit George, by using a small piece of clear tubing simply taped to the end. It had trouble priming and getting everything from the test tank if it would prime. There's just not enough suction. Good luck, G.
@jat-justamaturetech-philpj8285
@jat-justamaturetech-philpj8285 3 жыл бұрын
I've just started experimenting with it. Since the bottom siphon has to be in the fluid, if your trying to siphon out of a cars gas tank, you'll need to put a hose inside the tank and fill the hose with gas to the top and then somehow connect the pump to the hose so it's in the liquid. The trick is to find how to adapt the different sizes of hoses?? Meaning the hose size to fit the pump will not fit down into the tank filler tube in newer car's??

I walked into Walmart one day and found a whole box almost like these (HF ones are a little different then most you see) they had marked down to $2. Course I grabbed all them as I'm apt to do, as clearance is my favorite department. Got up to pay for them and I think the cashier was rather smitten, though my daughters who were with me always deny that that is a possibility any gal would be, and she actually gave me a sly look and charged me $1 per (next time we were in and checked out through her per chance, there was a feller that looked a lot like a younger me hanging all over her, though not as handsome as I, that she was getting alone with great, but that didn't crack the disbelief of the daughters much). I actually didn't realize she had only charged me ta $1 per till after I left, but sure wasn't going to complain about it. Mainly bought them for kerosene heaters, but they are good for all sorts of applications. They do suck batteries though, so I have some AA to D sell adapters I use for it. Way better charging the AAs and using them in the adapter considering the cost of D bats. Of course, they have the manual pumps that you can pick up for $1 at the $1 stores, but are probably better off getting some of the ones with the solid tube for the intake rather the flex ones like the outlet. The parts off the $1 ones are great for repair parts too though. As always love your vids, thank you.
