Hi Mr. Lee. That should be a big helper in the shop. More useful than the winch by itself and easier to operate than a trolley with a chain fall. Thanks for the video!

Nice bit of work Lee, great back saver and problem solver to have a sturdy hoist in the shop. Happy New Year, and thanks for the first video of my year! Cheers!

Nice addition to the shop. I would like to have something like that for mine. I have an engine hoist, but its buried in a corner, so doesn't get used that much. I think with a normal load, you won't have any leveling issues. Have a great new year.

I think I’d pick up a pack of cheap ball bearings to put on the top of the pins and maybe make a hook pin for the far side as well

A looped rope or even a ratchet strap is a good tool for holding items to secure them too.

Nice job 👍👍👍 one suggestion though I think you should consider adding a longer triangle gusset to the square to plate connection 👍👍👍

Harbor Freight Hydraulic table SKU(s)61405, 94822, 60730 so you can lift the mock up into place rather than man handle it. For the record youre amazing. I would have thrown out my back trying to do that.

I built a setup almost identical to that a few years ago for my shop. I have an 18" lathe and at 73 i just can't manhandle those chucks and face plate any longer. The face plate itself weighs over 100lbs and the chucks are even heavier.

Nice work Lee. Maybe you could put a tether front the front stop back to the trolley some how. Thanks for the great videos Lee!

The lift cable will serve as the tether to move the trolley back and forth on the beam. 👍🏽

I was thinking the tether too level the hoist so your stop wouldn’t bind on the beam. Sorry I guess I didn’t make that clear.

Instead of having a post on the spool side you might consider making a holder using ball bearings to fit up against the I beam which would elimate that problem completely.

I think I would have used a couple of caster wheels instead of rub post. Good idea anyway.

Should have got two trolleys. Faster, stronger, and no sagging issues. So what if it's overkill. Overbuilt is under rated.

Lee, I think that's a fail. Sorry... the winch belongs 90degrees to the way you have it. That way it hangs level, and does not cause the cable to be to one side or the other. You would not have needed the (LEVELERS)... Happy New Year

You may be right, but I’ve used that winch for nearly 18 years with it hanging like this. Thanks for stopping by. 👍🏽

@@MrPragmaticLee yes, but you had both loops , so it was more or less self leveling. I am not trolling, I've been watching you a long time. At any rate, if you find it's not working, turn it 90... you will see many large electric hoists mounted 90 for the same reason I assume.

I see what you are saying. However I think the way Lee did it for this application is pretty slick. Here was my thought. If mounted that way and you had the cable directly under the beam wouldn't the weight of the motor cause the trolly to bind on the beam so to speak when you had not load on it? Causing it not to roll easy. If you off set the cable to make the winch level then you have the bind with a load on it . My only thought is instead of the solid stop peg the way Lee did it is maybe some tabs and a roller bearing to ride on the bottom side of the beam. Anyway cool video and good ideas.

And I just bought a one of those hoists and the loops don't look very heavy duty.

@@markhall6802 what loops are you talking about? The steel U bolts? they look good enough for 400 lbs.

Better Idea Yet, just buy a trolley designed to have an electric hoist bolted to it for less money than you gave for the Harbor trolley..

I’m gonna start gathering up matierals to make me a bridge crane just a quick and dirty if it’ll hold 1000lbs I’ll be happy tired of lifting tugging and prying in my shop
