Snapon just feels good to you because you spent a ton of money on it, so subconsciously you have to justify your spending. For 99.9% of the users, the icon can do everything a Snapon can. @@MV-df8jlwhat a ridiculous untrue statement “smarter people know how to spend their money” yeah smart people know which one is better and the price is minimal compared to longevity and efficiency/price ratio. @jaseswinconos4 ай бұрын
@MV-df8jl no the snapon IS better, that's why it feels better. Now whether it's worth it for some average joe to buy it is a completely different conversation... idk why people can't just say that instead of pretending like SnapOn isn't clearly the superior tool, made out of superior steel, without the the use slave/child labour by other proud Americans. Now am I going to be a hypocrite and act as if I don't buy anything from China? No obviously that would be impossible, but I'll give them as little of my money as humanly possible, and give American companies as much as I can reasonably afford. Being I'm just an "average joe" I don't buy snapon, but I do buy williams, proto, mayhew, etc... and if I buy imports it's taiwanese through an American company. Any company making tools or anything else for that matter doing their part to keep American manufacturing and exceptionalism alive deserve to be supported not torn down. People are so short sighted they'll undercut their own neighbors in exchange for some cheap mediocre shit, granted the manufacturers have to do their part and continue making something worth paying a premium for.

The funny thing is, I can recall nearly everyone using the same wire cutter/crimper tool. Klein, SK, I think eventually we’ll see them innovate more. Right now, they’re gaining marketshare. If they can make their tools look like the big guy and perform reasonably well while having significantly easier wanrranty, it’ll get them market share and enable to launch new products in the future that aren’t rip offs.
@JC_1095 Жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with "copying" a successful design. A company is ideally supposed to actually pay attention to the market, see what's in most demand, observe the most effective designs, and incorporate them into their own business model. Snap On shouldn't have a legal monopoly on anything. Companies aren't entitled to a profit, it's part of taking on risk as an entrepreneur. If you want the benefit of getting rich, you have to also accept the possibility of going out of business or losing money to competitors. This incentivizes businesses to innovate and keep competing, or else other companies will. The result is that the customer wins out, which is the way it should be. I don't care about Snap On, Icon, or any other brands. I care about quality, value, and competitive options.

I buy HF tools occasionally. I just rebuild bikes in my garage I’m not making my income on it like professional car mechanics and other people. My problem is my work bench is bloody mess. I do most of my work on the bike when it’s in my Park Tool service stand. What I discovered I need more is to be able to find a tool. I decided I need several cheaper tools than one expensive one I can’t find. A hex key set is a good example. I have about 3 metric and a couple fractional. Lots of hex heads on bikes. I always leave HF with a cheapie pick set, magnetic parts trays and zip ties. I have old wheel bearings sitting in parts trays for months at time until I need the tray, the parts are usually long past relevant and I put it in the spares bin. Those HF pliers would suit my needs just fine.

The Icon line of pliers is pretty excellent for the price. For the price. For tools I use the most I prefer to spend the cash on the brand I want. Generally Snap-On. As my usage goes down I often downgrade the brand. Same goes for most tools for me. People also seem to love the ease of warranting certain brands. That is a great point, but it would seem to me that a brand that generally does NOT require it to be warrantied is better.

Lmao don't tell me you wouldn't match your damn handles to your box or to each other. I got a blue box and would love to get blue comfort grips how about the snappy fan boys who get the electric blue handles? Come on cp look at the bigger picture.

Bc you got KZbin money man. Think about us blue colour workers you think were going 100k in debt for snap on matco tool truck tools? You can afford all those tools lmfao you do tool reviews for God sake so I don't expect you to understand having matching tools like some other guys.

I’ve got snap on, Mac, matco craftsman etc. big brands make a good product but damn expensive. Sometimes you can get by without having to spend Bukhara money. Example are pliers and impacts. I’ve rocked Pittsburg sockets and IR sockets from northern tools for over a decade without ever breaking one. And this is wrenching at a CAT dealer everyday. So be wise with your purchases, regardless is the brand. Also warranting these big brand are a pain if there is no truck around you, icon = easy replacement

Terrible advice, please stop giving any advice Pittsburgh pliers are absolutely garbage as well as a total waste of money.

I agree! I would like to see Icon be a little more original with their designs. Icon could have included a cutter with said pliers, and a more ergonomical grip. If I were in a position in Harbor Freight that designed tools, I would have given them a more distinctive look to them rather than copying Snap-On. I'd give them more of a European or Japanese design, combined with US designs. I don't hate Icon, they have their place. Some of their stuff is pretty good, but it's no where near the quality of Tool Truck brands, US Industrial brands, German and Japanese professional brands. Icon is a mid grade tool product it's comparable to other mid grade brands such as Carlyle, Tekton and Gearwrench.

I never would spend the money on snap on pliers and ended getting a deal on a used set that was like new. They are nice. The red grips have held up for several years now too. Ive got the snap on needle noise like the icons in the video and they look nearly identical.

But that's not the case they didn't steal it ,the patent ran out so others can use it just like the Benchmade axis lock now spiderco to Ozark trail uses it just calls it something else.besides if it's snap on they just bought it from somebody else and put there name on it.
@CPthetooladdict Жыл бұрын
Whoever is telling you that clearly doesn't understand the patent had nothing to do with it.

Telling a lot of the truth CP!!!!! The harbor freight lovers. Don’t wanna hear it I’m with you they’re not bad for the money, but it would be nice to see them make their own color or patterns or designs instead of copping everybody else’s!!

I know people who use Icon tools and I can assure you that they do not compare them to snapon nor do they feel like they have a snap on. Honestly speaking, if we can all afford snapon we would all definitely buy it. But icon tools are ok they are not the best we know this. Not everybody is a professional mechanic nor does everybody have a need for professional tools. Needless to say, the ones comparing these tools to snapon are Harbor freight not the actual buyers/users.

I agree CP, why clone then and try to fool people. I'm not saying Snap On is the end all. I am a fan of made in the USA first, then our current allies as in Germany, and or Japan. I can't complain about the quality with Hazet, Wera, or Ko-Ken and other Japanese tool brands

i know you like Snapon but i understand the snapon jack and harbor freight jack made same factory. snapon might be good been waiting 3 months for a spark plug socket to get warranty. my wonderful snapon jack broke october last year and still waiting for parts to fix so guess what i bought a harbor freight jack where i can work. it doesn't matter how good if its broke and cant get fixed its worthless

Are the icon handles as good as the Snap-on? No. Are they damn close? Yes. They are a bit softer and dont clean up as well, but are very tough and feel great.

Project farm showed snap on dikes Rivet Bent cutting a deck screw and even channelocks could. I love snap on pliers but I usually prefer German made pliers whenever I can find the style I am looking for. That being said snappy makes so many pliers I still have more than any other brand. I am truly “ashamed “

Man, don't know where to begin... Well, I also don't inherently hate or think that stuff from HF is total garbage; they occasionally have some good merchandise at a fair price, but there are WAY more ethical companies (even the large ones) to purchase from. I hate to admit, I might even take the plunge and go for the 3-ton Daytona rapid pump, maybe the low profile one, though it's more pricey. And if I do, it'll be the only HF item that I own. It's not because I am a tool snob per se, but I do like quality manufacturing and ethical business policies from companies that hopefully treat their employees well. I believe in freedom of choice, so if HF fits the bill for some people in terms of value and are also on a budget, so be it, nothing wrong with that. Right now, money is very tight for me, but I need a bunch of shallow and deep sockets and I'll probably go with Tekton. I think they offer good value, a solid warranty and seem like a genuinely ethical company. Anyway, that's just my 2-cent rant of the day lol. But one more thing, at the expense of sounding slightly corny... God bless the USA 🟥⬜ 🟦and God bless CP, the Tool Addict!👍

Nice love it. I believe but could be wrong but icon is the snap on for the poor man and they may be the cheap snap on so they can still get money from the not so fortunate. I love harbor fright. I do agree they should go with a different color and make look a little different but 😅 I'm a poor man 😂😂
