I just bought a used HF backhoe, and your video's was a big help in knowing what I was buying. That said. I have one cylinder that doesn't stay in place, and another that has no power and whistles. I am new to hydraulics, so before I start throwing money at this, I thought I would see what you suggest I look at first.
@goneredcar1

If you would like to confirm if it's a ram or the controller switch the Rams with the one that works. That's because if a ram is leaking internally there will be no indication of leaking oil. Remember this is a bypass hydraulic circuit so oil is always flowing. When you determine the problem check with a local hydraulic hose and cylinder shop for rebuilding. That may run from $75 to $100 for rebuilding.
@edlisten
@edlisten 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your help. I was able to determine that one cylinder is the ram, and the other is one of the valves. The one that is on the valve I can here a whistle sound coming from the valves when I there is a load. I plan to change the o-rings on the hose, but is there something that I might also need to check on the controller switch itself.

When you had that pump on could/ did you run it on full Throttle. And I see that they don’t make the pump that you put on anymore but they make a new and improved version. And is this a different pump than in your other video about the speed upgrade because this one says that you had a 20% increase and your other video said a 35% increase. And also, did you have any problems with the control valve after you did the new pump? Did it hold up in long term use? I am wanting to put a faster pump on my trencher but don’t want parts to break. I’ve also herd that it will take a very long time with COVID to get replacement parts and don’t want it to break in a job and be don’t for along time.

I only had this pump on for a short time but I ran it at about 3000 RPMs. I then replaced the engine with a a diesel and a larger volume pump. I have had no problems with this setup and just reached 400 hrs. This is not a back hoe it’s a light duty trencher or as I have said in the past hydraulic shovel.

Hi, great stuff! My hydraulic pump was defective on a new machine with less than 10 minutes of moving bucket around in the air. I found a Salami dealer in Michigan but he didn't have the pump number you listed. He gave me a similar pump. While looking at these pumps I noticed all are above 3200 psi......you said your running at 2400 psi. I was told that the machine has a relief valve that will not allow psi above 2400psi. Is this a true statement or did you do something different?
@goneredcar1
@goneredcar1 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry to here about your pump failure. I never changed the pressure on the relief valve, the pumps I selected we’re higher pump volumes not pressures. Before you place a new pump on your trencher I would drain the oil and check for junk in the oil tank, and lines. With a failure like that the junk is everywhere so clean and inspect thoroughly.

hello again my friend, i have a couple of questions maybe you can help me with. first whats the number to the company you bought the hydraulic pump ? i am still using the pull 9hp engine it came with.And the other question is the bucket keeps dropping by it self.I added more fluid because i thought that may help but it didn't.The machine has no leaks what so ever and i dont know whats wrong.Maybe this happened to you.I have less then 20 hours on the machine.It digs strong but when i am ready to pick bucket up it keeps dropping and losses alot of power were i cant even pick up dirt to empty out.i did notice if i curl the bucket first then i can raise boom but it takes literally more than half a minute which makes working very frustrating.Any information is greatly appreciated, Thank you very much; Jack

+hunterjh13 from what you describe it sounds like the valve body may have a problem. Sometimes crud from the tank gets stuck in the spool valves, this occurs from the manufacturing and failed cleaning of it. I have had several folks reported this problem. Many reported junk found in the valve body, one a broken return spring, and damaged Orings. Your second question on the pump as I said in the text portion on this post I purchased local. The pump number in the text is universal and a google of it will locate several locations it can be found. From what I have heard there was A place located in lower Michigan that had it for a good price (no other information on name)

@goneredcar1
@goneredcar1 9 жыл бұрын
This can be narrowed down quickly by removing the return line and placing the end into a clean bucket. Start the machine and see if you have a fast stream of return of oil going into it, if the stream is of low volume it's the pump. If the volume is good it's the valve body's bypass feature stuck open. I have heard that this may occur if debris gets into this area. The bypass section is on the right side of the valve body follow the return hose back to the valve body. If you think it's the pump and need a pump to replace It I have sum to try, contact me if you need more help.

goneredcar1 Thanks for your response. I have checked just what you have said and at an idle speed I can put my thumb over the return line and stop the flow. Keep up the excellent videos. Any info will help.
@goneredcar1
@goneredcar1 9 жыл бұрын
That would be a bad pump, if you find it difficult to locate a pump I do have some. If you ran the pump with no, or low oil it can damage the pump very quickly. If you look into the pump you will find gauging that lead to pressure loss. Make sure you were using the right oil also before installing a new pump. The oil will need to be changed and system flushed of all metal and debris and the filter changed or you may damage the new pump.

goneredcar1 Again, Thanks for the response and all the great video's. I have located a new pump from Grey Hound, the manufacturer of the back hoe but I have a few more questions for you. 1) How big of a pump do you think I can run with using the factory 9hp engine? 2) You say you have a few pump laying around, so I was wondering how much you were looking to sell them for if your wanted to sell? I was watching the video where you changed out the hydraulic oil filter and housing. Was there a must for that because of your upgrades or because it is hard to locate the filter?

No other filter, but it maybe a stuck control valve. The next thing to check do you have the right hyd oil (32) this is very important. Next because of your low hours are all the hoses right and are the tight. If you are getting air in the system this can cause control failure. Just to let you no the tech support on the trencher is a little lacking on the running of the machine. If you get a little frustrated find a local hydraulic pump and hose shop they maybe more help then HF.

Hi Gonerdcar1, Thank you for your video. It is very helpful . I am confuse on your information with the Salami Pompa mod# 614470242. Is this pump used for the 35% or 20% speed increase? Base on your updated info, we should use 20% speed increase because of the heating problem. Can you let me know which pump model I needed to buy for this 20% speed increase? Also, do you have any idea on the HF trencher loader lift capacity? Thank you
@goneredcar1
@goneredcar1 9 жыл бұрын
Toan Than it's based on the pump volume you choose and the speed in which you run it. What I did is change the engine from 9 hp to 13 hp to gain the use of electric start. With the added hp I reduced the engine speed and increased the pump volume. I had changed the pump several times because the hydraulic shop in my local area supplied me with several pumps to play with. Watch all the videos and you will see you can only get to a point and you are bottle necked by the small 1/4" hoses. Then you start to heat the oil caused by friction by the restrictions of the small hoses. The bottom line is keep the pump volume between 20 to 35 % increase over stock. Sometimes more is not better. When I went to a Diesel engine I slowly started to switch over to 5/16" lines that helped a little. I now have the trencher working just the way I like it and have put many hours on the clock. I was very lucky to fine this local shop that assisted me with there expertise and resources.
