I feel like the console wars have warped reality for too long, because the fact that we're supposed to be celebrating the Nintendo Switch projected to be the first console to overtake the PS2 (guys that came out in 1999 and the PS3 dropped in 2006) is bonkers. Consoles fundamentally have never taken off and I think it's their own fault. They've pushed stuff like generations and exclusives as "features" when consumers don't really want that. People don't even like how many different subscription services they need to watch all the originals nowadays? Why would needing to own specific hardware to have the option of paying additional money for X game ever appeal to them? Why would not having save data transfer over between consoles (cloud saves)? Why would needing to pay a separate subscription in addition to buying a game, and the hardware, and paying for wifi just to play multiplayer on said game? Consoles created more impenetrable walled gardens than Apple (in previous gens even between platforms in their own ecosystem) and banked heavily on tribalism to sell units. As the dust settles the reality is kicking in that most people aren't really interested in this market. Most gamers are on mobile where it's convenient and even PC is continuing to grow. Yet console has completely stagnated. For God's sake the best selling console is at 155m from nearly two decades ago! The other issue is this has led console video game makers to seek growth in other ways. They can't increase the number of customers so they've tried to increase the amount each customer is spending. And that's largely how platforms and publishers are reporting record revenue despite their overall console user bases not having really changed. People cry bloody murder at Xbox expanding to PC, Cloud, Mobile, and even other consoles, but that is such a good thing for the health of the business overall. It means they can actually grow their customers (which they have) and it gives far far less excuse for them to push Microtransactions. Not to say that they won't try. Overall still expansion is really good for the longevity of gaming. Cost of development and hardware components are skyrocketing and that cost is going to keep being put on gamers so long as console gaming continues to rely on the same small market base (though again businesses will try to make as much money however possible). Look at what Sony has been doing and Microsoft. To some extent that's always going to continue (because business and inflation), but the level at which it is now shows some fundamental problems in the industry. Things aren't sustainable as is. Really honestly think about it, why would someone who isn't already a gamer buy a console? Historically you've lost access to your entire library on the next model. It's a complete toss-up what even ends up being available on the platform (certain game franchises have had exclusives or timed exclusives for every console). For paid online games you incurr additional costs just for playing it as intended and now no game subscription service (Game Pass was the last bastion) except third parties let you pay JUST for the subscription service access to the Library of games. The only free cloud saves are on Xbox. Marketing is also doing a disservice trying to get consoles in the hands of non-current console gamers. The Xbox One had the right idea in marketing itself as an entertainment device, it just utterly failed at marketing itself as really either (an entertainment or gaming device) because modern consoles and gaming are competiting for the entertainment of consumers. Time spent on the Apple TV is ultimately time you could have spent on your Xbox. Streaming and playing games. But this isn't really known. Hardly at all. A $300 Xbox can do everything a 4k Apple TV can and play video games and doesn't cost "that" much more. Game journalists and fanboys really need to move past the console wars, and start asking themselves why consoles as a whole have failed to launch. Because in theory they should be far more popular. They aren't that expensive and can do a lot in addition to playing games.

Because of x86 we don't need to upgrade to PS5/XSX to play modern games. Console sales mean less than before just like many pc gamers play on old pc's. PS software sales is still considerably higher than steam.

Difference being Steam basically prints money mostly doing nothing where as PS needs to build a new console every once in a while and make exclusives or they will go out of business.

@@sumomaster5585 yeah but steam is in the hardware race now also, and Sony prints money too on online subscriptions and thirdparty sales. They don't need the hardware sales we are used too as long as people still spend money on the older consoles.

@@sumomaster5585 how is it gone Lmao? Console is still bigger but it's 3 platforms whereas pc is only one and it's mostly steam. And it's not cheaper really. Hardware is more expensive on pc, powerconsumption is higher and all games and subscriptions can't be shared like on console. Also pc online play is garbage and ruined by hackers and MnK players.

I understand Google search is superior. However, they are going to have to find another way to make that money and/or just use Google as the default search engine without royalties. The real issue is that Google has been enforcing its monopoly for years and nobody did anything about it. When its not a monopoly its just business but when you have huge monopoly and are still doing it, of course it's a problem.

Once GTA6 drops they'll sell like hotcakes again. Xbox One and PS4 had it easy with an upgraded version of GTA5 in 2014. It then was high in the sales charts for years. Current consoles haven't had a big game like that to carry sales.

Are we still in the narrative on seeling hardware as a goal to the companies, specially xbox that expand their market through PC launches, every pc copy that they sale is a reason to not be obliged to buy a console to play, in fact the media should focus on software sales, Series X/S are just a channel to deliver their content. To add to this most games (and nearly all the most popular and lucrative) are still cross gen. EA just gave Jedi Survivor a cross gen release. Xbox is still happily making money off of Xbox One users AND they've confirmed every new console is sold at a slight loss. Why would it be a good thing that they're moving hardware they sell at a loss if all that moved hardware is doing for the most part is going to old users who just upgraded and are... for the most part spending the same amount of money. There's a reason why GTA VI is expected to move new consoles, but beyond that there's a reason why Sony and Xbox care because these users who probably own a PS4 or Xbox One and just upgraded, will actually spend significantly more money on their platform due to GTA Microtransactions.

The problem i have woth PC is you need decently powered hardware to play games in a way that's enjoyable. I tried to play Helldivers on my laptop, and it didn't run well. I have to pay $$$ to get a decent rig. We don't have to worry about that on console.

Insold Series X and all accessories... Went back to pc gaming. One simple reason... Performance. Consoles are already so outdated. I really hope the next consoles really leapfrog pc performace in such a way that it takes more than 4 years for the pc to catch up.

Xbox announced Series’s console as PC this generation. Microsoft Surface Xbox PC, NPU Arm for next generation, would most definitely be a “generational leap”… for $200 though, but of a stretch. $599 more realistic. Happy Friday to the other person watching, BS’s Mom 😂❤
