Hey, Ponte. I really like your work and this certainly is nice and sleek (especially for a 20 minute design), but I can't help to be a nit-picky bastard and throw some minor criticism your way. Telescopic sights usually have 3 adjustment controls. Diopter, elevation, windage. 4 if the scope has several magnifications options. Your scope needs more knobs and dials. Also In real life I would not use your scope because the eyepiece is too small and would cause unnecessary strain on my eyes. (Bigger is better!) I know this is about modelling techniques, but you're a big boy and you can take some minor criticisms. 😆

This makes you a concept designer right?

I like your tutorials but have to do them about ten times to replicate what you're doing in seconds! When I create the first Ngon its centered on the Y plane and only extrude one direction for this tutorial, can't get them in front of object for some reason. I try to replicate all your settings...

You have it textured and stuff in the thumbnail, was hoping you would have shown your process on that, wasn't sure if you were using uv or procedural materials or what. thanks anyway.

Genuinely asking, is it worth it being specialized in hard surface nowadays? Seems hard as fuck getting in the industry these days.
@RyoMassaki Жыл бұрын
There is only hard surface and nature when it comes to modeling. So, if you specialize in hard surface, that means everything that is man made and non-natural. General industrial design, vehicle design, architecture are all specializations inside of hard surface. Video games/realtime and VFX/general media/advertising are all different specializations. So if you pick up hard surface there are multiple ways you can go and you'll be busy for a while. Once you got good or mastered hard surface, I would argue it's very easy to branch out and become more of an generalist. I started as generalist (which is not ideal, quite stupid actually) because I had no plan. After making it hard for myself for many years and getting nowhere, I spent some years learning hard surface modelling and a little concept design, but I also branched out slowly to environmental design. Now I am picking up VFX (slowly). I would say it is much easier to start with one main discipline, go deep with it and either stay or go wide. Either way you'll want a solid base first which is important. You can "specialize" in hard surface but also be more of an generalist by learning the whole asset pipeline from start to finish. Concept, modelling, UV/texturing/shading, lighting and rendering. This will open up more doors and possibilities. The best motivator is passion. If you don't love what you are doing you'll be at a disadvantage - as cliche as it sounds, do follow your passion because it will be easier, more productive and more fun.
