Over the years, I've done a lot of hard surface modeling in ZBrush and found myself learning many different techniques and workflows. I thought it might be useful to someone out there if I recorded it all on video and talked through the process with you. If you're interested in learning more about that, do head over to the link above!
The tutorial package will include:
* 70+ Videos with 9+ hours of ZBrush Hard Surface Techniques
* Audio commentary in English to accompany the Videos
* No time-lapse video (All modeled in real time)
* Orthographic screenshots of individual parts to assist with modeling along with the tutorial.

Worth every cent! I have barely begun the course but just looking at the detail in which you explain practically every step is amazing. I’ve watched close to every paid course on the internet and this is the best. A lot of free plugins were recommended and should be downloaded before the course to get the most out of it. The custom UI demonstrated was certainly overwhelming but it’s neatly organised and so are the brushes. Are there any custom hardsurface brushes you would recommend? I got the Orb and some of the MAH brushes after seeing your brush menu.

Thanks Jason! Glad you are enjoying the tutorial so far. The MAH and Orb brushes are really fun to play with. Some that I would recommend are the Cki Vang 3D alphas and 3D decals. He has free versions of them to try out. Really great for detailing concept work. Here is the link for those: vangcki.gumroad.com/ Another one I use a lot for low poly is the Fill Quad ZBrush IMM Brush. It is a paid brush but is been really useful. www.artstation.com/marketplace/p/KXlO/fill-quad-zbrush-imm-brush

@Henry Chervenka Hi. It looks awesome, but I have 1 question before buying it - can't really understand is hardsurf sculpt in ZBrush made without any blueorints at all? I mean if I want to make a detail or weapons with so close accuracy like in other 3D apps like Max, Blender or Fusion where I see that blueprints, maybe some measures in numbers - so it's impossible in ZBrush? in ZBrush you have to sculpt just from references as you see, so to say, approximately? Thank
@henrychervenka2166
@henrychervenka2166 2 жыл бұрын
Hello @OM&TheVASYA. There are ways you can import blueprints images into ZBrush to use and there is a way you can use measurements inside ZBrush. However, I did not cover those techniques in this tutorial. I did provide orthographic screen shots of each part we will be modeling. This tutorial was more about learning the different ZBrush techniques and workflows that I use for hardsurface which is more loose and free. (The way I prefer to model). Max and blender would be a better fit when trying to get more accurate with measurements. And CAD apps are the way to when talking about precision modeling.

Hey, thanks for creating the tutorial. I just got it yesterday and am (slowly) working my way through it. I was just wondering if you were using a pen & tablet or mouse while doing this model? I don't know if its just my lack of experience with the pen and tablet as an input device but I'm finding it hard, especially in the zModeler brush, to get the fine movements down and feels like i would be more efficient using the mouse instead. If its just a case of "git gud" with the pen then I will carry on but thought I would ask the professionals here. Thanks.
@henrychervenka2166
@henrychervenka2166 Жыл бұрын
Hey Michael, Thanks for purchasing the tutorial. I think it just comes down to personal preference. I know some people who only use a pen and tablet, and others who prefer the mouse. For me, I use the mouse with ZModeler and a pen with all of the other brushes. I did give the pen and tablet a try at one point. However, I find I have more control with a mouse when using the ZModeler brush.

Just purchased it! A few questions: 1. Is the retopo workflow here sufficient if I want to make assets for games? 2. What do you think are the advantages of doing hard-surface in Zbrush vs Maya (especially for game assets)?
@henrychervenka2166
@henrychervenka2166 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Minh... 1) This is highly dependent on the game/engine/studio/client to be honest so it's a somewhat tricky question. The topology workflow shown is very much applicable for both film or games, you'd just either need to go lower/higher based on the requirement of your game/engine/studio/client. I would say this is the same for Maya or Blender workflows too, all softwares can go in various directions and it's up to the user to control that aspect. My tutorial was not specifically made for a game engine in mind and I was modeling using Dynamic Subdivision in ZBrush which ultimately creates higher subdivision appearances for the model, but the base subdivision is low enough for some games (it's just not an asset that would work for that purpose) 2) I think the advantages of doing hard surface in ZBrush (for games) is to do quick iterations to get it into the game engine really fast to see if it holds its shape and any quick textures you put on it. Another advantage of doing hard surface in ZBrush for games is idea exploration and concepting, which happens a lot faster in ZBrush than other modeling packages. Of course, this is my own personal opinion.

Also you can press the Tab key to toggle the UI on or off. I will never ever understand why creators of quality tutorials are dead set on selling their hardwork for relatively nothing. 10 dollars?!? Why? Are artists so used to being devalued by the industry that they think their hard work is worth so little? Here's an idea, make a great fucking tutorial and sell it for $30 bucks. Artists are continually underselling and undervaluing themselves and hurting the entire industry as a result. It becomes a race to the bottom where the main value proposition is considered to be dirt cheap pricing. Stop it! Is Ferarri trying to price their sportcars to compete with Ford? NO! Create Ferrari quality content and charge a premium.

Here's the thing @Artistry, I can assure you when it comes to clients, studios, and companies I do not devalue my services in any way. I ask for higher than the average in those circumstances. HOWEVER, when it comes to selling my products to like minded artists whom many do not have the same funds as the clients, studios, and companies... I will always go way lower in price or even free to share my knowledge or provide assets to help them out. You absolutely can not ignore the target audience you are selling to when determining your price point. While I agree what is happening in the industry is horrible and artists deserve way more compensation for their long hours and hard work, this is not one of those cases. I did not set my price point to undercut any other artist. The price was set with the mindset of allowing more artists the opportunity to purchase the tutorial if they are interested in doing so.
