The absolute biggest banger of a halftime show, and even if it was all theater, I loved it.

Anderson. paak said it was recorded live during rehearsals then all live playback during performance

I see you caught that nice rhythmic displacement as well! Bar of 9/8, bar of 8/8, bar of 7/8, bar of 8/8. Equals a nice 4 bars of 4/4. When this happened I lost my shit lmao.

so sick!!!! i wonder if that's part of their regular show. so hip they were cool with that and got the choreography right with it too.

I'll go on record to say it's all pre recorded, and very clever camera management. Before your videos I'd never have looked for microphones. God bless you, you've opened my eyes

A snare player that marched drumcore got to perform for Justin Timberlake at the super bowl and he said in his KZbin video about it that they recorded the playing live and during the show they just pretend to be playing it to avoid any fuck ups live on TV

that flea from peppers on purpose didnt plug his cable because only vocals are live and the bands are pre recorded.

I’m glad you’re so curious as me about finding out how they did it, I’m leaning towards them pre recording the band. Thankfully they usually release a behind the scenes thing on this

The drummer that recorded it post a photo on his Instagram that said “What you saw vs what you heard” and they definitely recorded it in a studio.

They have to back track everything because of the size of the arena it'd be a latency nightmare with that kind of set up so yes everything is pre-performed but still impressive
@rhysgraham17163 жыл бұрын
9:50 that melody is, for some reason, a little bit of Tears For Fears' "Head Over Heels". Guess the MD snuck it in there cause it fits right nice over that chord progression. Unless one of these artists has sampled that at some point it's pretty incongruous in a Hip Hop/RnB Superbowl half time show though looooool

Definitely live recorded. I remember when they did Chilli peppers they recorded a live version and mimed after Bruno mars. But Bruno mars band played live? So they seem to have the ability to mic it all live, guess the risk of mistakes and the margin for error with so many moving parts is so small it’s probably safer to have playback just in case. Musicians rip though.
@Tbass173 жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s pretty much it - there’s too many things that could go wrong with doing it live that it is largely a pre record. What a half time show though
@bi0nikunik0rn3 жыл бұрын
Flea said something after the whole controversy of their half time show. I believe it’s all prerecorded and they just mime it for the show. NFL does this because god-forbid there’s a huge mistake or a cable/microphone goes bad on live tv with millions of people watching
@DuffyLONER643 жыл бұрын
They pre-record all the instruments live beforehand, since they don't have the time to soundcheck everything.

Rehearsed a lot, pre-recorded and supplemented by other tracks. But so well done. All of the other "wireless" is for cues and IEMs for timing.

Sounds like the Justin Timberlake Half time show, same musical director (the big bass player). Love to watch it played live, is insane when they use live music even if it is pre recorded.

The super Bowl has always been playback pre recorded things for years. I don’t believe there are any live instruments during the performance of any of the Super Bowl halftime shows of recent years.
@PepeSilvia223 жыл бұрын
I think everything is a live pre recorded performance including vocals...or at least oarts of them. At 6:50 fiddy isnt holding the mic up to his mouth but can clearly hear his vocals come in. 🤷♂️

There's a few points with Eminem where that happens to. He's doing that thing where the live vox are mixed into a backing track.

I was in a band that played the national anthem at Bronco's stadium in Denver. From behind the kit, the sound was a nightmare. There was so much slapback it came in waves. Another time I was at an MLS match and a band played after for some celebration. We walked out to the parking lot and the music, especially the drums, was incredibly out of time with the vocals. I have no idea how anyone ever plays a venue that size.
