Lamar Davis is one of the few JKD instructors who places an emphasis on the structure of all 3 periods (e.g., Seattle, Oakland, L.A. Chinatown) of Bruce Lee's fighting method. His ability to understand and demonstrate the finer points (e.g., Lop Sao grip) of the tools of JKD is extremely impressive.

@pjtheory3 жыл бұрын
@@therealawakener7 Ah, no. Davis was certified as a JKD instructor from not one, not two, but THREE (e.g., Leo Fong, Steve Golden, and Jerry Poteet) of Bruce Lee's original JKD students. Fong convinced Bruce to add Boxing to his fighting method and both Golden/Poteet trained at Lee's L.A./Chinatown school. Speaking of the L.A./Chinatown school, there was a famous group color photograph taken at that school which included Bruce Lee, Dan Lee, Bob Bremer, and, yes, Steve Golden and Jerry Poteet.

The 2 positive things I took away from this video was not any of the techniques, but instead I took away 2 rules or principles to follow in martial arts. One rule is to bring together several movements into one motion, and the 2nd principle is to not over commit to a particular move so you can easily transition to another move. In which I know of these rules, but this better confirms it while better instilling it in my mind.

The Wing Chun concept is indeed, a great approach to getting a "Feel" for your attacker/opponents strikes; But there's NO doubt, unless a person is Extremely proficient in WC, you're just gonna' get yourself in a bunch of trouble in a "Street" situation. Nobody seems willing to MENTION that. Although WC is a very good Foundation, I find, that if you possess good Boxing skills, inclu- ing, "Bobbing, Weaving, Ducking---and good Lateral" movement, You have an advantage right from the start. So, while you're trying to improve your Wing Chun skills, spend a good amount of time simply punching from various angles; and Teach your legs, and your Waist area to function in Consort with One another for Optimum footwork, and Evasive maneuvers.

Lop Sao, to me thumbless is great too! But if you want to transition into Jiu Jitsu during fight mode and have little more fun than, just striking back and forth like a piñata, then instead do a Thumbful-lop-sao. Personally, I think thee Lop Sao is actually Thumbless so I can let him go and toy with him like a Mexican Piñata, and just practice controlling them while remaining laid back and enjoy the process.

I have to assume you have not because, you would know how hard it is to 'catch' a hand/arm - plus your fine motor skills of your hands and fingers are great impacted when you introduce stress and adrenaline. I watched Bruce's sparring video recently and I do not recall him using trapping...I believe it was all straight blast lead hand and lead leg followed up with counter shots - no to very, very minimal trapping. I can appreciate your art but, I don't believe it's practice in a real fight.*

that's probably because Bruce Lee study five different martial arts dude and practice five different martial arts to develop his own so he had a quite developed background in fighting and on top of that he had experience before sorry the whole point of this video is to get you used to what you have to do to get your brain to do it by ultra instinct so when starring happens or you do have to fight you do it without thinking.

That's the problem herein for dear old Sifu Davies and its this, it can NEVER be ONE move. You can do the 2 passive motions in this WC (not JKD) move simultaneously but, the strike is actually always a secondary beat, ie, a secondary manoeuvre. This is not even 'Lin Sil Di Dar'. This technique is flawed because the lead hand defends and doesn't riposte. Also any good striker wouldn't leave their arm out long enough for this to happen, punching is crisp and fast, and in JKD one should be shortening the arc of the return so the opponent would never mechanically be able to inside Lop Sao the strikers arm as it would be rapidly moving away fron the Wu Sau hand. So again this supposed JKD technique is about as useful today to practice for a JKD student as a flying side kick is to a karateka for dismounting a Samurai on horseback outside a Sainsbury's. This is clearly, "ART FOR ARTS SAKE, MONEY FOR GOD'S SAKE"

I've tried learning this and never been able to pull this stuff off against a resisting opponent that's moving. More "phone booth" Kung Fu. If you can watch them actually spar, it all rapidly breaks down into bad kickboxing. Look at where the person on the left has his right hand the entire time. That grab had better totally close off that line of attack, otherwise you are getting a straight right to the face, that will actually block the backfist. I like the boxer (or was it Nathan Bedford Forest) that said "Get there the firstist with the mostist", that seems to be better advice.

Of course the goal is to end the fight ASAP. Do you train for sport or no rules end it the most efficient way? I guess it's a stupid question because you are not in shape for sport. No disrespect meant. How important do you think it is to be fit as a martial artist? I think it's vital. If you are not in aerobic shape, everything else suffers; your reflexes, and especially ability to last for more than a few strikes. Bruce Lee's main thing was to do what's best for you. You are far from a Bruce Lee type of fighter so analyzing his training may not be great for you. Just my thoughts.
@SteveMe216854 жыл бұрын
Ok. But the best boxing trainers in the world aren’t in shape. Mike Tyson’s trainer in the beginning was old and fat. Should he not train someone else because he’s not in shape? That doesn’t make any sense to me
@basedpatriot49822 жыл бұрын
Mike Tyson‘s trainer would never claim he could get in the ring and box somebody. Fat old men like these JKD sifus are claiming that they are able to currently do everything that they are preparing the students for. Not that his endurance would matter because his ass would be knocked out within 10 seconds in a real fight because he tried to do his little chicken wing chung lop bong noodle finger poke death grab and get his ass handed to him.
