Bruce Lee's method of how to stop an opponent from being able to hit you by using hand immobilization techniques to trap the hands or feet so they cannot retaliate.

I think it’s called “pak-sao” because in southern China and Hong Kong which is where wing Chun started. In these places there was Cantonese, the term “Pak” mean slap or just hit. “Sao” means hand. So if you put it together it’s “slap hand” or “hit hand”

The pak sao fung sao thing makes sense tho, I mean, it's literally in the name, it's Cantonese. Pak means slap, Fung means to seal, and that is indeed sealing the limb.

In real fight, how u can trap the opponent if this punch as fast of manny pacquiaos speed?
@SifuNate
@SifuNate 4 жыл бұрын
Acux11 Joelskie that really depends on your ability, distance and the timing. It’s possible to do it if you have the ability but if the opportunity is not available move on to something else that will work. Don’t get caught up in only trying to trap if there are other openings to take advantage of.

It does not matter how fast they are Trapping aka hia is a by product of hitting!!!! It comes trying to hit and your opponent defends or they attack N u defend it either way theres energy in the action now with training u can learn to recognize those energies and how to manipulate it

At 5:42 min. the trapping is exactly the same techniques, which Bruce used in his legacy of short videos he left us. I tried to beginnvery slowly training these techniques you showed in this video and I‘m sry as an amateur who is very slow to ask these following questions. Is it really appilicable in a fight where the opponent is moving steadily and very fast let‘s say with the footwork of Bruce combined with the fist speed of Mohammed Ali? I‘m asking this question especially to someone like you who’s movements do it already automatically. Can you be honest with your answer, as I tried to use these trapping techniques against very fast opponents who‘re always in motion and fire back. Is there a wisdom behind these movements and do they really get faster than those direct and effective punches of a boxer for example? I feel training the direct way to hurt the opponent before he does with less motion involved is way more efficient and is worth training. If I‘m wrong please explain a bit of the wisdom behind these movements. Bruce did these moves too, but modified them later on. It must have to do with the strength and speed he gained later on. I hope sincerely that you‘re being honest with your answer. No disrespect to you, as these movements if the body is trained well enough could cripple an opponent and I know that. I wouldn‘t foght against you as I can see that you‘re strong but it looks too fancy to be applicable in a real fight. Thank you very much for this content, stay healthy and wish you the best!

*fight Edit: I think I understand that it has to do something with style points. You as a Sifu when teaching must have this knowledge. I find it also very brave to show all these techniques on KZbin. That means to me you must know way more than all the content you post. As Bruce also showed his techniques but was still able to beat or neutralize a twice as big (in weight or height) opponent with not too much effort. It took him less than 5 seconds and even Heavyweight boxers knew they had no chance against him. I wonder if this changes when people are observing the fight, as he only fought them in closed settings (of course to not hirt their reputation). Much respect on Sifus like you. Hope to see some of JKD techniques in the UFC or MMA, as for now the fights don‘t really look that spectacular or effective than JKD looks. Big respect on people who‘re capable to beat the enemy without really hurting them but if needed of course they can.

Like Dan said, you have to understand Wing Chun, not just say this isn't Wing Chun... If you don't understand Wing Chun you won't understand what Bruce did, what he trained and how he trained -- which IS Wing Chun training and how to train. If you don't understand Wing Chun you will think what you do is just different, and sometimes it might be JKD and other times you'll just be doing it wrong and not know why. Bruce trained Wing Chun.... Did you?

So the first drill this guy does comes from Kali. Student fed a horizontal fist and the “Instructor” fed a vertical fist. His trapping looks a little stiff/hard. I would guide anyone to Francis Fong for Wing Chun and the traditional JKD trapping, as his is widely considered the “best in the family” in terms of the trapping. High level. This man has material, but it is not at the level he thinks it is. This guy is a traditionalist posing as a JKD man. When he makes his attachment, notice the stiffness in his hand, which is tension, internal resistance to speed, and wasted energy. Very stiff. Not a fan. Best of luck, keep train g.

Sorry fellas, but this "trapping" style shown, is "posturing." It's made to be an exhibition, and true trapping, and martial arts is NOT AN EXHIBITION! Associating Bruce Lee with this posturing form, is not honorable, and I'd appreciate you "rethinking" this approach, to reflect the trueness of Martial Arts. Nice "idea", but not applicable in fact. With respect always... N
