Plus, I also find that these JKD style trapping techniques work very well in Grappling matches (when you’re trying to shoot inside for an underhook or takedown) because it helps open up some lane ways to attack and for Boxing, where you’re not allowed to throw a back fist, but you can trap an arm or both arms to clear the road for a strike or two to your opponents face or body. Side note - Thank you for those technical breakdowns. It definitely helps me see and improve my technique by learning some details, small or large, that I either didn’t know or had forgotten. Both of you guys are excellent teachers/instructors/Sifu’s. Please keep it up!

This help put the trapping technique into more of a real life situation perspective… Like it’s obvious no one is going to stand there and let you hit them if pulled off correctly but at the same time… It’s important to train ourselves on how to redirect the energy if things don’t go the way we planned it especially in self defense… I could be wrong about all of this so anyone feel free to correct me… But that’s what I got out of this video… I love trapping techniques they’re fun to train

Dan, could JKD trapping be effective/practical in a real life situation (street fight, I mean)?
@ricksterdrummer21705 жыл бұрын
Henri Ducard Depends on who you’re fighting. If it’s someone who has little fighting experience, they will move back as you trap, so here it could work. If it’s someone with experience they will close the distance as you try to trap and move into a clinch or try for a takedown. It all depends. I know I’m not Dan, but I do have fighting experience. haha

K I love the videos. I would like to see the heal of the foot to the groin kick with defense turned into offense simultaneously. You must turn the the back foot to a perpendicular towards their body when they punch you just lean back and hit their groin with the heel kick. I know you understand this move. I love your videos. This is a Bruce Lee move straight from his book. I am self taught straight from his book.

Hey Dan please make a video where you tell us types of businesses that can make people rich . Please include businesses that make you a lot of money
To someone new to JKD or martial arts maybe you should have explained why you are starting out in the position you were in also. I avoided learning trapping because I thought to myself when would I be in that position.
@mokyan76 жыл бұрын
Kai Weber if a straight punch comes at you, just shoot your arm straight forward or even punch. When your arm touches the attacker, there is the bridge/contact. Actually that is a good thing to train as the “next step” after learning the drill where you start connected (the first step).

The problem with this is Bruce took trapping and chi Sao out of the curriculum by 1970/71. He himself stopped doing this. A lot of things are taught as “JKD” from the 60’s that Bruce stopped doing and stopped teaching because he found better more effective methods. This stuff is outdated material. It’s fine if you want to learnt the history and where it came from, but it is not the most up to date stuff.
