Dude your videos are a lifesaver. Also you sold me on the SSL which is on sale for like $20 right now straight from Waves.

Where I finely boost or cut varies on the type of snare being used. However boosting the high end always seems to be the case for me, good advice!

Cool brother Love the boost frecuency at 3k and the low cut at 150 Hz Keep it up

sounding a lot better! everyone has to adjust to the snare they're using, but the cuts and boosts are in similar spots.

Great tutorial, I love a proper snare sound in any genre and have trouble recreating that. This really helps! Thanks.

I tend to scoop the Mids a bit, Boost the lows a little, and boost the highs a fair bit. Add some compression and some reverb, and it sounds monstrous!

Don't forget he's using his gate/compressor and putting it AFTER his EQ along w/ his filters
@DetNosnip4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm curious about the comp/gate settings. I tried recreating it on mine and it sounded like garbage...too synthetic sounding (seemed to work for his snare for some reason).
@jahwah6673 жыл бұрын
Why does he put the compressor after the EQ? Wouldn’t the compressor, to an extent, undo the eq cuts/boosts?
@Jalliams3 жыл бұрын
@@DetNosnip ~ fiddle around with the gate settings (if using SSL channel, make sure you click gate, otherwise it’s an expander and much more gentle/ less drastic). Using a gate is key to cleaning up the signal from bleed. I noticed Jordan has the ‘expand’ knob at 20 (I have a bad habit of always thinking it should be 40) with a very low threshold (-5). If you have a lot of bleed, try high passing as Jordan did to 150hz, and then opening up the threshold, I.e. +10-15, with a medium-ish release & click fast attack button. Happy gating!

hi sir, could you please demonstrate how you process your room mics. and also incase i dont have a room mic how can you achieve the same room sound with room verb thanks
@JoshuaTheKvlt8 жыл бұрын
You could try finding a room reverb that you like (plugin, impulse, whatever), and bus each of your individual drum tracks to that reverb track. Blend the volumes to taste, then process how you like
@breakinggroundstudios74796 жыл бұрын
also lowpass the signal (6dB/oct.) until it sounds far away, and delay it carefully (trying not to add phase issues) to add more "space" then compress as heavily as you feel comfortable. That should approximate a decent room sound. The reverb you use will be the weak chain in the link, so use a good algorithmic or convolution verb...

Great advice. Sadly couldn't make the 3k boost work for me the slap was just to pokey.

hmm what advice could you give to an actual self-recording/mixing drummer when it comes to adjusting the drum sound? I understand listening to lots of references may help to "recalibrate" the ears and get a more desirable mindset, but then would it perhaps help to do the EQ+comp on the drums when practicing, to get the sound in the ears, as well as the playing technique as well?
