There’s 2 or 3 routes to get to Malenia’s boss room and one of them leads to a room with a scarlet bloom before the grace. It also drops a maiden outfit but I agree with our fight being her 3rd bloom unless she kept the 1st bloom for some reason

Malenia and miqeulla's lore is so sad, it actually makes me teary eyed... To think she didn't know a single thing about what happened to her brother while she slept. But with what jack said about telling her about what mogh did, she probably would've felt so guilty
@logeyperogi1805 Жыл бұрын
I do agree the lore is upsetting However, I have to correct something It’s Malenia’s fault that Miquella was stolen from the Haligtree in the first place Jack seemed to think that Mohg somehow defeated Malenia…but he actually just snuck in while Malenia was off in Caelid to fight Radahn Malenia left her brother unprotected which resulted in his kidnapping, then, after unleashing Scarlet Rot on Radahn and Caelid, she was brought back to the Haligtree, which ended up infecting it with Scarlet Rot Malenia unintentionally caused her brother’s kidnapping and killed their dream of a sanctuary for those spurned by the Golden Order That’s the reason behind her sleep, she became so depressed, it put her in a catatonic state Quite tragic, yet whether intentional or not, still her own fault
@LeanneKrv Жыл бұрын
@@logeyperogi1805I find it wrong to say it was her fault. She put trust to her people and Miquella to be able to take care of their land and Miquella himself while she went to fight Radahn and probably many other demigods during that war. It was not like Miquella is incredibly weak, he is incredibly smart and wise. It is very likely that Miquella was the one that pushed Malenia to go in the first place, for he is pretty much the voice and the brain of their land. He must have had his own plan. Thus, as loyal and trusting as she is, went to fight she goes. The kidnapping must have been incredibly sudden and so unexpected, it didn't cross Miquella's mind that Moghwyn would do something like that. He must've expected an attack, but never a kidnapping. For this is not something true warriors would do, the war was for pieces of the rings after all. So truly, it's just sad and unfortunate. Incredibly twisted from Moghwyn's end. It's nobody's fault but the kidnapper's alone.

I'm so glad Jack brought up the "drama" around the translation of these types of games, because, as someone who is an actual translator, it gets really tiring hearing people oversimplifying it to: They did a bad job! They are bad translators! Like, no, it's far more complex than it seems. And it gets even worse if there's actual dialogue with moving lips because then you have a time/frames restriction plus the need to lipsync. You can't just do whatever you want and call it a day. Also, I don't know how people think a translation gets done, but what the translator usually receives is a word document or a file with ALL the stuff dumped into a table and the minimum context.
@terrifictortoise56022 жыл бұрын
Thank you for having a brain!
@mcarrowtime7095 Жыл бұрын
I don't see why lip-syncing makes comprehending the meaning of a word more difficult, nor how a dialogue would make it more difficult when they, according to you, have a word document or file to reference. if your translation makes the meaning of a statement entirely different than its intended meaning, *you did a bad job*. the job isn't not bad just because it's difficult, just the same way a plate of food sucks whether it was easy to make or not. Is it understandable, yes. does that mean it was a good or mediocre job? No.
@blancaalmagro9597 Жыл бұрын
@@mcarrowtime7095 lip-syncing has nothing to do with the meaning of a word (I never said it does). What lip-syncing does is restrict which translation of said word you can use in another language because the movement of the lips has to be similar at the beginning and the end of the word, plus it's preferred to find an equivalent to strong consonants in the middle so it looks more natural. And you have to take into account the length difference between languages: what you can say in four words in a language may take you seven in another. You have a document, yes, but you may only know that it is a shooter, not that it is set in the 1940s or that the person talking is a man or a woman, or a bionic squirrel for that matter. Try to translate sentences from a genderless language to one that has 3 like German WITHOUT that context. The most common complaint I've seen about videogames' translations is that "X is not what the original says". Yes, some translations can be poorly done, I completely agree, but not all of them are. A lot of companies just prefer to keep as much information secret as possible instead of actually providing the translator with the means to do a more than decent job (plus in a ridicule time frame and paying the least amount possible.)
@mcarrowtime7095 Жыл бұрын
@@blancaalmagro9597 so, your argument for it not being a bad translation isn't that it's a good translation, it's that the studio doing the translating is making things difficult? I accept that its difficult, that was never the point, the point was that the translation sends the wrong message and changes the meaning of the ending of the game. the issue here isn't using the wrong ending to indicate gender or using a word with the exact same meaning just indicating a different gender, its indicating whether Ranni is bringing on the apocalypse or if she's freeing the people from the meddling of outer gods.
@blancaalmagro9597 Жыл бұрын
@@mcarrowtime7095 I think the misunderstanding here is that I was never referring to this specific situation, I was talking about Jack bringing up the subject of the work translators do. I don't know why the ending of the game might differ from the original in this case. It may be due to a lack of context, a human error (which is possible because translators are human, plus many people offer themselves as translators when they just know a language, and, since they do it for cheaper, they get the job), a choice made by the own company, a translation that went first through Google Translate before reaching the translator's hands (which happens so often it has a job category in the industry), etc. At the end of the day, we would only have a clear answer if we could talk to the person responsible for the job.

If you go back to Ranni's tower, she'll explain a bit further what her goal is. She states that life, souls, and order are all tied together closely at the moment, and she would rather them be farther removed from each other. To me, it sounds like she basically wants to remove her Order from the earth to hopefully lessen/end the constant squabbling of mortals in service of that Order. 1:12:37 I don't think anyone actually said they wanted a word-for-word translation of the original Japanese dialogue. Most people know that adapting dialogue from one language to another will always involve concessions, but in this case there were indeed some confusing word choices. Basically, the way Ranni's lines were adapted made it sound like she was going to throw the world into a state of isolation of the soul, and that the "fear, doubt and loneliness" was meant for everyone, when in truth she meant that the gods, order and all things divine should remain out of reach so humanity could make its own choices, and SHE was embarking on a scary, lonely journey into the cosmos to ensure that. That's important context that I feel was muddied in the way it was worded. But what do I know, there's probably a hundred other comments down here saying the exact same thing by now. Just throwing my two cents in. Very fun let's play, btw!

I believe there's a video somewhere pointing out that there's actually a carving on the moon that resembles a rune. That is probably Ranni's great rune. What she did at the end was probably transfering the elden ring to the moon to join hers. Therefore nobody on the planet would be able to tamper with it. At least until people invent a way to travel to the moon. But even then, she'll be there, along with her tarnished consort, to guard the elden ring. Be it from other human or outer gods. After all, her consort has proven that he/she can slay an avatar of god, and she herself posseses the fingerslayer blade that can inflict mortal wound on divine beings. Also of important note, Ranni actually planned to do all that by herself (as written on her wedding ring). By giving the ring back to her, the Tarnished is pretty much pledging themselves to accompany her on the lonesome path of keeping the elden ring way from the grasp of other outer gods.

So how I have interpreted Ranni's ending, is that she wanted to do exactly as Queen Marika wanted by removing the influence by the Greater Will. As the Elden Ring was made to create a set of order for the Greater Will to enact its influences. With Ranni, you destroy these influences by first ridding of the Elden Beast as the vassal for the Greater Will. Ranni then essentially "destroys" the Elden Ring, to remove the Greater Will's influence on the Lands Between. And with the Ranni ending you can't become the Elden Lord, since there is no more Elden Ring (you didn't mend it), but you still become king by marrying an Empyrean (We know Ranni is an Empyrean because she was given her shadow , Blaidd. And she is born of a single God Radagon, since her mother was a mortal. Meeting the criteria of empyrean). Please correct me if I missed anything, or if I got something wrong.
@TheTsubaKun2 жыл бұрын
I agree with this and would add that there is also the other aspects of Ranni's plan and why she says what she says. She brought back choice and free will. Immortality, The Golden Order, The Greater Will? All of those are now gone and people have mastery over their own destiny again. Destined death is dead with the death of Marina (the Gloam Eyed Queen and Destined Death herself), who was Ranni's other half (and was using her body as a vessel much like Radagon was for the Elden Ring) and now she is taking her new order away from the world where it can't be messed with by those who would seek to abuse it. This is why you had put the stars back into motion by killing General Radahn who had stopped them to prevent Ranni's destiny from coming to pass. Part of issue was that in order to put free will back into motion, someone "fallen from Grace", a Tarnished with no destiny had to choose to follow her path. Through the player's own free will we return free will to the world and leave with Ranni to allow the world to keep it. Because the future is no longer a foregone conclusion set by The Greater Will, no longer destined by Destined Death, no longer controlled by The Golden Order, it is now uncertain, scary, and fraught with doubt about what is going to happen next. In opposition to a Golden Sun, we now have the Silvery Moon of Fear, Loneliness, and Doubt, but we now get to choose what we make of it. Just as she says. I personally think it's actually rather hopeful rather than sinister.
@Kondzitsu2 жыл бұрын
you dont need the elden ring or greater will to become the Elden Lord - that title was a thing before the greater will showed up in this world. Check out Dragonlord Placidusax soul description. He was the first elden lord form the time before the greater will. So after it is gone you still can be the elden lord :)
@spearsage2 жыл бұрын
@@Kondzitsu even during Placidusax' era, another god much like greater will existed, and so did the elden ring. It's just a bit different than its current form (the old version can be seen on Maliketh's room). Most likely because parts of it was removed to better suit Greater Will's preference. Elden Ring is very important here because it's pretty much the law of the world, dictating how everything works. I believe what Ranni did was simply transferring the elden ring to the moon, where her greater rune is allegedly stored in after the death of her body. Therefore people on earth cannot tamper with it, while she and her tarnished consort will guard it from other outer god's influence (originally she planned to do this alone, as written on the lore of her engagement ring).

Months late to this series, but my thoughts on Ranni: She hasn't been mistranslated; Japanese is such an incredibly high context language, to directly translate her would be just as difficult to understand as this. To me, her ending means not only reducing the influence and presence of the gods, but that people of the world of Elden Ring would live with the same uncertainties and darkness that we have in our own world. Darkness, uncertainty, loneliness, these are endemic to our own world, and its up to us and our ability to make and find community to alleviate and cure these problems. She's not evil, she just doesn't want the will of the gods to infringe upon people's ability to live. Side note, thoughts on Melina also being a child of Marika?
@jackbelmont43892 жыл бұрын
Well in a way ranni being an empyrean, the greater will was grooming her to replace marika at some point. Probably due to the history of what the greater will has tasked marika to do (exterminate the Giants, wage war with the academy and then divorcing radagon from rennala which drove her insane among other things) ranni then decided to break from the yoke of the greater will. Of course if she gave signs of rebellion, blaidd or someone else would dispose of her. So she tricked the Nox people and gave them a piece of the rune of death to hunt down the golden child, which kick-started the shattering.
@hydra9911 ай бұрын
I've always thought of it in a similar manner. Ranni's age is the age of the stars and the moon. In the Lands Between, these have direct ties to sorcery and intelligence, with Ranni and Rennala both being mages with direct ties to the moon, even having spells representing it. So to bring an age of the stars may mean bringing an age of enlightenment and wisdom, where those in the Lands Between hold a higher importance on education and less on their faith in some god like the Greater Will or it's representative, the Golden Order. One line she says makes that stand out to me. "Here beginneth the chill night that encompasses all, reaching the great beyond. Into fear, doubt, and loneliness. As the path stretcheth into darkness." No longer will the golden light of the Golden Order or their faith in gods like the Greater Will shelter them from their fears and the darkness of the world. Now, their intelligence, wisdom, and cunning shall light their path.

For those who need help with Malenia, I suggest summoning one extra person online. I wouldn’t do too because then her health bar becomes too high. Then proceed to use your strongest spells to support the summoned player and to occasionally take the aggro from the Blade of Miquella so they can heal. If they run out of flasks, use a healing incantation on them. If you really get desperate. Search for the elusive “LET ME SOLO HER”. He’s a living legend. After finally being Malenia (after far too many tries) he proceeded to practice against her. To show off his dodging prowess, LET ME SOLO HER is completely naked but the jar on his head (nakedness being a sign of superiority in FromSoft Games, and to show how much they trust their dodging and reaction times). LMSH wields two katanas and can easily take out both of her phases extremely efficiently. Last I checked, about 2-3 weeks ago (as of this comment), he had amassed more that 450+ wins against Malenia. @RoxxSerm2 жыл бұрын
In my head canon shes way past her prime. She became weaker with each lost limb, and with every gain of rot within her. The outbursts of rot ( blooming ) are just the last cough-ups of her rebelling death. She has to resort on it for strong foes ( Radahn, you as the player ) because her broken withered body can't do as she'd like to.
@ChargeQM2 жыл бұрын
@@RoxxSerm Unfortunately, that's directly against what the game states. She is fated to become a goddess only after her third blooming, but she's been purposefully holding that back, both for the sake of Miquella and because she has her pride as a warrior, refusing to use that power to win. However, when pressed by a mighty foe, she decides winning is more important than pride and uses that power. Her first blooming caused her to leak the Rot, poisoning Caelid. Her second transformed her body. No one is sure about the third. It's terrifying, but also makes the Tarnished more badass when you realize he beat Malenia at her literal strongest ever.

Bit late to the party here, but Hoarah Loux is expected to be Nepheli’s birth father. They both lost their grace and when she is made the new lord of Limgrave, Kenneth Haight says “proper lineage”, this signifies that she is technically royalty

Loved the playthrough but not the game lol he showed the best stuff not everything like 70% of the game is repetitive enemies or bosses, large maps with nothing relevant, annoying places that are not worth going to, copy & paste dungeons with the same fking enemies 🙄 ppl give this game too much credit it's stretched for the sake of it, it would be a much MUCH better game if 50% of it was just cut completely better than ds3 if it was reduced I couldn't bring myself to even finish it again because a large part is boring asf
@Dangerous-Doug11 ай бұрын
29:50 I think she Bloomed in Heart of Aeonia, then in her fight with General Radahn to count as the second bloom and then when you defeated her first phase she bloomed for the third time transforming her into the Rot Goddess, she was like "The Scarlet blooms flowers once more, you will witness true horror" which could entail that she has become the Rot goddess.

Crazy I heard that the “real” translation was less sinister and implied that Ranni wanted to kind of let the people have more freedom and separate the Gods from the lands between.

Finished watching your ds 1 and 3 playthroughs. Had me remebering how much I love and miss these games, especially with how passionate you are for them. Never played elden ring so decided to come give your series a watch. Love that you are ending this series saying how you want to play the other souls games from your channel, and im thinking hey past jacksepticeye, you did it, they were amazing, and they brought me back here to moment you were feeling inspired to play more souls games. Feels like a full circle moments. So pumped to try Elden ring now and revisit all the souls games. The way you exposition the lore over these playthroughs is top tier, keep it up. Thanks for the awesome vids.

To clarify on Sean's attempt to trace the route of the Long March: it's not specifically stated that Hoarah Loux and his Tarnished had to march out _through_ the Lands Between in order to _leave_ the Lands Between, but from dialogue, it's mentioned that they were sent abroad to do battle in distant lands -- it might be neat to get to retrace some of those journeys in DLC down the line.

I bought this game slightly before the first episode of this series was out, and while playing by myself I was really not enjoying it. I was constantly lost, I had no idea what was going on, or where anything was. It was miserable so I thought I had wasted $60. When your first episode came out I decided to do a side by side playthrough and I have LOVED every minute of it. You have provided enough lore to keep me interested while also streamlining your playthrough keeping the important things in so I have a sense of direction in my playthrough. Easily has been one of the most enjoyable and memorable playthroughs of a game I have ever done. Thank you!
