Great point. It's also a way for Russia to 'fix' Ukrainian formations and attrit them. Once you stop moving and situate yourself, you become an easy target for artillery. As George Patton said in WW2, 'Fixed fortifications are monuments to the stupidity of mankind.'.

Is this confirmed by geoloc tho? Because it's quite debated. As is the merit of trying to capture western Chasov Yar. From all the places the Ukro cope considers of "non strategic value", this is the one that actually has no strategic value, once you hold the parts east of the canal.

That has never been their intention. People should actually listen to Putin and senior officials before they pretend they know Russian intent. This is a political war and not a land grab. Russia walked into Ukraine with only 180000 soldiers. The West along with USA invaded Iraq with nearly 1million men. Iraq in 2002 was a tiny, backward, starved, bombed to pieces country compared to Ukraine which had the 2nd largest army in Europe and vast amount of arms provided by the West even before the SMO.
