‘Razer’ and ‘competitive prices’ cant be used in the same sentence
@josephtaylor1330

Usually agreed, but their peripherals are competitive in price with the rest of the gaming peripherals. The viper wireless with the dock at 150$ matches the GPW launch retail price which has gone down due to being out for half a year.
@HardwareCanucks

I think you might be confusing "competitive" with "inexpensive". For example the Huntsman TE is about the same price as the G PRO. Definitely not cheap but no Razer tax.

When the switches have two actuation points it would make much more sense to use tactile switches instead of linear switches. Only then you can really feel a difference between the two actuation points. Just like camera triggers. Just a light press and the camera starts the autofocus. You press harder, feel a physical bump, and the camera takes the picture. That works really well even though those triggers have only a travel distance of about a millimeter maximum. But it wouldn't work at all without that tactile feeling.

Ironically only entry level cameras use two stage shutter buttons with a noticeable click. High end cameras just have squishy buttons and you have to muscle memory your way to knowing where the dual actuation is. I think it's stupid but it's also because in higher end photo work we normally use back button AF anyway so don't want the shutter having a click in the middle. I really wish they used an analogue shutter release that you could set to adjust your burst rate dynamically, the harder you push the faster the fps. My camera shoots up to 30fps in photos and it would be nice to gently push it for 1fps or fully depress for 30, and everything in between. Sorry for the tangent

@@Latsu15 You're thumb gets 8 different inputs to use from the pad and one from the rest. Now, WASD takes away the added benefit of four of those. Analogue removes a lot of versatility in terms of the number of inputs from the thumb (the rest button becomes less useful too), but you do get much better movement. The best would probably be an analogue stick with an optional plastic guide for those who don't want to use the stick for movement.

@JesseArt
@JesseArt 4 жыл бұрын
I'm right handed, but I would love to just have one for each hand and just get rid of a standard keyboard. I already have a split keyboard, the Kinesis Freestyle Edge gaming keyboard, which is pretty great. But I just think thumbs are just so under-utilized by PC peripherals. Having used a Razer Orbweaver with my left hand for 5+ years now, that's all I really want. Two Orbweavers connected by a cord in the middle. There are other split keyboards like the Ergodox which do have more modifier thumb keys, but the Orbweaver with its directional pad and now this scroll wheel add so much more functionality. Razer is silly not to recognize that right-handed users would also purchase these products designed for left-handed use.

Knowing how Optical switches function to detect analogue input, I'm surprised that the OEM for these switches, a little-known Chinese company called Dongguan Mingjian, managed to integrate analogue functionality into their design. See, previously, Wooting's switch OEM, another Chinese company called Adomax, achieved analogue sensing in their optical switches through a very complicated reflecting lens system that bounced a light beam two times in such a way as to allow varying amounts of light to reach the sensor as u pressed the keys higher or lower. Mingjian's design is a simple one-way beam of light that simply gets blocked or unblocked as the key is pressed past the actuation point. That they somehow managed to make this far simpler mechanism work in an analogue way is quite amazing from a design standpoint.

The 4 cheap ass two point micro switches of Razer's thumbstick are so cheap and uncommon on today's gaming gears,I had to order a bag of them directly from Shenzhen(which is about 0.05 USD per.Since obviously Razer can't afford to use the 0.1 USD 20M switches on the crucial part of a 199 USD gear) to repalce/solder them myself after my orbweaver chroma's thumbstick gives up after 13 months.I don't care if you using mechanical switches or god dam NASA switches for the keypads,If the thumbstick give up,that's the point?Shame on Razer to intentionally designed a weak point for the gears that were advertised on having better durability because of the use of mechanical switches on the keypad.

I use this baby as I have space issues as I game on a laptop. I do really like it with a couple of caveats. 1) yes the actuation points seem to close even when set as far apart as possible but if you choose key binds that are more synergistic it will really shine. Like one I set up with the stop staring a knee slide and the bottom to trigger a melee attack. It’s hard to hold the key at a higher activation so I recommend setting up combos that work together or just ignore that function. 2) the keys are susceptible to accidental triggering so I moved the first actuation down a bit to save on any fat finger typing issues 3) hand/palm rest is actually kind of slippery and I found that I kept moving around so I put a small strip of moleskin (material used to cover areas of a shoe that is rubbing) on the palm rest and it worked wonders. 4) yes the profiles can be a pain to work with. I currently have 5 set up ( destiny 2, Witcher 3, no man’s sky, Control, Homeworld remastered) so I have a small cheat sheet showing with profile is which so I can manually select. The synapse 3 is still kinda suspect and tends to forget its profiles. 5) setting up the key bindings can take time. I try to mirror other profiles to reduce constant muscle memory changes. 6) price is quite high..specially in Cdn$ but after a couple hundred hours with it I am loathe to go back to the laptop keyboard only.

The Tartarus v2 has horrible ergonomics unless you have long fingers. The adjustable hand rest is to high up when moved forward for shorter fingers and makes it uncomfortable to get to the #20 key for spacebar usage. Then if you move it back to get to the 20 key and lower it due to being to high, you can not get to the top row of keys without picking up your hand and moving it. Thus you cant get to the top row and also reach the 20 key at the same time. That said I am not going to just complain without making some suggestions. Ship with an optional wrist rest that fits flush with the unit. As using the Tatarus without the wrist rest feels ergonomically better and also angle the top 2 rows of keys in a concave fashion back to the hand to make them easier to reach.

I've owned the orbweaver for 5 years now. It seems that the construction and quality of this product pales in comparison. The fact you have way more adjustability in the orbweaver is huge.

Love my Orbweaver! I never understood removing a key just to incorporate a scroll wheel that isn't all that good anyway. Now if they put something like the weighted scroll wheel of a Logitech G502 that actually had some discernible tactile stops or could be unlocked for free spinning as well as incorporating some sort of on board hardware memory for storing profiles on the device, then I might consider upgrading. But as far as I'm concerned the entire Tatarus series is a downgrade from my 5 year old Orbweaver for these reasons and as you stated the adjust-ability of it.

I'd still buy a new G-13 over the Tartarus (and I have Razer mouse, keyboard, headset, mousepad....) - I just look at the shape of the Tartarus and think "no, that doesn't look right" plus it's 3 keys light. I play ArmA3, so the G-13 is fully loaded as it is, including the two buttons near the analog joystick. :) Fortunately my G-13 is still running like a champ!

Razer ... listening ? What you on man ? The tatarus line is plagued with faulty d-pad switches. Their support is non existent at best, but mostly just insulting. The orbweaver would dissassemble itself after a year or so.. screws would become loose, and the double sided sticky tape keeping the rubber in place would break down and make a huge mess. Not to mention key coating that would wear off extremely quickly. Not even going to touch synapse v3. Are you a dev, and want to develop around some of the functionality that synapse provides, but need some clarification on function or feature ? A kind email to razer support will get you a canned 'go eff yourself' response. I have a pair of belkins n52te that have lasted longer than any of the razer rehashed garbage. Premium pricing for premium garbage.

A benefit of WASD is that your pink can crouch with L shift and your thumb can jump with Space. With the Tartarus, joystick is controlled with the thumb, so what do you guys remap jump and/or crouch to? I mean, Space can still be jump, but that would mean taking your thumb off the joystick which would be fatal in competitive FPS.

Now I also own the Tartarus Pro because the switches were starting to act up on the Orbweaver. I would rather have purchaaed another Orbweaver. I find the mechanical switches felt better, and the dual actuation heights just a gimmick. I never use that feature. The keys feel mushy like a membrain keyboard. However it's the best controller I can find due to the key layout. I would rather have another Orbweaver Chroma but they are no longer made. Still superior to regular keyboards though because the keys are in columns and not staggered like a typing keyboard.

@@OriginalMergatroid - 1 year after, do you still think Orbweaver is better? How are you liking Tartarus Pro so far vs a good mechanical keyboard?
@OriginalMergatroid
@OriginalMergatroid Жыл бұрын
@@XvRXyZ Yeah. I don't use any of the fancy features for the depth of the keys on the Tratarus Pro, and the keys feel a little mushy. I prefer the click of the Orbweaver Chroma but some of the keys started going bad. I keep intending on opening it up to see if I could replace the switches with some Cherry switches. The other thing is the software keeps getting worse. It's bloated and not intuitive at all, plus it still forces you to log into their servers to use the features of the controller. If I could find another controller that used mechanical switches, and arranged them in columns instead of the off-set way regular keyboards align their keys, I would completely abandon Razer products and never look back. It's too bad that Razer doesn't understand how many people don't like their software. These companies tend to keep using software and double down when people tell them it's bad. All I want is simple software to control the product, not bloated software that controls every product they make, is hard to use, and requires an account.

Bought a Razer Tartarus Pro and love it EVEN MORE, never used a better left hand KB, it's literally the only Razer product that I like (I sincerely hate their mice, never had one last long enough to justify the price) and I LOVE it. Getting used to primary v secondary actuation is very difficult initially, but it can be learned and I also can guarantee the whole '3.6mm' actuation is a lie, really wish I could set the secondary actuation to bottoming-out, but even still it's my dream keypad. If you're into left-hand keypads and you've got the cash I've yet to see a better one.
