@@FractalGOOD TL-S12 is fine, I just installed a few of those fans in another rig and are decent given their price point. Its not like we can't swap the fans out for something even better, especially when the AIO is around $100 or less. Pump rate is an interesting metric to go off of. Some of the best AIOs on the market right now don't have a high pump speed, while some that do are not necessarily top performers.

I'm using a Peerless assassin SE on a 7800x3d and while temps are really good (below 70 while gaming, 82C when on stresstest like cinebench), the noise level is a bit too high for my taste. Think switching to Phantom spirit SE might make a noticeable difference in noise?

I'm so glad someone reviewed it, couldn't find any other reviews. I just installed mine and I was 'blown away' (in a good way, for me at least). Mine replaced a Peerless Assassin (that I moved to another build in an emergency) that was sitting on my 7800X3D. I know the cooler is overkill really as that CPU runs nice and cool anyway having a 120W TDP, though mine pulls far less than that as it's UV'd and barely overclocked. Maybe I wouldn't have been so happy with the noise if I'd installed it on something pulling 250W+, lol.
@AlienGurke
@AlienGurke 6 ай бұрын
There is no overkill for cooling since you can run your system with a better fan cooler or quiter which can be superior. Also if you want to upgrade from an 6c to 12c cpu you would have to upgrade the cooler if you got a cheap one for the 6 core processor. So in the end you would buy double for a cpu cooler if you decide for the wrong one. Ofc if your budget is small, a 30€ one does its job fine but if you can spend some more money for the cooler i would definitely invest that.

Thanks for this video! I recently purchased both a Frost Spirit V3 and a Phantom Spirit EVO and was waiting for this review before deciding what to use with my 7950X. Different Perspective: Couldn’t the Phantom Spirit EVO just be used as a lower noise Phantom Spirit SE if one just limits the RPM of each fan to 1500rpm just like the SE fans are limited to rather than just allowing it to ramp up to 2150RPM? It wouldn’t be higher performing than the SE, but it would be equal performance at a lower noise floor which should be an automatic win. Seems like the Frost Spirit still wins on the 7950X though.

I am currently using a Phantom Spirit SE with T30 fans, you can shove a T30 in the middle, barely. You slide it down with one edge in a channel and then slide it over. I had to use a different clip that hooks onto the closer edge for the second fan. It is freaking awesome. Thumbs up.

Interesting testing, especially compared to Tom's Hardware, where the EVO was always ahead at 100% Pushing Power (I guess at a normalized 38db it's a different story in the long run). What I would love to see, since the TL-C12 Fans seem to be generally good (used on Peerless Assistan, Phantom Spirit, etc). How would the TL-C12Pro compare on the Thermalright Coolers or in general use (Radiator, Case Fan etc), since they are a very very cheap option too, sitting at like 6,50€ vs the TL-C12 for 6€ (or even the TL-G12). Could that be the best new Budget Option for people, after Arctic P12 being basically the same price nowadays?

Turbulence noise generally comes from people not realizing putting a fan pulling next to an object creates much more noise causing people to drop fan speed overly low to compensate for the noise penalty. Always gap pull fans on heatsinks unless the heatsink has designed this gap into it like the Noctua U9S with raised edges for the pull fan side. You can use all sorts methods to gap it from felt pads to gaskets designed to create this gap by Noctua.

I actually bought this one a couple of months ago before all the reviews started rolling in. Good thing too since it seems like it's been unavailable as of late? I was using a Corsair H100i Platinum before but it would get noisy and the RGB on the cpu block was always messed up, like it wouldn't display blues correctly. Since I'm running a 9600K (at 5.2GHz) it doesn't usually have to work very hard so it's been pretty quiet especially compared to the old AIO I had. I feel that this is perfectly fine given the price point with the look AND using it on a relatively low power draw chip. I think your testing illustrates well that it should be more than adequate for use on something like a 7800x3d. If you're spending the money for something with higher power draw and performance for productivity then it is worth it to go for the SE or since you're already spending more money go for a premium brand... The blacked out look with the subtle led is just tooooo good to pass up. Looks absolutely stellar in a tinted glass case on a blacked out motherboard with a black graphics card.

I must have found a decent config because im running the OG peerless assassin 120 SE with noctua's A12x25 and it is both quieter and cooler than stock on my 12600k. Would've loved to see you guys but A12x25's on the Phantom Spirit to get some hard data on whether my personal experience is reproduceable.

How big of a temp difference is there? Tempted to swap the fans
@lockevalentine997
@lockevalentine997 9 ай бұрын
@@intriket Minimal, although im only running one fan instead of two, so with two you could probably drop it even further with 2. The big advantage is the massive drop in perceptible noise. Gonna use some more noctuas to deshroud my GPU and hopefully have a whisper quiet SFF build.

So then would the PS 120SE be the better option for a 7800X3D? About to pick one up, but looking at which of the two heatsinks is the best (since both are only a few dollars off each other).

Thanks for this. I was looking for comparisons between these two coolers to upgrade the workshop PC from a stock intel cooler and grabbed the PS120 SE for $35. The Evo is $49.
@chrism2964
@chrism2964 8 ай бұрын
My results are very different. The Evo is better than the SE in my testing, probably because I had it in an actual working PC, not open bench, not with the side off or anything like that. This was with a 13700K. It was also quieter in most usage cases because it didn't need to throttle, because it was a better cooler.

I often wonder about their test bench 'control' group kind of setting. I'd say, in most cases, you'd want to test these things in a real world setting, in a case, etc, because airflow matters when cooling, and so would CFM, other parts' heat as well, and an enclosed case dampening the fans a bit. I know there are reasons to test on the bench with minimal parts, but if you're using the same kind of controls in a case, it should give similar data.

already bought PS evo 3 months ago when im building new computer when people are recommending phantom assassin etc but i want to support thermal right and i dont mind spending abit more for their latest product knowing they wont disappoint, its doing my 7800x3d chip good, converted from custom water cooling full loop to air cooler and no regrets at all. easier maintenance and easy to replace component as and when i want without trouble of draining water and dismantling everything. no regrets!

So, for someone more concerned about noise than temperatures, which one would be better? WELSHYTECH compared them and the EVO sound even if it might be louder in dB, appears to be more of a smooth sound when compared to the SE, thoughts on this? Great videos btw ! This has worked great for me. Today I realized how heavy it is. Do you know if it causes the motherboard to bend? Do you think an anti-bend that goes over the CPU would fix it or is that just for contact on cpu, and not to stop bending

3:45 I think what's missing from this analysis here is the actual airflow. According to TR specs, the TL-C12C can hit 66.17CFM at just 1550 RPM while the supposedly superior TL-K12 needs 2150 RPM to produce 69 CFM. To me, this makes the cheaper C12C seem like the better fan so the fact that it's louder at the same RPM doesn't matter because it's also likely pushing much more air and the K12 can only produce more air by brute force.
@HardwareCanucks

Its not really the flow that matters as much as the static pressure in this case.

@@HardwareCanucks Makes sense. I didn't see the airflow number. BTW, the fan on the regular Phantom Spirit is TL-C12B. The TL-C12C or anything with C at the end spins counter-clockwise.

Phantom Spirit 120 RGB does have a bit of whining noise at high speed. It is not bad. Just there. I am glad they address this with better fans. I am happy with my Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120SE ARGB. It keeps my AMD 5900X nice and cool. And love the price. There are others that are higher price that are better, but the improvement is not enough to justify it being so.
