What’s up everyone, Erik here, and welcome to Hardware For Gamers. For those who are new to the channel, I mostly review and test PC cases, CPU coolers and PC case fans. So if you like these kinds of things, please hit that like button, and subscribe to the channel. It does help a lot.
My plan for this video is to try and quickly test and show the differences between push, pull and push pull. And or I guess to see if there are any differences. So this video is geared more towards people that are new to PC building. Now that’s not to say that an experienced PC builder won’t learn something new, because when you start testing weird stuff you can learn a lot of new and cool things.

Just last week I changed my Phanteks PH-TC12DX CPU cooler from the stock Push/Pull config to a single fan Push config which gave a big decrease in the fan noise sound without any discernible drop in performance when stess tested. The quieter fan noise is brilliant.

To bad you did not also made a test with different fan speeds between in a push/pull setup. You can adjust them differently, that i hoped to discover here. But overall a very good and clear video

I have to switch from a push to a pull because I'm upgrading my system ram from 16gb to 32gb and the fan is in the way, which I'm only doing because having 16gb of system ram and 16gb of vram bugs me for some reason. Anyways, good to know things will be about as cool as they are currently.

not many if any videos talking about this. I notice on my As500 plus a very audible sound when running the fans at max speed mainly due to the rear fan pulling creates an annoying acoustic when air is trying to be pulled through the heatsink fans. The same thing happens when an intake fan is directly behind a mesh filter but the sound goes away as long as there's a bit of a gap

pulling has better heat disipation due to the physics of lower pressure = lower temp. e.g. air flow from high pressure to low pressure created by pulling configuration of fan, like from ambient air to inside of radiator fins, results in drop of temp, thus more heat energy absorbed, by then warmer air exhausted out by the fan pulling it.

I found that pull causes significantly less dust buildup, likely from the much lower intake velocity

Thanks man, was looking for a test like that just because the fan of my AK620 cant fit with my RAM, so I wanna put it on pull-pull configuration. By your tests, it should be fine, right?

Yeah, it might be slightly louder, but temps should be pretty much the same.

I can't help but think results like this would vary based on the fan and heatsink array combo.

The shape of the fins on the AIO is very similar to the radiator on my 1987 audi ur quattro and that has a fan mounted inside an impeller shroud on the back end of the radiator. And the radiator sits far on the right hand side of the engine bay, away from the engine itself. Similar to how an AIO is placed. A lot of newer cars dont have the room to mount a shrouded impeller away from the engine and instead, with limited space , squeeze the fan in front of the radiator at the front of the engine. I think the old Audi had the right idea and this is also how an AIO should be setup too.

Nice VOD as usual buddy! I'm using a 360 frontal AiO with a 3 120mm fans pushing air in from the front of the rad + 3 120mm fans pulling the air from the back of the rad...pretty much like a sandwich sort of configuration, where each set of 3 120mm fans are the bread and the rad is the peanut butter! LOL Plus I have 2 120mm fans on top. The 1st one (closest to the front of the case) pushing air, the 2nd one (right above the cpu) pushing the air out and finally, the rear 120mm fan pushing air out). Any thoughts about this config?

By lowering noise you can can raise rpms which will increase airflow, I think the lower noise option wins,

I've been looking around for a test like this but with a Dual Tower CPU cooler which usually has one push fan up front and a second fan in the middle in the same direction. Anyone know if there are diminishing results to placing a "pull" fan in the middle and a second "pull" in the back of the cooler with nothing in the front? The reason Im considering this is I may have clearance issues with my ram sticks and my case cant spare the space to offset the front fan for the standard push config. looking to buy a Thermalright PS 120 SE for a R7 5800x3D

Thermals shouldn't really change, but the noise profile likely will. it will likely be louder and a higher frequency noise. just as long as your case is +50 cm around you shouldn't notice a difference.

Do you think dual fans both pulling will make a difference in noise or temps over a single fan? Going to use an AK400 dual fan or AK500s single fan, dual if it fits
@HardwareForGamers
@HardwareForGamers 7 ай бұрын
If I understand you correctly I don't think that's a good idea. Having both fans pulling air... Where will they be pulling the air from?
@baloneyslice247

oops i think i meant push! the standard configuration, they would be pulling air from the intake in the front of the case@@HardwareForGamers

if i use push pull unfortunately the pull fan and rear exhaust case fan more like kiss each other (like stacking fan) is this will make an issue in future? or should i stick with push only cpu cooler?
@HardwareForGamers
@HardwareForGamers Ай бұрын
Base on the temperature difference between push and push pull I don't think push pull is necessary.

it's also depending on the fans and the environment. Also if he's using a water cooler it take 10-15 minutes for the case temps to lower
