Thank you for an easy to follow overclocking guide on Ryzen 3000. It seems like that all the proformance-enhancing stuff just got a whole lot more complicated and wired with the latest generation of Ryzen. I think this isnt going to do Amd any favour. I have a question tho: The caculator suggests that you enable Gear Down mode AND set the Command Rate to 1t. Buildzoid mentioned that you should not bother with 1t und just enable Gear Down Mode. What do you think? Should you strictly follow the settings of the calculator? P.s. Legends say that you are still mashing the delete button. :D
@HardwareNumb3rs4 жыл бұрын
Heio Pei haha the delete button, love that clip, need to use it for other video too 😁 Regarding 1T I saw that Ryzen loves 1T, most of the time you must set 1T to be fully stable, the calculator isn’t perfect and some value may be different, but is a very good start, and if you don’t need to push the very limit, for 99% of the people is the way to go. Referring the CPU OC this generation is even easier than before, unless you need to do heavy multithreading, the best option is to leave the cpu in auto, to preserve the boost, even PBO is still broken, so the main focus for performance is the memory
@heiopei8734 жыл бұрын
@@HardwareNumb3rs But what about Vcore? Isnt the Auto stetting just pulling waaay more voltage than it should? If you have a 3200 Mhz kit on X570 should you start at 3200 Mhz or at 3600 Mhz like you did?
@HardwareNumb3rs4 жыл бұрын
Heio Pei auto vcore and cpu at default can boost higher than any manual overclock and the voltage can spike up to 1,5V to sustain that clock, but it’s normal since the sensors inside can change voltage and frequency even like 1000 times per second, is made that way, and it’s very efficient, nothing to worry about. For the memory, with a nice kit like the sport LT 3200 or better I’ll start with a 3600 and raise, with a lower binned kit is better to start at 3200

And I dunno where to unlock it if I do need to. I have Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 16GB (8x2) 3200 CL16 I saw in a different guide to put into DRAM calculator the speed you want - so I put in 3600; because I think a lot of people have got that speed no problems out of these sticks. I’ve been trying to get my Hynix CJR stable at 3800 for days. It errors after a couple of hours in memtest64. I’ve tried raising/loosening almost all the settings so far but it takes so long to debug when it can take up to 5 hours for it to error. My next plan is to try the safe preset or try the timings from 3866.

Should I give it (the XPG one) back to the store and get the Ballistix one? (More info below) The one I currently have is "XPG Spectrix D41 TUF, RGB, 8GB, 3000MHz, DDR4, CL16 - AX4U300038G16-SB41" and I can get a "Crucial Ballistix Gaming 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 BL2K8G32C16U4B" if the difference is that huge. I tried all the configurations possible with the Zen2 CPUs and the best is with the fabric maxed out (1866/1900), dual rank vs single or 2/4 sticks doesn’t really matter in performance, but consider that memory IC and single/dual rank or 2/4 sticks may drastically reduce the chance to max out flck and tighten the subtimings, so my advice is to go with a kit that can let you do that easily, or you will need countless hours to tune it, the Ballistix are the easiest to do the job, b-die in dual rank or 4 sticks can be a hard job, I don’t know the IC of that kit you want to purchase but going with 4 sticks may be a bad idea

PS - I’m intending to buy a Gigabyte Aorus Master x570 and a Ryzen 3700X.

Anthony Harding hey! I want to make a video for the 2x16GB soon, mainly to compare performance, the overclocking procedure is the exact same, follow the dram calculator and set the bios. If you want to go for 32GB buy the 2x16GB, it’s way easier for the IMC to handle 2 sticks instead of 4, probably with 4 you won’t go past 3600 (but I’ll try to check also this in the video I’m going to do!)

nequrix with the 3600 you can push a bit more if your cpu is lucky (usually the 6 and 8 core are), the flck/ram go 1:1 up to 1900/3800, the 12 and 16 core I saw that not all samples can go past 1866/3733, for the test I usually wait 10.000% or above, and I use the Karhu tool, it cost 9€ but is totally worth it 😁

what are the safe temperature limits for RAM?
@sp00n3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the kit. The RAM itself is specced for around 85°C, but depending on the kit and the amount of overclocking you do, the temperature limit might be much lower for stable operation. Samsung B-Die for example likes to stay below 45°C when using tight timings, above that it will begin to become unstable and produce errors. Other kits are not that temperature sensitive, I think the Micron ones used here don't really care that much.
