Id wager 5090 is THE most efficient. e.g. 4080 more efficient than all the GPUs that came before it. 3080 same with what came before. A CPU can run an old game practically on idle, yet in 2005 cpu would have to draw a ton in comparison. Should i run my 4080 at 4k 120hz and consume 500+watts? no way. 60hz doesnt worry me so much, i play at that and save all that extra power draw and heat.

They should just put an angled PCIE connector on it and make the PCB parallell withthe motherboard. They will get so much more room for cooling and people rarely use any other expansion slots anyway. They could even add mopre PCIE connectors to it both to increase power/data throughput but also to improve mechanical stability.

Nvidia definitely should have given these cards 2x12vhpwr. 80°C on the cable seems extremely hot. All these cards are going to be heavily power limited, and 2x12vhpwr would allow for some really interesting vbios/OC potential! I really want to see how far a 5090 could stretch if allowed to suck down 800w+.
@tourmaline075 күн бұрын
Completely agree with this - given the amount of problems with these connectors in the past nVidia should have used multiple ones for each card at 600W. Had a look at MSIs images for their upcoming Lightning 5090s and they look as if they might use dual 12vhpwr. I think it will be fun to see how high they can go , but I'll be watching someone else doing it rather than running my own power bills up!
@Frozoken5 күн бұрын
It's because the whole reason they made it is to only need one power cable but they pushed power so fast that they basically ran into the power limits of one cable in a single generation lmfao. They really should've just changed to eps/cpu 8 pin cables. Much better compatability and no melting with still a much better 336 watts per cable if they just mandate the same higher wire thickness as they did with the 16 pin

@WayStedYou5 күн бұрын
The tech is make a super expensive cooler because you get all the margin because you are nvidia
@nimrodery5 күн бұрын
Why would they? They don't allow their board partners to experiment on their own, and hardware is nerfed before partners get the retail edition, making it difficult to bypass power limitations or achieve a better OC than the FE without raising the cost substantially, and the profit margin is basically set by NVidia. Neither AMD nor NVidia should be competing with their board partners at all.

I am privileged to have the RTX 4090 version of this card. I under clocked it to use 150 W by lowering the power target and so doing I was able to reach a level where the card is generally in Audible. I also had to purchase a fiber optic display port cable for around $60 in order to isolate the graphics card from my sound system. This was not necessary with a standard computer speaker system, but was necessary when I upgraded to studio monitors. I am painfully aware that 150 W is below the performance sweet spot for efficiency of the RTX 4090 but for me overall performance has been superb and silence is king. I would consider scooping up this card to replace the one I have, but I don’t think I am willing to get up in the morning and refresh my page for it. I would have been happy with an RTX 4070 with 16 GB of memory and enough cooling to reach similar audio levels. I think the biggest thing that should give gamers pause about this graphics card is that it is faster than we need. I play single player titles at 1440 ultra wide resolution with a 165 Hz monitor and most of my games are capped at 60 frames per second anyway. I tried Ray tracing in Nvidia demo games, but I do not play any games that negatively support Ray tracing apart from those. I almost forgot to mention: I got my graphics card for $1750 or a $150 premium over MSRP. I made my purchase in April 20 23 and I could have chosen another online retailer which promised a $50 discount if I were willing to wait until June to have it shipped. At the time, I thought this was a risk as well as being deprived of the brand new computer. I had just built in all its glory for much longer. I was correct. By June, you could get cards like this for that price anyway. as for the pricing of the card showcase in this video, my guess is MSI will charge a $200 premium over MSRP. That would be fairly in line with the premium they charged for the 4090 version. I do not want to be the one holding the bag if the AI bubble were to pop, so I will not be buying any more graphics cards unless I have a buyer lined up for my 4090.
