Great reaction and no you're not the only one who gets emotional watching this video. I spent 28 years working in law enforcement, security and corrections. I do not condone what he did but far too often the system fails the victims of domestic violence. I do agree that I would go to any lengths regardless of the consequences to protect my daughter.

When my best friends sister told us what happened to her this was our only question. In unison. "Where's he at?". Long before this song came out. She refused to tell us and all these years later I still can't make my mind up if that was a good thing or not.

In country boy vernacular "Wait in the truck" translates as "I need to handle something and I don't want you to see it being done." Sometimes real men must unleash the monster inside us, we must be meaner than evil. We don't want you to see that side of us, we don't want you to fear that side of us so we tell you to ''wait in the truck" As she is on the stand testifying she says "I don't know if he's an angel because angels don't do what he did" I would submit that he was both a guardian as well as an avenging angel. When the system, when society fails to protect those weakest among us it is left to rough men standing outside the rule of law to do what is necessary to preserve the peace, protect the innocent, and return civility. Some call this "vigilante justice" but for some the vigilante is the only hope to obtain justice. Here is what I saw in the video: A drifter, a loner, a ex'con (Based on the prison tats) finds a gal who has been beaten, he knows the signs he's seen them in the past in a woman he holds dear. He makes the decision to help her, the only help he knows is violence. He has been to prison and knows he can do the time. He makes the choice to remove her from her prison, a prison of abuse and pain, he frees her.

Another play on words "I let the hammer drop." He let the hammer drop on the revolver for final judgment on the abuser. Then the courtroom shows the judge dropping his hammer(gavel) for final judgment on Hardy. Also the abuser was wearing a shirt referred to as a "wife beater". There's a lot in this song.

I'm a hard-core vet, retired LEO. IF any man doesn't cry over this song, there is something wrong with you. Think about this happening to your mother, sister, or daughter. And it happens all the time. All over the globe. The laws still to this day don't protect women. These kinds of guys get back out and will find you. The woman is not safe, no matter where she goes. Restraining orders are a waste of time because by the time the police show up, it's too late.

Very good reaction and yes he was an Avenging Angel. Avenging Angels were the first angels created by God. As a teen in the 70s I saw so many abused women and young girls. Where I grew up women belonged to the "man" of the house (Bible Belt USA). However, every once in a while one of those "men" would cross a line and then just take off. The rumors were that they were in hiding under some random septic tank. What do I know? I was just a kid. 🤷‍♀

He did what any father of a daughter would want someone to do for their daughter if they weren’t there to do it himself. I believe that Hardy's character lost someone he loved to domestic violence. He had just met her but instantly decided that her only chance was if the b *stard was dead. I don't condone vigilante justice but I can fully understand the mindset. Too many times victims are betrayed by the system that's supposed to help them.
@msangelstrange
@msangelstrange 6 ай бұрын
I have said this before, you don't go shoot someone because of a stranger you find in the street, BUT if as a child you went through domestic abuse of your mom, sister, aunt anyone that you love with all your heart and are too young to do anything to help and it ends horribly maybe with your loved one loosing their life. . Talk about PTSD when you are finally at an age to do something and you come across this poor woman in the street. Driving that road that day he may not have seen a stranger but instead the loved one he was too young to save.

I agree... Such a powerful song. I also agree there in an inherit good...a protector in most guys. He came across someone in trouble and was hell bent on ending her pain. From the video it looks like he took the gun with him for protection, he was going to confront the guy for what he had done....guy went for a shot gun and bad things happend. I haven't heard such a good storytelling song like that in such a long time.

You felt what it's like to be A REAL MAN! "Give heaven some hell" "A Rock" "Sober you" "Rednecker" Those are some good country songs of his to check out!!! (For now i wouldn't do "The mockingbird and the crow" or anything from that album yet, he switched it up and added alot of "Heavymetal" type songs and I don't want you to think that is his only style of music, id stick to the country songs first, then check out the last album)

I wish he would make a whole movie about this. I imagine that Hardy's character had a mom or a sister or someone else close to him who had been abused and couldn't escape their abuser ... hence the "She didn't tell the whole truth, but she didn't have to. I knew what had happened to her." They are in a small town. There might not be a hospital in town. Lainey's character was out walking in the middle of the night, so she doesn't seem to have access to a vehicle. I imagine that the cops had come before, but (being a small town) they probably know the guy. He might have been the football hero for the high school years ago when he helped them win state. That was why she was never able to get away from him. Of course, i might be putting together stories of relatives and friends and friends of friends to come up with the the back story.

Plenty of times my family has found out or been told about domestic abuse, so we made sure wife and kids were at the grocery store or church and the dad got a visit. No one was ever killed, but they found out what the other side of a bigger fist felt like. .

If this were a true story then both him and her would be in prison. Yes, the dude that hit her is a scumbag but you can't break and enter into his private residence and kill him. She would be in prison as an accomplice. On other comments on other videos I see some people say "well, he shot him in self-defense" NO, the only person who could claim self-defense in that situation is the abuser because someone kicked his door in to cause him harm.

No. This is going exactly where you think it is. He gave uo his freedom to give her hers. If you are gonna go down go down a hero.

No your not the only one. If it was my daughter there's no question about it. A stranger not sure if I'd go to that extreme, depends on the circumstances.

Hardy said the inspiration behind this song was what he would have done if his girl would have been beat up. Good reaction.

To add to the other comments... he was not a bad man, he was not an evil man... perhaps he grew up in a house of abuse.... as he knew what had happened to her without asking... he was a man who saw a need, saw an evil and acted on that need and evil. He was a man of faith (evidenced by the court scene bridge (Oh Lord have mercy on me was not asked to the court system... it was a plea to God) and visibly evidenced by the cross hanging on his rear view mirror... was his action legal, obviously not based on the trial, was it morally just.... that is up to each individual for you cannot legislate morality... but for every victim of DV, he would be an answered prayer... and for every man... the story forces the question... "what would I do?" I recently picked up on another aspect of the acting...you can see the transfer of 'weight' from the weight on her as a DV victim... to him, as the reality of what he did sank in looking at the body on the floor... she has her weight lifted as she no longer has to live that life... and the weight of the decision he made settles onto his shoulders, heart and mind.

The story is based on what happened to one of her friends. We can only imagine that this has happened many times. I mean it has to have happened a lot.
