At the end of the song, when she walks out of the jailhouse, she gets in his truck, so even after all this time she's still waiting in the truck

This. We don't have to be in love to protect. I just got married. I protected her 20 years ago. I don't have an actual memory of it, but she never forgot. Her ex was absuive and I shut him down in a parking lot. She tells me the story a lot, my friends who were there remember. I don't. It was just what I did. And will do again. I am glad I did because now she's my wife, and she's amazing, but I would do that for any woman. It's what men are for.

My son, Justin Clough directed this music video and I am so very happy for my son at the responses that he has gotten. This is a very sensitive subject for many, but I think that this song along with the video brought this problem to the front for people to see and hear.

The thing that most people don't understand is that even if a woman gets out of the abusive relationship they struggle with the effects of it the rest of their lives and it will effect every relationship they try to have the rest of their lives and it's really hard for them to trust a man ever again. I know this from experience but if you love a survivor don't give up show her how much you love her and be patient let her know that you would never hurt her or leave her Love her unconditionally.

No. He's in jail for life. Time for a life lesson..... "Just wait in the Truck " in that situation is what a man tells a woman to do so that they don't get hurt when something bad is going to happen. Many men have said this before. It may seem barbaric to you or others, but it is a reality due to our upbringing and our moral sensitivity. Men are stronger than women Men have been taught for years to protect women and children from harm. Hardy is showing you this. He didn't think about it, he just took care of it. The abuser broke the code Hardy had. He understood the cost and was willing to pay it. He didn't ask permission or run from it, he just did it. The girl didn't understand what was going to happen ( most likely in shock), but she was thankful for what he did. She said that her day of judgment came from a judge under the seat, meaning that he got his gun out from under his seat and passed judgment on her assailant. Hardy didn't ask for forgiveness from the judge but prayed for forgiveness from God. She visited him, and he was glad she looked better and he knew that he was going to be held accountable forever . She drove off in the Truck she was picked up in by him. The moral of the story is that some men just do, while others look away... who would you rather be picked up by if it happened to you 🤔

I was brought here from a reaction video I watched.... I'm a survivor of severe domestic abuse. I've had a broken spine, crushed wind pipe, broken bruised ribs, and collar bone. I've been choked out, beaten, tossed down a flight of stairs when I was 8 months pregnant, had my fair share of ICU stays and he would still manage to bail out and come back. He would do worse than before and then I was told if I reported it again I wouldn't even make it to ICU. I had been isolated from my family and friends, lived several hours away from anyone that I thought could help me. But the day the abuse was aimed at my then 9-month-old son (He picked him up and threw him at me like a rag doll) I found the courage to leave. He's the kind of person that changes the doorknobs inside out so when I would get "in trouble" I'd be locked in the room, or while he went to work. I am a firm believer that I would have been dead if I stayed any longer. My son saved my life. I believe that with all my heart. I had to wait until he was asleep, his mother helped me hide my son. I left with the clothes on my back and a backpack with any important paperwork. My siblings drove 6 hours to come to rescue me. I had to force my brother to just drive off after I got in the car and he saw that my eyes were bruised shut and I couldn't speak because my windpipe was crushed. He was so controlling that he drove out those six hours to my family's home with a shotgun to kill me and kill himself. Thankfully my father and brother were both there. This was almost 20 years ago and I still have anxiety attacks and PTSD from the physical abuse, rape, and mental trauma that I endured. But I am a Survivor. He was not a part of my child's life for many years until my son got older and never paid child support. I worked three jobs, went to school full time, became a psychologist to help others that have been through trauma, and continue to do so. I have since gotten married and had two children with the man that is "dad" to my son. HE raised him with me. HE paid for all his expenses, HE loves him as one of his own. That is what a Father should be. Sorry I got long-winded there.

Country never died. It was just hijacked by money grabbing producers and greedy artists that figured out the formula. It actually took me a while to even listen to this song after seeing it in my feed for a while. I generally avoid any song that mentions "my truck", "dusty road", "beer/whiskey/moonshine/any other type of alcohol", "a farmers daughter" and "guns". Specially when they're all in one song. To quote Bob Burnham: "That's textbook pandering". 99/100 times the song is gonna be trashy pop music disguised as country with all the right trigger words to make "country fans" cream their pants. The sort of BS we've been seeing on country hit lists for the last 30 years. This song somehow drops all those things into it, though the dusty road is wet and the farmers daughter isn't quite that, but still qualifies as real country.

Most people don’t know that the pistol under the seat is called the JUDGE!
@btramm82

That was not a Judge unless Hardy is 8 ft tall and his hands are the size of 2 average males. The Judge is a substantial gun and that was not one. "Judge" indicates the act of judgement and executioner in this case.

Wrong take on that he fell in love with her, he didn't know her, he was a Man. There are times in our lives where we (men) have had enough, we will set things straight. We can sacrifice without return. The beauty of this video is that she knew his sacrifice and was driving his truck at the end, denoting that yes, she may be waiting for a man that gave up his life for hers. Beautiful and tragic all the way around. Great reaction. Subbed.

Something I haven't seen anyone mention before is Lainey's line "I don't know if he's an angel..." The easy answer people would give the woman on this situation is that he was an avenging angel, saving her. But, from her point of view, she has to be at least a little scared that someone so "hell-bent" would turn out to just be a bigger monster. When we see her at the end she has come to realize who he really is. That he did what he did out of compassion for her, rather than to show power. But, in the moment, it had to have been terrifying.

Man shit. He didn't fall in love with her. He didn't have too. I'm married today because I defended her from her ex. We have a purpose, and if that purpose is prison for defending you, so be it. "Why does he have an intense amount of sex appeal," I think it's partially the acting. He's believable. The way he shoots that guy does not look professional, or like he's comfortable with it. He hates it. But he's protecting a woman, which is our job. It's why we exist. Hardy probably knows how to hold and shoot a gun, but he acts out in this video like he's never done anything like this. You can see he's doing what he has to do. That's the kind of man I want my daughters to marry.

When this came out SOO many who'd suffered violence (Damned if there is ANYTHING "domestic" about it... I Hate that phrase though I understand it tries to frame a picture of being trapped) reacted w vids or in comments about how grateful they were to witness this in your face realization of what does happen. Also reminded me of the inmate who was doing a life term (likely murder(s)) who ended a cellmates life when the cellmate kept talking about the terrible things he did to a young girl/woman... that con admitted, in court, I did it with intention and [paraphrasing here] I didn't Judge him... I just set the appointment (as if Divine judgement was to come).
