I know murder is wrong but as someone who has spent 28 years working in law enforcement and corrections I will say our system fails these women all to often. Nothing happens to the guy or he gets a slap on the wrist and continues the abuse. It's a great video and song. I honestly wouldn't go this far for a stranger, but if this happened to my daughter, well.....

My Dad was a homicide detective for the most part of his LE career which was a span of 35 years. So he saw it all, as you probably have and just don't talk about it. When my EX beat me up where I couldn't hide it, my Mom had to literally restrain my Dad from, well, doing something that would have destroyed our family. Later he went on to tell me that he had several women that were killed by the abuser that had been released either on bail or just a failed system....Needless to say, my Dad scared my EX enough that he never came around me again. My brother was also in the "Gang Unit" at the same Sheriff's Dept....So, my EX had two very powerful and good men that loved me. It took almost 5 years until I was free of my Ex. The saving grace was after i was beat up, I called LE, stayed in the back bedroom & heard them knocking on the door. My EX answered the door. He was arrested. The D.A. pressed charges based on photo's the female deputy took of my injuries...I was very fortunate to be free. I was so grateful the D.A. pressed charges. The system lets these guys out so quick and the next time it is usually much worse. There is always a next time with a man that beats on a woman...I have been married now 30 years to wonderful man. My Dad passed away not long ago, but I will forever be grateful for the love My Dad had for me and my siblings.

i grew up in an abusive household, watching my mother get beaten daily and then moved on to live through my own abusive relationships and what i can say about this song is that hardy brought to life a figment of my imagination that i have had since childhood. im not saying murder is right, but i am saying that i prayed desperately for the majority of my life for someone to come along and put an end to our suffering. hardy and lainy are most definitely a voice for the voiceless and i commend them for having the bravery to send this message.

The irony is -- in the beginning of the video, she was a prisoner of a horrible situation; and he sacrificed his freedom so she could have hers. Now, at the end of the video- hes the prisoner. Also, in the truck(which he let her keep while he was locked up) - Vigilante justice is never a good idea, but so often the system fails these women -

I'm just speaking on how the system is so messed up, and that's coming from my own experience with them,I was Married for 12yrs to a Man that not only physically torture me, I'm sorry for saying this but sexualy abused me,at times would keep me tied up, burn me with cigarettes and burn our 2 girls with cigarettes, now see all this was going on all through the marriage and in the beginning, yes I'd call the cop's and they'd lock him up,ok he make bail and comes home and you tote a bigger ass beating, well after years of that and thing's getting worse you leave, he finds you brings you back, I tried everything, finally he hired a man to kill me and run me off the road and I was on life support for 3 weeks and in a coma for 3 months and when I woke up I didn't know who I was,or my kids,or parents nobody, I'm 60yrs old now and I've had 2 Brain Surgeries, learn how to feed myself and walk again, all of that happened on my 29th Birthday, I use to have a dream I was gonna die before I was 30 in a car wreck, me...I'm saying God don't make mistakes, He put that Man there to save that Woman for reason, We Serve an Awesome Loving God and I give him all the Glory, Thank You Sir for your reaction hope you have a blessed evening 🙏 sending love from Lafayette Georgia 🙏 🍑

Our justice system is broken. As a nurse I’ve seen a lot of women repeat visits to the ER because of domestic abuse. We try to get them assistance to leave the abuser, but the most dangerous time for women who are abused is when they leave the abuser. He could have taken her to the police but the abuser would likely get a slap on the wrist and the abuse cycle begins again. He could have taken her out of town with him; the abuser would have found another woman to abuse. He saw a problem. He fixed the problem and accepted accountability for his actions. He said he is ok with spending forever in prison just to be able give her her life back. I am a Christian and agree he committed a crime; but he also saved a life. He sacrificed his life for her’s. He is praying in prison, asking for God’s Mercy, and our God is a forgiving God. I don’t recommend doing what he did, but this is a hard one.

Hardy and a buddy wrote this song. They started with a hypothetical conversation on what they would do if something happened to their wives. I think they did a amazing job on this song. I was with a man that hit me once... when I could see that it would happen again... I left. (He slapped me once... I punched him 3 times back. I would not take that from anybody. We were told, taught and had it hammered into our heads... you don't hit women. Then dad told us a story a couple times a year about a woman way back in the day that expedited this.... he passed out after and she worked him over head to toe with a hardwood broom handle....he woke up with marks all over himself and never touched her again. The results... it flips the switch in us. ) BTW I promised myself to never be in a relationship like that again... and never did. If you are reading this and are in this situation, you CAN leave. You CAN choose something better... when you are ready. (Skip the broomstick... just leaving is best.)

I’m not saying I wouldn’t do the same damn thing, but it was cold blooded. And I’d do the exact. Same. Thing. And I’d sleep like a baby. He wasn’t innocent in this situation, and I wouldn’t be if I did the same damn thing. And like him, I wouldn’t care. Years ago I was in this Hell. I was thrown through a window, had my hair set on fire, beaten, bones broken but couldn't go to the hospital. The police said things to me like, If you would shut up he wouldn't have to do that. Or Just do what you're told next time. Restraining order wasn't enforced, he found me at the shelter so I had to leave to protect the other women. I moved a lot. He found me. He ended up dying of stomach cancer.

He is an angel. Abusers don't change...they'll just find they're next victim unless they go through the "I'll kill you if you leave me.". He saved her and sacrificed himself. As a DV survivor and then a DV Counselor, I debated the "morality" of this. Knowing that the only place abusers should be is life behind bars or in a pine box is because society and the judicial system are worthless when it comes to DV. If this video was a true story, I would bet he knew someone who he loved that suffered from DV. It's also possible that he didn't intend to shoot him...only scare him but the guy reached for his shotgun. The way Hardy exhales and facial expressions makes me think that it came down to self defense. But none of that matters. That abuser got what he deserved. "Judge not....", remember that from seminary school?

Once he made the decision to go through that door he was in a self defense position. He states he dropped the hammer before he could get the 12 he was reaching for. I also feel he is not asking the court for mercy, he asking the Lord to have mercy on him. I have never been in an abusive relationship but I am glad there are men out there that would help someone that is in her shoes .

The shame is that there aren't many out there that would even do what Hardy did and that's when it's sisters-daughters-grand daughters. And make no mistake abusers only get worse at what they do. Jail doesn't stop them-prison doesn't stop them. And the law only spanks their hands and makes them more mad.

To me, it's a clear case of PTSD from his childhood of probably seeing his mom and possibly himself, abused and he was too young to stop it. So, he promised himself, never again and when he saw lady by road, in rain, beaten up, he snapped. I'm not for vigilante justice to point if killing somebody, but I do think the abuser needed the crap beaten out of him with a warning that if he ever did it again, the guy who beat him would hunt him down like the dog he is and it would be worse. I wish I'd had someone do that much for me. I'm a DV survivor and I was married to my abuser. I was abused physically, mentally, emotionally and sexually. He raped me so badly. I bled and couldn't sit right for a week. That was 21 years ago since I got out and I still shake uncontrollably if I smell the whiskey he drank. I went to police and lawyer, told them everything, and nothing they could do because we were married. If I left and took our son to protect us both, I'd be charged with kidnapping and abandonment of property so he would have gotten MY family home and land. If I had rape kit done at hospital, no charges would be filed or hold up in court because law looked at it as kinky sex due to our being married. Didn't matter he did it against my will and outweighed me by 130 pounds. He threatened to hurt my elderly parents if I left and knew anywhere I would go. I was so stuck. If I told daddy, daddy would have shot and killed him but daddy was 85 and I couldn't let him go to prison for me. My ex had affair and that gave me the out I needed. I went through intense therapy to get my head right and found myself again. I didn't date during that time. Awhile later, I met my angel and he and I have been married for 20 years now. He loves, respects and treats me well. To other women reading this, if a man dies ANYTHING to you that you know is wrong like this, don't forgive him or give him another chance or stay. Leave him right away. If you stay, it will only get worse to the point that he basically owns you. Prayers for anyone going through abuse of any kind. Thank you reverend for your reaction to this song/video. I knew you'd be conflicted about it, but I enjoy hearing your thoughts dear sir. May God bless you always.

There is no lesson that they will learn from. The predator in them is ingrained too deeply. They slowly distance their victims from friends and family and they don't feel they can get out. My wife was in a number of abusive relationships, metal plates in her jaw, weeks in the hospital. There is no other punishment acceptable to me. It took years to get her to stop apologizing for literally nothing. She would drop her eyes and say I'm sorry. The emotional baggage that is left is so overwhelming at times. It was a long journey, but when her mom thanked me for giving her real daughter back, every minute was worth it.

I believe that Hardy's character lost someone he loved to domestic violence. He had just met her but instantly decided that the only way she would be safe is if he was dead. Plus, right after he did it for few seconds the gravity of what did sank in, it showed on his face. I don't condone vigilante justice but I understand the thought process. Even after pressing charges many times justice isn't served and they're still terrified for their lives. A common occurrence is also that the abuser once they start losing control of their victim often kills them.

I'm an old southern woman, and I don't condone murder. But, if that man was beating her for a long period of time, then he qualified as what my grandma would have called "somebody who just needed killin'". As a victim of abuse, I prayed for an angel. What I got was the backbone to fight back. That will to fight included the ability to look him in the eyes and promise him a one-way trip to Hell if he touched me again. To this day, 40 years later, he knows that I still mean it.

He did it, knowing full well that he had nothing to gain from his actions and everything to lose. But he never gave his well-being a second thought. He just did what his conscience & character dictated with no hesitation at all. And her life is better as a result. These are the kind of people that, when presented with certain situations, like some soldiers in combat. They simply react as their nature dictates and completely disregard the consequences to themselves. Some Medal of Honor-winning soldiers have done precisely what this guy did-like MV TSgt John A. Chapman, ON March 4, 2002, who was awarded two medals of honor posthumously. In my humble opinion, this guy should not have spent even one day in jail. He just did what society and law enforcement all too often fail to do. He took out the garbage permanently. That guy had not only beaten this girl horribly and repeatedly but also threw her out into the rain. He was already working on another one when this girl’s savior busted through his door. So, this girl’s selfless savior inadvertently saved two women from this horrible fate.

I admire a man that stands faithfully on his principles. He took responsibility for his actions without complaint. I had a friend that suffered from DV. It took her almost loosing her teenage daughters to the system to get out. The sorry sob started trying to mess with his own daughters. Sad thing is, I warned her 10 to 12 yrs earlier about that before i separated myself from the situation protecting my own daughter. You cant rescue someone that doesnt want to leave. Of course i did not know how bad it was till afterwards. The only reason I warned her was that she told me, the system took his kids from his previous marriage. She didnt know why, I pointed out she needed to find out for the sake of her own girls. She told me stories of broken bones and hospital visits after she got out. I wished she had listened when I tried to ward her off him in the beginning. He came onto me when i was jail bait. Then she met him, barely legal, he was old enough to be her daddy. Just left a bad vibe so i had to say goodbye to that friendship to protect my own children.

I'd say that in this story, he probably grew up watching his father beat his mother & get away with it time & again. Sadly, abusers get caught & go to jail & then get out & beat or kill their victims as soon as they are free. As you say, this is extreme, but this powerful song is making the rounds & the subject of abuse is being discussed. Maybe Hardy is telling us to be our sister's keeper & protect her. 'See something, say something or DO something'. Not murder, but SOMETHING to stop what is happening & don't look the other way.

Sometimes the law doesn't do enough. To many domestic violence victims (men & women) end up dead before the law really does something. So from the day I heard it I have been torn here but I can't say I blame him at the end of the day

Over the years I've come to better understand the mindset of some that have had a mother, wife, daughter or loved friend absed over and over again. Add in the the fact that the offenders are often more aggressive and dangerous after they are processed and released. It often leads to the death of the one that was abused...

I watch reactors react to this just because I love the video and like to see what other people think about it. I understand the surprise when he shoots the abuser, but as someone who's seen this and dealt with it in his family, with his friends, and in other ways it's not really surprising to me. Usually a person is that way because that's how they are, this is an end for the situation because the legal system doesn't usually handle it correctly. Because of the laws around domestic violence at some point you have to decide whose life needs protecting and there are those among us willing to make that decision.

A mans honor is what he is. He knew he couldn't walk away and leave her to more torment and possible death. He told her to "wait in the truck" because it was in his hands now. This is choice, his sacrifice, his consequence and he wanted her to have no part of that. He made that choice with his honor intact, he was sentenced with his honor intact, he is doing his time with his honor intact. And he still knew his God. He released her from her prison, her hell and he is at peace with that. And if you read the bible you know that Angels, even Jesus and God himself will raise their hands to protect "us" or even send someone to intervene. Great song. Great topic for discussion. For instance, would anyone's negative opinion on this man killing another man change if this woman were a child? Men who act on honor are a rare thing today. Very rare.

This song always gets to me deep in my soul. although as a woman I can fully say seeing a woman defended this way is nice to see. Then also I gotta think of how many times even after leaving an abusive relationship we seem to just repeat our choices. so as a song/video love it, just dont do this in r/l, try to help someone in these situations in another way

I think that he is showing personal Honor. He did not do anything that we do not ask our Military to do for us. He did it for someone that needed help. While I am interpreting that he was going to beat up the guy, until he reached for the 12 gauge shotgun. But it is only my interpretation of the video.

I am not a religious man by any means, but I love this man's channel. I feel it gives me perspective and I have a lot of respect for his character. That being said, I feel this situation has many facets to consider. His perspective that there is a justice system in place, and that would be the proper avenue is a tough pill to swallow in the real world. I am 54 years old and have seen the justice system fail over and over again. That is not a judgemental statement. It is simply fact. Mankind is naturally flawed. Individuals are flawed. And it is my opinion that the justice system is very flawed. I have not engaged in any "vigilante " act, but I can certainly understand a lack of faith that the system would produce proportional justice. Call me cynical if that is what it is, but it's an honest statement.

I agree if our justice system cared about the victims but they care more about the criminals. You hear all the times that the guy gets arrested and gets out and ends up killing her. If anyone touches one of my kids that way I will be in his shoes.

Great, thought-provoking song. A society cannot call itself civilized when the weak are not protected from those who would prey upon them. Our laws and justice system are there for that purpose, but too often fail to protect the weak. When predators step outside the social contract and injure/abuse/torture/kill others, something or somebody needs to stop them. The protagonist's actions were rash -- and costly -- but he stepped in where "the system" was likely to fail. There are times / situations -- resulting from predators' actions -- where violence may indeed be the only right answer. What indeed makes a good man?? It has been said that a good man is not a harmless man, but rather one capable of extreme violence who voluntarily keeps it restrained. I won't say that the protagonist killing the abuser (judge, jury and executioner) was absolutely correct. Doing so was rash and not necessary in the moment to offer protection to the lady. It was an absolutely final solution, though.

The law and the court fail women who are abused, and a restraining order is just a piece of paper. My husband was told by the judge not to come within 500 ft of me and the children. He came right into the house, sat down in a chair, calmly said what the judge had said then told me if I called the cops he would kill me. I ended up moving to another town with just suitcases, he found us on the internet, called and told me he knew where we were and that he could get me anytime he wanted to. I had to move again and change my number. He had been to court for domestic violence a total of 4 times. I didn't feel safe until he passed away from a stroke at work from cocaine use.

The abuser was reaching for a gun ("I let the hammer drop before he got to that 12 (guage) he was reaching for"). I'm all for the abuser getting his due but when he reaches for the gun, the person handing out justice should be able to protect himself. If she had had a firearm, maybe she wouldn't be in this circumstance.

You are so right, he had no right to do that. There are some people out there that jail is the only way to stop them. If they are not stopped what to do? This is such a hard issue. I agree with what he did, I don't agree with what he did. That's the question the song is asking.

Women are offered a protective order first which is just a piece of paper with a judge's name. The man is served with the protection order that says don't come within five hundred yards of her. Men don't even read it and his first thought is how could she do this to me and file a order of protection against me. She will be gone by his hands before sunset. Seen it happen.
