You probably already know this but if you like Screaming Eagle, I'd recommend Favia run by one of Screaming Eagle's old winemakers (Andy Erickson) and Heidi Barrett's Barrett & Barrett. Heidi did Screaming Eagle's first vintage.

Thank you for the great videos. I really like the decanters and some of the glassware you guys used in the past. Can you tell me a little more about it? And maybe share why sophisticated wine drinkers use them? I am a very beginner. :D
@OurPourDecisions4 ай бұрын
Interestingly, our stemware is from Costco and Williams-Sonoma. We don't use some super high-end glasses right now and some of our viewers have commented on that. I think the most important thing is to make sure your glasses don't have any soap residue in them (i.e. from dishwasher) and that you don't use dryer sheets for the towels that you dry your glasses with. The dryer sheets will impart a fragrant fabric softener and you do not want that on your wine glasses after you hand wash them. I know this gets really nerdy but it matters a great deal.

Awesome video. Would love to see the three of you guys do a blind tasting on California Cabernets comparing the highest end cult Cabernets ($500+) vs. the more plebeian (but very good) CA cabs that us common folk drink (i.e. O’shaughnessey, Pride, Kamen, etc.) =).

Do “cult” wines use any additives like color, oak essence, etc., or do they rely 100% on the grape juice for flavor?
@nuno.peixoto7 ай бұрын
100% grape juice. It's the wood and the winemaking techniques that will impart those secondary aromas/flavours.

1994 Harlan, if you can find it is over $1000. What an experience Marius and B! Parker gave that vintage 100pt!
@Ruirspirul7 ай бұрын
parker giving wine 100 points should be you first question mark😅
@staceyland7427 ай бұрын
@Ruirspirul ;) he was exuberant about the wines he liked and had a huge affect on what was produced in Napa for years, so to ignore him and any wine he liked would be a mistake. Our palates may differ, but his remarks and reviews do give us a peak into a history of Napa wines.

Me too. But probably for a completely different reason. They describe the channel itself. It's a poor decision to watch this crap. That Harlan cork shows questionable storage. "Dusty tannins"(astringent?), "more approachable", "garnet"(more bottle age for the same year). I liked the video.

@OurPourDecisions7 ай бұрын
LOL - too funny. Caymus is my brother's favorite wine. When he visits from Norway, or when I travel there, I make sure to give him plenty of Caymus SS. It's like liquid candy - sweet and syrupy - and he loves it.
@spamham19766 ай бұрын
@@OurPourDecisionsdo you think Caymus adds mega purple to their wine?
@CultWines2 ай бұрын
There is not a comparison between these wines. I really appreciate the video and I think you guys did a great job, but it should have been mentioned that the Screaming Eagle is basically 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Harlan Estate is a Bordeaux style blend. Two totally different experiences. The Harlan it's definitely going to be more fruity and have more integrated tannins due to hell the different grape varieties mesh together.

original screaming eagle are only up to the vintage 2009, as long as jean phillips making the wines there. in this time there is guaranteed that the number of bottles from only one vineyard is really limited.
@marknelson87246 ай бұрын
The 1994 vintage from Napa is the greatest vintage I have seen. The only other vintage comparable, to me, is 1999. Wine Spectator noticed this too and compared the two vintages by taking the scores they had given to 20 or 30 or more wines that they had tasted from both vintages and then adding them up and dividing. 1999 "won" by 0.1 points. But there were stylistic differences. The 1999 vintage happened after the huge and super delicious 1997 vintage that lead to the big alcohol wines of the first decade of the new century. The 1999s did not have the big alcohol but were brilliant. The 1994s could do anything. With or without food, drink now or cellar. The 1999s could do those things too and seemed to have a bit more fruit and a bit more structure on a slightly lighter frame. Of course, these are my opinions and I'm sure someone would disagree. That's fine as no one can drink the wine for you.
@OurPourDecisions6 ай бұрын
That's amazing - thank you so much for sharing. The '94 Harlan was such a special wine and I'll remember it forever.
@Nems990Ай бұрын
IDK - if you are arguing best vintages of the 90s in Napa. I would go with 90 and 92 before the 94 and 99. 90 and 92 still have wines that were almost all classically styled. There were some 94s that were already getting quite ripe. 94 Harlan is def an example of that phenomenon.

I believe she is very very wrong. Wines of Napa made in a Bordeaux style like Montelena, Mayacams etc they age perfectly to gain complexity in the nose and moutch with years in the bottle.....Classical modern Napa - like Caymus, Lokoya, Harlan and also Screaming Eagle are only ment to cost a shit load of money!! They do taste great when young, but as couple of my tasting showed, they do not actually age well. They do not get better with age - AT ALL. They are in fact ment to be drunk early - by those who like the "fruit and vanilla bombs" in their glasses. With age they simply lose these nice aromas and gain simple tercery aromas like any other wine on the planet.....So believe me - unless you are drinking ages Motelena or 1-2 similat historic wines, just do not go for anything very old in Napa
