Hi Jay I’m a drinker from Bangkok, Thailand. Although a relatively new followers of WINEKING for over a month or so, I found your videos truly amazing with the way you, Peter and Pat casually went through tastings while at the same time providing useful background knowledge, tips and most importantly valuable experiences. Me and my brothers are huge fans of your channel so please keep up the efforts! We have been fond Bordeuax drinkers so it would be great if you might want to consider the following topics for your next videos 1) best value red Bordeaux under USD 50 2) top qualities Cru Bourgeois reds that outperform their rankings and pricing 3) blind tasting of new world Bordeaux blend style. Let me know what you think. Will continue to follow your channel. Keep up the good work!

Jay, hoping you are feeling better! I ordered Le Ragnaie based on this video - I love it! Ordered a second bottle already from same vendor to lay it down! Here's hoping you and Peter get back to some videos in 2022 for us to enjoy and for you to enjoy tasting!
@jawn69553 жыл бұрын
I loved this video! Interesting psychological test. I am a scientist and suggest for you an experiment: you do the tasting but cannot see each other's glasses, AND your number 1 is Peter's number 4, etc, so making it very much even blinder a test. Then you could see which ones were your favourites and in doing so see whether you still agree as much, and as such, what the degree of influence is of communical conversation. To further the experiment, you could do the wine tasting actual blind (blindfolded) so as to reduce the effect of visuals on the taste experience, thus showing us a more purely taste/smell/mouthfeel sort of experience. I suppose it could get quite messy, like that.... haha. I don't think this is a great idea, but it is a few ideas for you Jay!
@itsmederek13 жыл бұрын
I think it is a very good idea in order to test Jay's level compared to Peters, and see if he really agrees with Peter so much on his own accord or is influenced by his teachers opinion. The blindfolds are probably a bit too far though haha.
@vbnbnbxmnxfm3 жыл бұрын
I like the idea of mixing up the order but blindfolded test are problematic for a professional. Could they do it? I'm sure, but in order to get an idea for quality and cost, visual inspection is a must.

No im sorry but wine is for tasting and to a lesser extent smelling. Judging it by how it looks is like judging it by how it 'sounds'. Blindfolding is a good idea.

I learn so much every time I watch every video! Starting last year I started buying only one bottle at a time. I don't feel the need to write everything down like I used to, but I still have a way better understanding of what I'm putting into my mouth and liver. None of my other friends will drink wine, but I am obsessed with dry red. I tried a sangiovese wine recently for the first time. The first sip was overpoweringly aggressive, but by the beginning of the second glass I was in love. I have a budget of about $10-20 each bottle, and even though I can't get GREAT wines, every wine I try becomes better and better. EVEN if its the same bottle. I can't thank yous enough, from the bottom of my heart, you've given me a joie de vivre. Or maybe its all the wines fault hahahahahaha

Learning lots about wine through this channel and my current favourite is a Barolo Serralunga from Luigi Baudana, good bang for buck! Looking to buy a Château Haut-Brion, Latife or similar in that class of ”first growth Bordeaux” :)
@gagamba91983 жыл бұрын
You might want to consider a 5th Growth a good launch into grand cru Bordeaux, for example Lynch Bages in the 2014, '15, and '16 vintages which are drinkable now. Runs about USD $140 per bottle, which is not a severe jump from the $50+ you're paying for Luigi Baudana. An even better bang for the buck is '16 Grand-Puy-Lacoste at about $80, which is quite close to what you're paying now. A 2014 Haut-Brion, which is drinkable now, will cost you about $450. Lafite of the same year is about $700. The '16 for both is even more expensive and really isn't ready to be drunk for several more years. Three of the five 1st Growths are Pauillac, and there are plenty of Pauillac represented in the 5th Growth (12, iirc), such as Grand-Puy-Lacoste and Lynch Bages. Now, not all 5th Growths are well regarded, but the two I mentioned here are very good quality.

@@DiplexHeated DIPLEX WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE :DDDDDD LOVE YOU!!
@ronmcmartin45133 жыл бұрын
@Diplex--ga gamba had some good recommendations. All of Europe is Vintage dependent. An "A+" vintage to a "D", while Calif. is mainly an A or B vintage. I disagree with ga gamba that 2015 & 2016 are drinkable now. 2005, 2009 and (lesser, but good vintage) 2012 are drinkable now or near future. 2010 & 2014 will be ready in 2023. Good Bordeaux(like good Barolo) needs about 10 years of PROPER storage. Knowing your preference for Barolo, I would stay in the Left Bank. In your world, Right Bank would be like fruitier Tuscan wines(St. Emilion is similar to Calif.). If you have PROPER storage, 2018-2020 are all Excellent vintages for Bordeaux. Regarding your desire for 1st Growths, most Bordeaux(above $50) all taste like their specific vintage. I'd MUCH rather have a Great Vintage of cheaper wine($50-100) than an off-vintage 1st Growth($400-600). Would you rather have a good Barolo producer's 2010/2007(great vintage: $100), or a "1st Growth" Barolo producer's 2002(Terrible vintage: $250)? A horrible vintage of "Anything", tells you Nothing about that kind of wine. IN GENERAL, Pauillac & Pomerol are more expensive than their quality. "Most" highly rated(expensive, 2nd Growths) of the Left Bank taste like Pauillac(powerful but elegant). IN GENERAL, St Julien(sour cherry), Ste Estephe(tannic, but not like Barolo; more like Napa "mountain" vineyards vs Valley Floor), Margaux(feminine, perfumey), Pessac(minerality, gravel, but not "earthy" like Italian).

I love your channel and the passion for wine. As someone studying about it, you guys are the perfect example of what people in the wine world should be; kind, unbiased, humble, can’t think of an antonym of snob, knowledgeable, & funny, At the end of the day, wine is just an agricultural product coming from tons of grapes from all over the globe to produce a drink unlike any other. You guys do a great job pointing out crap cheep wine and good cheep wine that is acceptable. For Chardonnay, I like when it has oak on it for that bread, creamy notes unless you know of a Chablis that has those MLF characteristics. Keep it up. I’d like to see a video where you have the bottles in front of you and do the tastings or one on blind tasting new world wines based on old world style along with that old world style the new world wine is trying to copy.

I'd be curious to see you do a video about Georgian wines, since the grape varieties they use are not very common outside the ex-USSR. There are also a couple of (maybe) interesting things to compare: qvevri wines (made using 5000 year-old techniques) vs. wines made the modern way, and also dry vs. semi-sweet, since many Georgian (non-dessert) wines are supposed to have a decent amount of residual sugar in them (Kindzmarauli, Khvanchkara, Akhasheni etc. for reds) They also have lots of orange wines, which I haven't seen on this channel yet.

Jay and Peter - please can you make a video on how you serve white and red wine - specifically around the temperature and glass. So this weekend I had 2 specific events . First event - I tried to have a gran reserva Rioja in a burgundy glass!! To my surprise it gave me a terrible oaky nose , almost very pungent. I then went back to my standard glass and it just felt better. Second event - I left the same bottle in the fridge and I am having it again today (the next day). It tastes better and better as it gets warmer. It was just not great on the palate when it was cooler than what it is supposed to be. Well- anything around this will be greatly appreciated.

I don't drink any alcohol but I'm a big fan of classical music. Sometimes I get asked how someone who dives into the depths of sound could ever enjoy a rock or pop song? My answer is always as follows: if you stick to pop music nobody will judge you aside from yourself If you will prefer it. Classical music has the "magic" to grab you and pull you through a world full of dramaturgy, experience, deep feelings and joy. It's a big sadness if someone had not the abbility to experience it in its full glory. However that experience will not and never will take away a song, YOUR song which gets you in a good mood. Just enjoy your life. Nobody forces you to do anything that you don't like. I guess that's similar to wine tasting!
