Performance Harley bagger builds just make perfect sense, a Harley bagger is the last Harley you'll ever have to buy so why not put some money into it? You can literally have it all with a Harley bagger, you can get sport bike handling, incredible brakes, plush suspension and still take this thing across the country loaded down with gear. You're truly only limited by what you put it into it. It's not all motor though when it comes to a performance Harley bagger, getting the right suspension can actually make the stock power more useable. Then from there we can move onto getting the power in the engine pumped up to where you want it to be!

What order do you prefer to build your bagger in? Do you go with the motor work first, get the suspension done, or even worry about brake upgrades?

I bought a sweet used twin cam . With the money I saved buying a used bike, I sent the bike to Baxters Garage and had everything you’ve mentioned done one shot including LED’s all around with the front and rear cameras. This took a year to do during the Covid parts shortage era. I paid as he went. Very easy guy to work with. Bike came out far superior than a new bike.

What kind of power did you get?

@@danfecke IDK as I don’t like dyno tuning as the bike will then always run hot so all I got is a guess as to hp. The builder says my particular build and tune will leave me aprox 110/115 hp although it feels like a lot more than that. I opted for 10:01 compression as the focus of my build was primarily dependability . HP was a secondary concern. The power comes on immediately . No need to wind it out. The engine sings. It’s was a 96 but is now a 107. He could have taken it to a 124 with around 145 hp but again my goal was dependability.

I love what you said about buying a used bagger. Here's a good example, my friend bought a used 2015 RK 103 ho 17,000 miles and had Reinhardt true duals already on it , $15,800 payments of $350 a month.... A month later I tripped across a 2006 RK cop bike, full cam chest upgrade with SE203 cams. Came with a complete service history from the police department. I gave $3000 for it . Spent another $700 getting everything serviced and registered. No it's not exactly the same bike. I can throw $10,000 at Sam (my RK) and still be under what the newer one cost. The price difference only gets bigger when you go up in models. Not to mention the payments.

Went for the engine 1st. Cams 510c Aircleaner and exhaust/pipes. Next was a 124 wirh Cases 640s and larger Heads. 10kmls later Injection, a 56/58mm with 6.2gr Injectors and bigger Aircleaner. Up til there i experemented a bit mysel on the Powervision. But didn ´t want to leave HP unfed, went to a Tuner. Result was i had 135 by my Tune and he made it to a 145HP on the wheel.The Clutch is a Barnett Scorpion, played with the Springs around, like the middle ones. Next Step was front Wheel changed to 19 Enforcer, mine was a Wagon Wheel in 16 as they come.Discs from Drag Specialities, cheap and pretty good. The Fork works much better now, guess the Balloontire ate the Infos from the Street that the Fork needed. Next Step will be Shocks. And possibly a better Tune for cool Engine. So far 25kmls on the Engine. Ran it in a long Time, had a lot of Pressure in the Engine shot the Level Stick out every Time i went for 4500Rpms. Drilled in Dipstickcover, fixed a Tube on it nad this Way gave the Pressure a release and i would not lose the Dipstick. THe Solution was the bigger Injection. No more sumping. Had my INfos from KZbin to know what to look for, and who to ask for Advise. Also a Friend wh knows a Thing or two about General Engine Building. Wish you all a safe Ride all the Way

On my '95 Electra Glide Classic I am working the suspension first since it has 97,000 miles one. I have a leak in the front air shocks in the forks, but it is probably just fitting. I am doing a mild build, nothing fancy. Then I will turn to the engine with a cam and slight increase in compression with some KB pistons, then probably port the heads or send them to Dave Mackie. I want to ride this bike for another 20 years which will put me in my 70s. Then we'll see from there.

Suspension was done on my bike before I took delivery on it. Running legends front and rear, and it makes the biggest difference. After I got it home, I threw a set of FXR Division Motorwitch bars on it. Installs like apes, but has more of a T-bar feel. Since it doesn't use a new triple upper, you don't get quite the handling of say a Thrashin or Kraus setup, but it's good.

I own a 2016 Ultra Limited. I bought it used a year and a half ago and have just recently started to modify it from stock. I'd like to be working on the performance but for now I'm concentrating on the comfort features. I've installed: a Reach seat cause I'm vertical challenged, I installed 10" Paul Yaffe Monkey Bars, I just ordered an adjustable riders backrest, and I changed out Harley's worthless Infotainment system for a SOUNDSTREAM Reserve HDHU14si head unit, 6.5" speakers in the fairing and in the tour pack. But when I start to work on the performance side I'll probably start out with the Stage One mods. Maybe look at TAB 4 or 4.5" exhaust with Zombie baffles, and a nice Arlen Ness air cleaner or something else cause I really haven't looked into them. Then maybe change our the stock cam for a Woods 222 or who knows. I really appreciate the information you give in your videos, thank you. Keep the shiny side up and the rubber to the pavement. 🛣️

I built my bike in the following order The first thing I added with stainless steel brake rotors and a high revving 113" motor(welded crank ,gear driven 67 g Andrews cams, high performance oil pump, CNC heads super e carb and a 3.15 primary gear change.) I then rebuilt my original st suspension. And added a wider set of tires. 2001 Roadglide ST.

That's what I'm talking about! That's the way to do it! It's way cheaper that way, you get all that done for way less than the cost of a stock new motorcycle!

@@GixxerFoo I also added a oil cooler and the extra qt. Oil pan w frame brace. But now I'm starting to get old and fall apart and I'm probably going to turn it into a trike next. Probably a hannigan independent limited slip wide track.

@@randylucas2458 AT 85 MPH , I’m at 3200 RPM. I’m about to change the factory cam I think is Harley’s 263 cam I believe came in the Screaming Eagle, 103 engine, I’m undecided on which one cam S&S 570 or the Star Cycle 577. So far I’ve been beating 114 engines with the Sceaming Eagle tuner, air, breather, and exhaust slip on‘s, and full exhaust systems. 😎

The worst part of my bike (2012 Road King) is the rear suspension. Just horrible in every way. I have ohlins fork inserts and they are amazing, rear is after market but just shit. Saving for some Hd357 Ohlins.

I did legends suspension first. I’m getting ready to do cam, intake and throttle body. No sense building and engine up without having a good suspension to put the power to the ground.

Buddy just put a Star 30/30 in there..great bump. Fuel milage suffered -a lot . I’m gonna stick with the SE torque cam along with nice headers/mufflers and dyno it. I eat miles in mine so it will give me a nice bump and maintain some mpg . Suspension is coming for the front. Legends Revo A in the back. Just don’t know what a decent match is up front unless Legends $$. If I can just do springs and improve the front I will. Just don’t know what brands etc.

Suspension.. last year rears… as of this week fronts (both Legend). Brake pads in front will be changed by myself next week. Bought a ‘22 RGL and had dealer put a Stage II in right away. Debating a 135 kit next year, but might be too rich for my blood.

I'd like to hear more about upgrading triple clamp, increasing the rake
@GixxerFoo
@GixxerFoo 3 ай бұрын
Upgrading the triple clam is where you really get serious, usually doing that you want to decrease rake which makes that front end a lot snappier. Then the front wheel size comes into play, this is why the first year of Honda's CBR 900RR in the 90's was a death machine for the inexperienced who got a hold of one. No rake to speak of with a 16 inch wheel, that sucker turned so fast and snappy it got a lot of people hurt.

The HD ST.... The guys that have built baggers know how unperformance that bagger is... A real build is better off buying a standard and building it, hands down. My 16 SG is done, its been a long list, time and alot $$ NOT spent on anything from HD throwawayparts... BUT its humbled a few crotchrocketeers in the twisties and always a smile from my tire guy when he pulls my tire off a bagger wheel with no chicken strips.

Big wheel baggers are dumb, choppers are dumb... finally the performance culture taking over Harley that started with FXRs, then Dynas, now baggers just makes sense. Once you own a bagger, just hold onto it and make the performance changes that work for you. It doesn't make sense to buy a new Road Glide every two years unless you just don't like having money.

I spent $1500 this winter and that was just to make it safe again. I think people either make too much $$$, or they just spend $$$ with no credit or priorities. Me thinks me is poor.

If you're gonna make it go fast, you better have the brakes to slow it down. And those are very dependent on your suspension. Choose wisely 😉
