Very 'old school' sounding amp that is ideal for a bedroom. I rather approve, as most modern amps are way to complicated whereas this forces you to think how you are going to get the sound you want from very basic controls . Of course it helps to be able to play as well as you Shane !

at 1:50 you start picking with a chord progression, ive heard it in another video when you were doing a mustang vs super reverb A/B, and i dig it, do you have a full length song based with that progression?
@lifeofalex91994 жыл бұрын
I think you should put the decibel meter closer to ear height. Sound dissipates with distance. Even your phone speakers will read over 100db if you place the meter close enough to the speaker. Your speaking voice should only be about 65-70db so if you could talk over it then the 85db reading on the low power mode sounds like a misreading to me. Love your videos!

@@arp4709 I haven't tried it with chorus...just compression which didn't work well and reverb which sounds good. A lot depends on the speaker, it sounds a lot better with ceramic than alnico to my ears but I never thought alnico speakers sound good in isolation anyway...too chimey and hollow.

That sounds similar to what I have been dreaming of, a tiny ersatz Fender Twin maybe. Five watts can be plenty loud, seems like it should be enough. I'd rather a paint-by-numbers with someone else's circuit however, or buy one prebuilt.

As far as sound quality goes, this runs circles around the wangs mini amps even the mini mono price amps... as far as single digit watt amps go... this is one of the best... it's on my list, this will especially be great after tube rolling!
@andrewgarcia31362 жыл бұрын
nah it's about on par with the monoprice/stage right/harley benton tube 5 - what you are hearing is the difference between running into a cheap speaker in a small cab vs a decent 2x12. the tube 5 isn't the same circuit and won't sound the same through this cab but it would be a fair fight at least.

From Leo: Good Demo. That looks and sounds like a great little amp. The 12AX7 with a EL84/6BQ5 has been a good combination for 50 years. It should be durable. It would be nice if they made a lunchbox tube amp of maybe 40-50 watts for guitarists to gig with.

I wish someone would make a small amp like this with a rectifier tube, or a rectifier socket so you could choose between a solid state rectifier or a tube one.
@VintageSG6 жыл бұрын
Wangs manufacture a 5 Watt head with switchable rectification. It's a Class AB amp using a 12BH7 power valve, 6Z4 rectifier or diode rectification and the usual complement of 12AX7's for gain, tone stack and a cathodyne phase inverter.For simple, single ended amps such as this, valve rectification makes no practical difference. The output stage is constantly conducting, so there's no load variance to cause sag.

Yes, they did demonstrate some weakness in the excessive headroom department, apparently the 5TH doesn't djent. Perhaps Harley-Benton could do something similar with a 5881 biased to about 20 watts and shut them down. :)

Why most of the amp bloggers they are not considering the cabinet speaker (max watts) they are using for every head amp they are introducing in their blog. FYI amp head + cabinet proper match up is very important to us, so we know exactly the correct type of cabinet speaker max wattage for every amp head model.
@andrewgarcia31362 жыл бұрын
