Harley Davidson 2016 Fat Bob first ride review.
Ok so this is my review of the 2016 Fat Bob, I must admit this HD could be my next bike and during the review I cannot control my excitement about this.
Overall the Street Bob I believe is a fantastic package however the cost including the upgrades that I want to do is racking up. Therefore I will need to wait until next year for this bike.
excuse some of the bloopers and the odd interruption from the HD Shaw team - lol.

I have a 2016 fat bob, it is super smooth on acceleration and the gear box is great. On the motorway at 70mph and over you do get fatigue on the arms with the wind blast so i bought an after market black fly screen and it works perfectly cost £199. Love the bike but not keen on the stripes on the Tank. Riding in the rain or wet roads is fine but the dirt kicks up every were so regular cleaning required. Nuts and bolts dont like the winter or wet weather. I find my right foot slips off the foot peg going over bumpy roads and also have to twist my foot to stay on the peg as the air box is agianst your leg causing a slight angle but you only feel this when youve been in the saddle for a while. the seat is fantastic and I would highly recommend this bike to anyone. Brian

Really great how you're so honest about your reviews. It's also fun to watch because you're SO enthusiastic and really enjoy the ride. Yea, it seems like there's no way you could leave the bike at the dealership after watching the review you seem to love it so much but that's the fun part. I can't speak for anybody but myself but for me it makes me excited to go out and take one of my Harleys for a rip!!! Like right now!! Haha. Keep up the great reviews mate! Ryan

Had a 2015 Sportster 48, now have a 2014 Fat Bob. Loved the 48, looked fantastic. Big issue was ground clearance and lean angle. I have very good twisty roads where I live. I spent more time worrying about scraping the ground than just enjoying the ride. The fat Bob is a little bit faster even though it is bigger and heavier than the Sportster, (but not by much). Biggest advantage the Fat Bob has over the Sporty is ground clearance and lean angle. If you like cruiser bikes, this year Dyna Fat Bob is a pleasure to ride.

This is my second time watching this vlog on your review of the Fat Bob. I have a 2014 Fat Bob and every time I ride it I fall deeper in love with it. I have not done any long distance riding but got one planned this month. The Fat Bob is the most underestimated bike in the Harley inventory in my personal opinion. It's a fun bike and handles awesome.

Now you go and put a post up like that and you have me doubting myself again!! Urghhh Great post and review yet again. Well done

Ha ha ha ... I know fella even I'm confused. In all honesty the bikes I've test reviewed apart from the street I would personally buy. The only reason I wouldn't buy the street is in their price bracket you have more choice in the market for that type of bike... The trouble with the Fat Bob is for the way I would like it, the cost would be around 16 k!!!! A lot of money... Anyway I'm still really happy with my 48 buddy. Thanks for the continued support George👍

+Motonewbrider yeah I have the same issue..I can go up to 16k but my head tells me if I buy a 48 I can mod it up a bit more than what I can with the fatbob.. I even looked at the streetbob also... I can choose a car bloody easy, but trying to choose which Harley???? Keep up the good work dude..

I have to tell you guys; I am only 5;10-ish depending on the particular pair of boots; but I'm a big guy and the forty-eight is crap compared to the FatBob. don't get me wrong i had a forty-eight but literally everything about it felt discouraging. the small tank and thin seat discouraged long rides, the rake and thick tire and low low pegs discouraged turning the bike into a corner; the 1200 motor feels either on or off. I went and test rode a FatBob and the following spring i got a 2016 new. It's the most comfortable, smooth, most communicative, best handling Harley from the factory, period. if your legs are short like mine (under 32" Inseam) they have reduced-reach forward controls; and if you need more than that there's reduced reach seats, and even further you can always swap over to Mids; the Mounting points are right on the frame. Just keep in mind this is a 700lb bike so pushing it around the garage isn't fun, but once you get a little throttle and clutch into her lovely twin-cam she;s light on her feet and as nimble as a bike half her size.

Great review. I just bought a 2016 Fat Bob about 3k miles ago and have the exact same setup you described. Long shots and stock air box with K&N filter and V&H fuelpak which REALLY makes the bike even more amazing! I came really close to getting the 48 but after riding the Fat Bob I was sold. The only (very) minor criticism would be that with the vibration, wind and peg placement, your boots tend to slide off at speeds over 75. Down in San Antonio, Texas, lots of open highways to open her up... Ride safe!

I went from a 2015 Sportster 48 to a 2014 FatBob, both forward controls. The forward controls were about the same reach. Both bikes were very ride able. The Bob was bigger and heavier (obviously) but also had a much better lean angle. I ride a lot of twisty roads. The 48 ruined my ride because I always knew I couldn't make sharp turns, I was always dragging the pegs. The Fatbob has a fantastic lean angle and I have more fun riding it in the twistys. The 48 though, is still a very cool bike.

I have the 2017 dyna fat bob. made a few changes to make it mine.Progressive 444 shocks on the rear and progressive springs in the front. Bear trap footpads from the states to keep your foot in place at speed, slip on V&H pipes, FP3 tuner and roland sands air cleaner. might go for some burley apes and light conversion. we will see. Soooooo Comfy!!

Had a fat bob for a couple of years. Loads of fun scraping the pegs on roundabouts. Engine is an absolute peach, standard rear shocks are abysmal, wallowed like he'll on switchbacks. I'd love another dyna as theyre so enigmatic but I'd swap the rear shocks out for something decent.

The Fat Bob was the best Harley Davidson i had ridden until they brought out the Low Rider S. However i do own a Fat Bob and have a couple of videos of it. If you do make the upgrade to dyna (wise choice) i recommend stage 2 as well, it makes the engine pull like a train. Progressive monotube suspension for the front too, the stock Harley Davidson springs are soft as s***.

Yeah its a bit leaner than the fat bob but i kinda like that! I dono the fat bob is class but im leaning a bit more towards the street bob its just a bit more truer to the bobber look i think. But that just my opinion. I havent ridden either yet that'll be the final decider.

I'm in Barry, and bought a 48 from Swansea HD just over a year ago. I've swapped it for a street bob now as it was a little bit small. I love the street bob, have you tried one?

+Paul Sawyer funny I bought my first Harley from Swansea HD ( iron ). Test ride the street Bob like it but couldn't get used to the ape bars. I'd probably go for the street Bob special edition which has the flat bars and forwards.... I actually took my wife to Barry island purely because we both loved Gavin and Stacy 😂😂👍

+Motonewbrider believe it or not I've never watched gavin and Stacey! Funny you should mention the special edition I wish I had bought that for the forward controls as I am tall and the ordinary bob only has mids. I like the mini apes though and would prefer them to the flat bars on the SE so it's 6 of 1 and half a dozen of the other. My wife and I are going down to Brightona in September for the first time. Is it any good?

The big difference between the Sportster and the Twin Cam engines, is that the Sporty uses the proven, reliable, EVOLUTION engine design with METAL GEAR DRIVE to operate the 4 cams. It also, has a bolted together crankshaft, to keep it in true. And the right side final drive belt, is easy and inexpensive to change out. On the other hand, All Twin Cam engines, such as on the Fat Boy, uses a Roller Chain Drive to operate the two cams and use two PLASTIC cam chain tensioners, which are designed to wear out as they rub against the METAL chain and failure to change out a worn, or broken tensioner shoe pad, will result in immediate, catastrophic engine failure. Also, the Twin Cam uses a pressed together crankshaft, which, on a hit or miss basis, can come out of true and crater the engine. Also, the left side, final drive belt, on the Twin Cams, are costly and time-consuming to change out and the oil pump is inadequate and the Twin Cams run much hotter, as in high heat output, compared to the reliable, Sportster. Keep the Sporty and ditch all thoughts of the Twin Cam.......two different engines......no weaknesses inherent in the Sportster, such as on the Twin Cam bikes.
