Oh I do miss my old HD Iron. It was my first Harley and I went from Hampshire to Darlington in the North East to get the one I wanted. It sounded like a sewing machine when I rode it all that way home so I quickly added Vance & Hines exhaust and Fuelpak as well as an Arlen Ness “Big Sucker” air filter. Much better and sounded not unlike this one. I loved the look of the Iron and actually added a set of Biltwell bars after watching one of your videos sir! I think they were called Frisco and they were like a mini ape hanger. Love your videos. Thank you so much for making them. I have lost count of the number of times I have followed your advice and upgraded or simply maintained one of my bikes. Thank you once again and safe riding brother. :)

This video is quick and to the point showing me all the little details only an experienced mechanic gains over time. Love the garage too. Most videos I've seen have you working in the garage at the house. Damn I wish you were here in the USA you'd definitely be my mechanic but would probably be booked solid for 3 months. Absolutely perfect on the money how to video on my exact bike. Thank you. But I didn't quite get how you did the clutch adjustment? Take out all the free play on cable then zero out the free play at the clutch? Should engine oil be checked with bike level or on side stand? Very good detail!
@Moonfleet413 жыл бұрын
Hi buddy, glad you enjoyed the video, there is a dedicated stand alone video on clutch adjustment in our playlist, it is rather old, I made it many years ago, but it's very specific and very close up and detailed, so I hope it'll help you... regarding your engine oil, the dipstick is designed to check on the sidestand if it is the specific bike in this video, but to be double sure, check in your handbook as there will be instructions in there how to check your oil... and as I'm sure you know, it's always checked hot. Here's a link to our clutch adjustment video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5_Zn6WtaNOdabc

Is idling warmup ok or does one need to ride around the block to get the engine up to a decent temp. How long should one idle it for? And I gather it’s ok to use the same oil in the primary if one is not using ATF.
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Ideally a ride of about 7 miles will get the oil right up to temp, and also the transmission too... but as i was not insured to ride this bike on the road, to idle it for 20 minutes is the next best thing.

For the oil, the same weight is used for the engine and the transmission? Amsoil offers different oils, is it wise to use the same in both places or buy amsoil gear or primary? Anyone know what’s best for the Harley Davidson iron 883?
@Moonfleet413 жыл бұрын
Harley transmission oil is for big twins... because they actually have a separate transmission oil, but with your Sportster, you have just engine oil and primary and the engine oil feeds the gearbox, so you can either run the single engine oil in both holes, or engine oil in the tank and use their primary fluid in the left side, both are good.

Why do you have to warm it up before you drain all the fluids? Surely, when it was last used 18 months ago (or however long it was since it was last run) it was warm and the oil has been draining down into the sump for all that time. All you’ve done is put all that oil back around the engine. I’m genuinely interested in why that is done.
@bigpapa81524 жыл бұрын
Warm oil drains faster and carries away more impurities and crap with it than cold oil.
@900daysandcounting54 жыл бұрын
All the impurities and crap have been draining for 18 months (in this case) so if you wanted to be really thorough, would it be better to warm the sump another way. Hot air gun maybe?
