By far the best modification I have made on my bike to date. It makes riding more comfortable and convenient. If you are 5'6", with a 29" inseam (or more), know that it is possible to comfortably ride a 2013 Fat Bob with this kit (part #50700005).
Visit Harley-Davidson's online store to purchase the part:

I have been on the fence about reinstalling the mids, because my forward controls have just become uncomfortable over time. I'm just sick and tired of that reach and it isn't doing my lower back any good either, especially if I find I have to scoot up to get a really good footing. Nonetheless, I didn't really want to take the whole primary off and go through the motions of reinstalling the mids, only to remind myself why I put forwards on to begin with. Then I'm stuck in the same situation, but only now needing to extend the mids. It sounds like you were in the same boat and these really helped out. I am wondering how they have been working out for you since time has passed and you've had more riding time with them on. It would be great to get your feedback. Thanks for the video!

After 7 months with the reduced reach kit, I can say that they have really done the trick. The only time I have really felt like they could afford to move forward a little more is when riding into the wind. Only then do I struggle just a little to keep my feet up, but it's not terrible. And, frankly, I don't like riding in the wind and avoid it anyway. For around town, and short rides, they have been perfect.

So glad I came across this video, just got a 2008 fat bob and at 5'9" its a pain trying to reach the pedals comfortably. Gotta jam the fuel tank into my crotch and try to reach my leg around the air cleaner to hit the brake. As soon as the video was over I went and ordered the kit.

That's great! It doesn't seem like such a little thing would make a difference, but I know it did for me. Hopefully it does the same for you. At least it's reasonably priced an easy to install. The one thing I'd have done differently is remove the exhaust mufflers. Sometimes they're difficult to remove, also, but it's really tight for space in there. Best of luck to you! 🤓👍🏽

@@tammykramp1502 so it moves it back about 1 1/2 to 2 inches but at the same time it also pivots the pedals closer so it actually brings the pedal even closer. I went from feeling like I was stretching and borderline unsafe to now feeling like I have extra room and reach with ease. If you're having trouble and don't want to switch to mid controls this is hands down worth every penny.

Great questions. I ended up with the Fat Bob for a variety of reasons. I mention a bunch on this video: kzbin.info?o=U&video_id=UVon0Q-4p2Y I did ride several other models before I chose the FXDF, my favorite being the Lowrider S. The FXDLS was a little out of my price range, though, so this bike was just right for me. I also got a really good deal, and the styling was just what I was looking for. And, I would absolutely do it over again.

Pleased that your ride is a bit more comfy now. I am also 5.6 & just measured my inseam (do you do that down to the bottom of your foot? Well i did) and that comes out about 28/29". Yesterday picked-up my brand new 48, OMG it is such a beautiful bike, I can reach the forward controls ok but it is a tad of a stretch. It'll have to do though i am not up to doing mods myself and it's so expensive at HD! I put on my custom seat which is a bit lower than the stock so i'll have to see if that helps. By the way you look super cool on that Fat Bob (nicer than the new ones i think), thanks

Hey glad to find another vertically challenged rider like myself. Have you ever tried mid controls? I've got mids on my street bob but i wanna see if the reduced reach would be too long or try the further forward mids. Any ideas? around 5'6 with a 30' inseam
@thatoneguymoto
@thatoneguymoto 7 жыл бұрын
I'm the same height with the same inseam, so you should be good with the reduced reach forward controls. Also, if you get a reduced reach saddle, that'll put you that much further forward. My first two bike were mid controls, but I've converted to the forward, and can't see myself moving back. What year Street Bob are you riding?

Glad I read the comments. I love my forward controls as they are. People have even said that it looks like the bike was. Custom fit for me. I'm 5'7" 30" in seam. I was wondering how tall you were. So the pegs didn't get closer, just changed the angle of the brake pedal and shifter to bring them in closer from what I understand. Since I never have a passenger (wife won't ride) I got some mid leg mounts from a friend that converted his wide glide to forward controls. Then I took the passenger pegs and moved them up so now on long trips I've got options to move my feet. I just have to remember to flip them up when i stop or they mess me up big time! Oh, Ariat makes a great motorcycle boot with a cleat in the sole of the boot to help grab the forward control pegs while you ride.

Got my reduced reach controls installed. Pretty easy. Was easier to take off the mufflers. Check these Kuryakyn mini floorboards out. photos.app.goo.gl/1NS1zf6ZZZ2gcAwDA They are adjustable rearward and can change the angle. Easy install and not too big and don't stick out further than pegs. I extended the brake pad out and also the shifter peg. photos.app.goo.gl/yW6okAa1REuDizoc7

Nicely done! For me, taking off the mufflers would just be two extra steps. It was easier (not easy) to just work around them. Thanks for sharing! Do you have a link to where someone might purchase those mini floorboards if they wanted to?

www.jpcycles.com/product/zz38091/kuryakyn-gloss-black-premium-mini-floorboard?v=1 Lots of suppliers have Kuryakyn parts, I got them at JP Cycles. Ya for me it was so much easier to thread and adjust with the mufflers off. But it isn't impossible with them on. When on the jack the access is even more limited because the jacking point is right under the Master cylinder.
