The heel/toe shifter is one of the reasons why I like so much my Street Glide. It is so easy to change gear, gives that classic feeling when riding and doesn't damage your shoes. I will have somebody manufacture one for my Bonneville T100 similar to the Honda SS50 or Honda Dax. I love it so much. For me this is a downgraded.

Agreed. I bought my first Harley in 2001 and within 5 miles I fell in love with the heel/toe shifter. No doubt Delboy has some great skills and did a fantastic job on this elimination, but for me it would also be a downgrade.

I do love these videos but I did find this one to be a bit less than what I'm used to seeing. These spacers have been being made by dozens of companies including Harley for decades and they can be purchased from anywhere from $10.00 to $40. in hundreds of designs and materials. For people who enjoy a heel shift but have large feet there are also shifter levers made at different lengths and angles. The rubber spacer is there to eliminate rattle from metal to metal contact. I understand that in the video a plastic or Delrin was used but if you chose a metal spacer you will quickly realize why the rubber was needed.

Didn't know modern day bikes still have heal toe shifters. I had a Honda 90 many moons ago and that was a real pain in the neck to shift with work boots on! That engineering grade plastic is amazing stuff DeI I remember ( showing my age now lol) when Canon started bringing out pro spec film SLR's made out of this type of plastic there was such an out-roar with professional photographers everywhere when they had been so used to brass, magnesium and titanium in their construction. But there's progress for you and now its the norm. By the way I bought a couple of pro cameras back in the day made of this type of plastic and the amount of the abuse I gave them they never let me down! Who says you cant put a modern twist on a Classic bike good work Del.

Thanks Marc, that's an interesting tale, and you're right, this stuff is awesome! Quite expensive maybe, as when you machine it, most of it ends up in the bin as swarf, but then you can make indestructible unique parts that are more durable than metal! Have a safe week, D&Px

Not at all Nick, in fact that would be completely counter productive, this Delrin product is tough and resilient, and is actually used in many applications to prevent wear, and there is wear, because the shaft is sloppy in it's mounting hole and the spacer keeps it straight, so there are bearing forces in play here, which is why I expanded the wider end to the full width of the casting on the engine to give a greater bearing area and machined the inside to fit the shaft perfectly... it now holds it dead straight and takes out all the slop, so the cost of that is potentially wear to the engine casting and a washer rubbing on it would cause that over time, as would a metal version of the spacer, so purely the reason I chose Delrin in the first place mate...

I need a man cave like yours to work on my bike plus you can make some money selling mod parts. Lol! Nice mod to the bike! Heel shifters are gone now, Harley saving money. Enjoyed the video

Sure thing, I recently only heard this from someone who bought a 21 model StreetGlide and got no heel shifter, you're right, saving money and maximising profits aye?! And the bike's £500 more money than the year before... but heyho, it props up the residuals for the used bikes I guess!
