Recently traded in the Iron 883 for a new 2017 Harley Low Rider S! The guys knew I'd been interested in it, and I even told them I was going to the Harley dealership in our chat. I told them I didn't buy it (even though I did) so I could surprise them later, haha
I kept it a secret and we setup a meet at Orlando Harley, and then off to the Ace Cafe. Some funny reactions from the guys when I rolled up on the new bike: "Wait, his mirrors were up, not down, wth? That's not the Sportster?!"
Thanks for being good sports guys! You can take it out on Erick now for being in on the secret, haha
As always, thanks for tuning in all! Be sure to Like / Comment / Subscribe!
Till next time, you all ride safe out there, & stay vigilant!
Deuces!

I bought my Iron 883 a month and a half ago. First time riding anything at all since a teenager. Your videos convinced me to get the Iron. I outgrew it, and yesterday I had a 2017 Fat Bob delivered! LOVE IT! The Dyna family is great!

I did a hard break in as well on my 48, seating the rings and getting pressure into those cyls is key!!! Especially when the results from Hard Break-in/Easy Break-in is all over the net. Go Amsoil for a true synthetic and I've hear great thing about it, Syn3 isn't a true synthetic and it being a blend of con/syn. Congrats on the new bike man!! Two wheels down!

Hey Blockhead, long time follower! I've got a 17 FXDLS and I also work for Harley here in Australia, you definitely need to swap out that oil...but I did mine at 800km, they burn through almost 2 litres by the 1500km service, and the bike only holds about 3 haha. Check out some riser extensions too, if you want to flip your mirrors, 1.5 inch can use stock cables anything bigger and you'll need to do cables (won't get mirrors flipped with 1.5 you'd need 3+) Hope that helps and hit me up with any questions you have man Duces!!

Nice Bike man, sad to see the Iron go to a new home but I really like your Dyna. I recommend Amsoil break in oil with the zinc additives. I used that to break in my 750hp Big block Chevy 555 for my 89 firebird. Changed after cam break in, 100 miles and 500 then go to whatever you want. Would not hurt to pay extra attention to the filter too while its being broken in . Experience has told me to respect and take care of what you have and it will take care of you. Ride safe, Ride often

As to the motorcycle oil I use on my bike - Royal Purple. Been using it in my Tahoe and love it. As to the why - a great bike mechanic I know told me to use synthetic over regular oil, and nothing in any manual for my bike says otherwise. They specify 20/50 but that's it. Since I tend to do longer rides, but the majority of my time is in traffic so the engine doesn't cool down as much, I wanted an oil that is excellent at managing heat, and won't break down in such conditions. Note - RP has a specific break-in oil, as well.

I run S&S synthetic 5w20 in my 1200 custom, it is designed to resist heat burn off in larger displacement air cooled v-twins - being in Houston similar to you in FL I have been looking at doing an oil cooler upgrade as well to help with heat disapation

Hey blockhead. I too have a FXDLS. Not sure if your aware the the FXDLS has etims (engine idle temperature management system). I purchased my FXDLS new and the etims was not switched on. Being in Florida you should have it switched on. You find it in the owners manual. The manual explains how to activate it. Eitms is a accessory stock on HD touring models.

Jim Perri Cool it down quite a bit?
@builderhia
@builderhia 7 жыл бұрын
streetstunna600 yes it does. Once the engine reaches a certain temperature, eitms shuts down the rear cylinder at idle to reduce heat. It works well if your stuck in stop start traffic.

I'm in St Pete with an FXDLS with 6000mi. I turned off the rear cylinder cutout feature a couple thousand ago. I hate the knocking. According to my tuner, I never hit more than 300deg. So I just let my legs eat the heat.

Erick (does group rides w/ us) has told me about this and is a big advocate for it. I need to turn mine on already, I know I can do it through the FP3. Engine does get damn hot though, roasting the right leg especially!

I would follow the break in service intervals and instructions as noted in your owners guide, or whatever your dealer said (specifically one of the techs if they're not just a drone doing basic service) In my ride, a 1990 FLSTC, I use regular HD branded 20W50 oil. On your bike, since it's running hotter, I'd use full synthetic (unless your owners manual doesn't allow that) to maintain proper lubrication characteristics.

I was a Mobil 1 guy for a while since my Honda ricer days lol and my car friend told me to try amsoil and I gotta say I'm running it from now on ... I noticed my 48 seemed quieter off the top (sewing machine sound)... and it also just "feels" better throttle wise and shifting... idno if that's me thinking that but it's definitely quieter... kinda hard for me to find too, I only found one shop a some mile radius that carries 20-50 weight ... but my buddy told me if you can go to amsoil online u can become a member and receive a pretty good discount on bulk orders... you can hook up the crew!! p.s happy and a lil jealous of you and the FXDLS but u deserve it! Ride safe and stay vigilant on that gorgeous machine ✌️

Congratulations! I've been subscribed for just over a year and a half and during that time I had a 2010 Nightster. Did many of the same mods to mine as you did to yours and also B&B's Iron. I had traded that Nightster in for a 2015 Softail Slim since I had tried to go on longer trips I needed to upgrade. That lowrider S is sick and I wanted one bad when they were introduced in 2016 mid year. The choice of getting the Softail Slim was probably not my first pick but turned out pretty good in most aspects. That lowrider has that 110in and mine has the 103in But for me that is plenty of Hp. Keep the vids coming!

To cut some of the heat at the lights, enable the Engine Idle Temperature Management System (EITMS). `How To' starts on page 66 of the owners manual: ownersmanuals2.com/harley-davidson/low-rider-s-2016-owner-s-manual-66863/page-66 "When engine temperature reaches a pre determined point, the EITMS turns off the rear cylinder fuel injector. Idle speed is maintained, however the rear cylinder becomes an "air pump" which works to cool the engine." It's a very funky idle when it kicks in, but keeps your leg from baking. Also, word from the Motor Company on what oil to run, including some home brew mixes using diesel oils is the Good Book too.

streetstunna600 you have any problems with the front brakes being squishy? Like half way back to get firm? And I think I might be getting a little oil weeping from the front rocker box cover.

Black Eagle They felt a little squishy at first but have firmed up since. I've noticed that quite a few owners have mentioned this as well. If it's leaking I would take it right back to the dealer!

streetstunna600 they just had it for three weeks trying to figure the brakes out changed everything then harley got ahold of them and wanted them to bleed them differently. It helped but still not the way I want them. Only have like 3-400 miles on it. I wasn't sure about the oil was wiping it down after the rain and think it was oil. Will have to ride it some more.

+Black Eagle yeah man, the brakes should get better. Mine were terribly squishy when I got it.
