That's a good tip with burping the air out of the drain line. I will definitely be doing that on my next oil change. One thing that I like to do, especially with that high dollar synthetic is to put the cap on the bottle after pouring the oil into the oil tank and stand them all up on the cap of the oil bottle. You will get a good bit of oil that drains down to the cap on all 4 bottles when you do an oil and transmission fluid change if you use 20w50. I end up with a good bit of oil that I pour back into the partially used bottle. Thanks again for the tips, Rocco!

Hello Rocco I’m so glad i found your page. You explain things really well and I can tell you love what you do. Let me get to the question and I usually don’t do this but I gota ask you cause you’re the man! I have a 2012 Nightstand 1200Cc and I did 2 oil changes so far and the were both almost disasters. 1st oil change I didn’t properly tighten the oil cap and it shot 10ft in the air 3x until I went on KZbin and closed it correctly. 2nd oil change I drained the oil on a very cold bike and then put 2 qts and started the bike for a check and the oil started leaking from the oil cap side to even the battery side. Big mess again. I’m gona follow your way to do it now. Thanks a lot

@ You’re a good man Rocco, you helped me a lot. Today I went to AutoZone and bought 1qt of Mobil 1 75W-90 gear lube, and 3 qts of Mobil 1 20W-50 V-Twin Synthetic oil. They didn’t have a K&N-170 oil filter ( I left my previous filter ) I got back to my garage and like you said warmed the bike up and then I did the oil change and primary gear oil change. It was almost perfect. I even saw the AIR come out by letting the new oil drain for a few seconds. Rocco gd bless you and thank you Sincerely Daniel From Kings Highway Brooklyn NY

@TwoWheelRocco5 жыл бұрын
straight up & down.
@bigblue35684 жыл бұрын
On the Jiffy stand aka kick stand per the owners manual. 2.8 qts is the correct capacity but in reality a couple of ounces will remain in the engine after complete drain. Perform a HOT engine oil check which is taken at operating temp so take it for a ride not a simply start up and idle for a minute then check.

Great video. My question to you is - do you ever take your derby cover off to drain the oil from there?
@TwoWheelRocco5 ай бұрын
Happy to help. The only time you remove that derby cover is on your transmission and Primary oil change on a sportster, you have your engine oil which is the 20/50 on the left side is your primary oil which feeds your transmission and your primary and Clutch. so when you do the Primary oil change then you remove that cover unless you have an inspection window on the primary side, just remove the fluid through the plug at the bottom and put the fluid in through that inspection window if there is one. @@TwoWheelRocco Manual & air pocket oil tube purge. When you put the oil cap on, there is tons of air in the system, I wonder where that air goes? I agree. But it does state this in the manual to purge the bottom line. They state air pocket to go through that oil pump. But I agree with you. Harley Davidson just making it difficult. So you won't do the work. But it is easy to prime the air out of the bottom of the hose. Do I think it's needed, no. Thank you for watching and your sub E C. Ride safe and have a great day. The air pocket in the line is at the bottom that's where your feeds lines go to your oil pump. The top air will never get in the system. These are dry sump motors there's no oil in the bottom of your motor like your car. So they do have a point that if that air pocket got to the pump it could be a problem because it is at the bottom that feeds the oil to your pump in your motor. I don't believe you could ever happen.
