That's what I needed! Thanks for the how-to. BTW, pull the 50 AMP fuse under the left side cover before attempting battery cable disconnection. Helps avoid shorting out any fuses and accidental sparking.

this video saved me. I had gotten to the battery but could not pull it out. the strap had slipped down in the hole and I didn't even know it existed. other videos seemed to have skipped over that part. I used long pliers to fish it out and was able to then lift up the battery. now I have it taped to the top of the new battery so I won't have to fish for it.

Great idea. Going to do the same. Thanks

Thanks!! I couldn’t figure out how to get the plastic thing off the top of the battery!! Works the same way on a 2009 fltr. I’m an old biker, bought this bike used, have two other older H-D’S and was amazed at the CRAP the factory crammed under the seat!! Thanks again!!👍🏼👍🏼

What I would remind everyone is to take off the negative (-) cable first. If you don't and start removing the positive cable first and your screwdriver comes into contact with anything negative, such as the frame or brackets you will short the battery if it even has a little juice left in it. The same for putting in the new battery, reverse the order. Connect the negative terminal LAST. One other suggestion. It's difficult to get a grip on the battery to lift it out even with the strap. After removing the cables, put the screws partway back into the terminals.That will give you something to hold onto the battery and keep it straight as you pull up on the strap.

Subtracting cables, negative first. Adding cables, positive first. This is my little trick for never forgetting the sequence.
@rednecktech827 ай бұрын
I call bs. We've all been taught that but I get arcing on all batteries (so not a vehicle issue) no matter what cable is connected or disconnected first.
@dh23927 ай бұрын
@@rednecktech82 so what do you think could happen if while disconnecting the positive terminal, your wrench slips and touches metal and the battery is still grounded. Remove negative first, put it back on last.
@rednecktech827 ай бұрын
@@dh2392 what!? + disconnected...so NOT connected to battery but still attached to the starter solenoid...and you bump it on metal?...nothing, nothing will happen lol.

By the way, thank you, My bike wasn't exactly like your video but I was able to figure it easily. The hardest part was getting that damn plastic cover off the top of the battery. LOL And, my 2011 ultra didn't have the nice battery lift strap. That would have been nice. Nonetheless, you helped me so I do say thank you.

why not hook up a quick connect cable for a battery tender?! Why go through this in and out every yr?
@rednecktech82 Жыл бұрын
Worse, the bike comes with a preinstalled hookup! This vid is also for removing if/when the battery needs replaced but...I take batteries out of about 6 different things and put them all in my basement on a tender...just easier than running bunch of ext. cords etc plus I only have a couple tenders so I rotate the batteries on what I have.
@gcragg11 Жыл бұрын
@@rednecktech82 oh… ha! Ya … thought it should. Between me and my bro in law I service about 18 batteries a yr. So I’ve been adding the quick connect cables to everything. The Harleys all had them so I thought that yours should as well Take care and thanks for the vid 😊👍
