I had 1 inch lowering blocks installed on my 09 SG and didn't notice any difference in the handling. In fact I used that bike to participate in a precision motoring class [similar to a police motors course] with no issues and the bike also drives well at high speeds too.

Your tire rub on fender with no air in shocks? J put 1" lowering blocks on 2020 Street glide with standard jcbaggers adjustable air ride kit.. So I'm now trying 3/4" covington blocks.

I haven’t had any issues with tire rub yet and I am running the stock Harley shocks. I do hope to change those out soon and when I do I will probably go with progressive

I tried something similar to this and had a horrible experience, bike shock so bad I was afraid to go any further, I had only gone a mile on the highway,hope these are better , just an fyi

These kits have been installed for years. My feedback is if you install one the bike may handle different. You are closer to the ground. That means that you may drag parts earlier than before on your leans in turns. So for your first few rides make sure you know your bike. When exhaust or footpegs drag our first action is to lean less. That turn you normally take at 45 you are now in the other lane or trying to keep it out of the ditch. One inch isnt a lot but it will change the way it acts. Of course 2 up can be a different ride. Yogi got any feedback on the way it rides now?

Chuck Habrack honestly it doesn’t feel much different. Touring bikes sit high and unlike dropping the Fatboy it hasn’t changed the ride much. I dropped the Fatboy years ago and that definitely changed the ride. I can’t take turns near as fast on that bike as it drags in corners bad so I need to slow the roll going into corners in it big time. For the ultra not so much it seems. My feet are flat now and it still feels comfortable but I have yet to drag. We will see what happens as soon as I go 2up.

@@YogisCycleService Sometimes its those things that may not be thought about. I lowered my Shovel but that was during the rebuild before I really ever rode it. I learned its character as a lowered bike. The good thing about that kit is its not permanent. If you need to adjust for 2 up its less than 15 minutes to swap. I saw the video.

Laying the shock back (more angle) actually softens the springing and gives a bit more travel which obviously makes the handling feel different so don’t forget to reset the sag... good for some, bad for others.

I bought a used bike and was wondering why it was bottoming out when i went two up and after looking at your video, i noticed he had put the exact same lowering kit as yours. I took them off and all is well now. Up for sale is a beautiful set of lowering blocks. lol

I am thinking of using a convington lowering kit. There has been mixed reviews on the subject especially while 2up? I take it your bikes have never bottomed out at 2up?

Awesome video the only issue I got from the video was at first you said 31 1/2" and after you put the lowering kit on your bike you stated that you measured 31 1/4" and now the measurement is 30 3/8" meaning it was lowered 1 1/8"

Thanks for the video. I'm thinking of doing the same thing to my 06 Road King. Did you have any issues with the side stand after lowering your bike? I had a 87 FXR that I lowered 1.5 inches and I had to put a shorter side stand on it because otherwise it sat so straight up I was afraid someone would bump the bike and knock it over...

Should measure fender to your lift not the floor,, soon as you dropped your lift , measurements changed. Come on brother. Now I gotta watch til the end or til you measure again. Lol Anyway thanks for the work your putting in.

I would suggest maybe shocks that are 1” shorter then stock coupled with a seat that puts you lower in the saddle. Those 2 things combined should make a big difference

Hello, I have a 2006 harley davidson electra glide classic (Not the ultra) And have put on the lowering kit brackets and ended up having rubbing issues under the fender. The wiring for the turn signal and brake lights got rubbed raw, and the under side of my fender showed rubbing signs on it as well. I was wondering if you have had any rubbing issues? If so, what might help prevent that? I only lowered it 2 inches as that was more than enough for me.

Hey my man thank you for the post. I lowered my ultra 1" and I have not had any rubbing issues. I will say this however, I did lower my softail about 1 1/2" and ran it that way for a long time and one day my stock shocks after 80,000 miles on them decided it was time to wear out. When that happened the bike had more "sag" in it then what I would consider normal and I did start to get rubbing issues inside the fender with the wiring but most notably was the belt. The belt started rubbing on the starter shaft and luckily I caught it early enough to save the belt. Had I not been diligent on looking it would have eaten up the belt pretty quickly.

I purchased a kit similar to this one in the clip but there is all sorts of extra smaller bolts and washers. My kit came with no instructions.

Chuck Habrack. Is a very smart man. I've been at it for decades. The bike will change is a fact . Harley in many ways sucks, but they know how to build bikes. Bottom line anytime you lower a bike you give up performance there's no way around it. If just like to putt around its ok. We all like to have our cake and eat it at the same time....in this case its impossible your will have sacrifice performance for stance

Peter Smith yes they do. Upper stud or bolt 70-85ft/lb. Upper shock retaining nut (if so equipped) 35-40ft/lb Lower shock retaining nut/bolt 35-40ft/lb Blue threadlocker

Engineers designed a specific geometry for the shocks to be mounted at. By using devices such as these, the shocks will be damaged, along with ill handling.

noooooooooooooooo 🙄😱😬this is NOT how to lower a bike. first its best not to lower bc it changes handling and lean angle but if you must, you don’t use cheap blocks and lowering kits - it changes the angle of the shocks…. bad bad bad advice. Get shorter shocks like Legend or Ohlins (or even progressive) but do NOT do this cheap fix.

@@YogisCycleService well first of all I am not a man. second- when you lower a bike, it is closer to the ground so when you lean you lose a fee degrees before a part will touch. same if you use blocks or shocks -simple high school geometry. however, shocks don’t change the angle of the spring and lower blocks change the angle and compromise the shock. guess you like a lot of straight line riding but not sure of your ridership with these comments. Looks like you just want to shade tree mechanic on the cheap. Secondly to address your high school geometry comment again I will state how is a lowering block different from a 1" shorter shock? Lastly to address your final comment I have been riding now for 30 years and have over 160,000 miles on motorcycles, 20,000 of those on these lowering blocks and I have had zero handling issues with them and no I do not just ride in a straight line. I live in NC and frequent the mountains quite often. I have progressive shocks on the rear and honestly really enjoy the way this bike is set up. So, no, I am not a newbie rider. I appreciate the back and forth however and will watch the video you referenced. Personally I think this is similar to a synthetic vs dinosaur oil debate or the even more dreaded darkside tire debate. You know the whole your bike will blow up and you will die if you put a car tire on your bike debate. Ha ha if you want to challenge me on that I have a video for that too because yes I run darkside on this bike also

@@TinyDragon Watched the video, all I can say is with 20,000 miles on my blocks and I am not a spring chicken, I have had 0 issues with my shocks bending like that. Was that problem from the blocks? or a defective shock? I dont know but if I end up with the same problem down the road I will follow up with a video on it. Till then I am going to keep rocking my setup because its been just fine. Appreciate your concern and you have inspired me actually. I am going to do some research and a follow up video to this one talking about the pros and cons. Thank you

Worst thing ever for lowering a bike. Look up Doc Harley on lowering shocks. You'll see a customers bike has this junk in it and shock is almost folded in half. Because..... when on this crap lowering kit the shock can't cylinder. It flex's. Cheap product. Expensive repair.
