According to H-D. 2013s Annual Report: "6 out of 10" customers, are from "emerging markets", which is double speak for 3rd world, countries, thus the introduction, of the entry level street 500 and 750 -liquid cooled, bikes, and a H-D, factory in India........H-D, is not an American corporation, just based here......they are a multi-national corporation. So, much for their image of being an All American, Icon........when most of their customers are not even in this country......

Q: Why are Harleys some of the safest bikes on the road? A: Cause they don't go fast enough to get hurt on.

Check out those SHOWA, front forks, great, right? They are made in Japan......a supplier of Harley front forks for more than 30 years, rice burner front forks on all Harleys. That is why they are 43mm, not in American Standard sizing. The alloy wheels come from Australia and the electrical components and brakes come from Italy, where they are made. Only the engines are made in America........the bike is "assembled", in America, by, hired foreign workers, who replaced the fired American employees, who trained their lower cost replacement workers, in a major restructure in 2014, which laid off 25% of the American workers. Failure to train their replacements, would affect the laid off workers severance pay.......

+tomcata1467 Looks like if they took more pride in their work and made a better product ,more people would buy them which means Harley Davidson could afford to keep manufacturing here in America.

One should remember the US isn't their only market, and out sourcing cheaper for them to sell overseas which has become a very big customer base for them.

As I surf the internet to catch up with the latest Harley Davidson news, I noticed there is unjustified criticism of this brand. Most of the negative remarks stems from the fact that the people making them are out of touch. For example, Harley Davidson aren't any different and they just repackage the same product. This exemplifies someone who clearly doesn't know what their talking about. On the surface, it may look the same. But, Harley Davidson does an excellent job in concealing technology so it will be appealing to their riders. Underneath the surface, Harley Davidson is as modern as their competitors. Another common complaint is that Harley Davidson isn't capable of designing a performance driven bike. Enter the world of the VROD, it has one hundred and twenty five horsepower and eighty eight foot pounds of torque. This leads me to the next misnomer that Porsche developed the VROD engine. Wrong, the VROD motor is based off of the VR1000 super bike. The power plant was designed and engineered from a collaborative effort between Harley Davidson and Porsche. Both companies took part in this project, not solely Porsche. Finally, the inaccuracy is that Harley Davidson doesn't have the capability of producing anything except cruisers and touring bikes. Here is my one word answer Live wire. Before people shoot their mouth off, it would behoove them to educate themselves rather than making obnoxious and unwarranted remarks.

Lots of PLASTIC inside that 110 CID TC engine.......it has two roller chain drives, one for each of the two cams.......and the small PLASTIC tensioners are a wear item, designed to wear out and have to be replaced, periodically. Failure to change them out will cause METAL TO METAL contact between the hydraulic tension holder and the roller chain, causing the induction of metal shavings into the crankcase, and oil pump and cylinders and cratering the engine, immediately. The roller chain drives also tend to stretch and affect the timing of the cam/valves. The crankshaft on this engine is only pressed together and can twist out of true and cause the output shaft and pinion shaft to "wobble" excessively, more than the factory set run-out, tolerance, of 0/001" or less. As the twist occurs, the shafts will begin to wobble more and more and at 0.003" of run out, it begins to damage all the bushings, bearings, in the engine and eventually it will crater the engine. CAVEAT EMPTOR- "LET THE BUYER BEWARE". All twin cam engines, produced from 1999 to the present, have these design flaws.........these are not as reliable as the older, single cam engines, like the EVO engine, which had a bolted together crankshaft and METAL GEAR DRIVE for the cam and oil pump, and had NO PLASTIC components in critical areas of the engine............the TC engine is not the H-D, engine of yesteryear.........just saying, know what you are buying, before you buy. Lots of YOU TUBE videos posted by Harley TC owners who have been had problems with these engines..........do your own research and see.
