Wizard, I should've clarified this...I was referring to the bushing for the shaft on the heel/toe shifter.

Great video. What was the reason for replacing the shifter sleeve? The video didn't give a reason for this repair/maintenance.

Removing the sleeve with this tool allows you to remove the gear shifter assembly with out dissembling the transmission. Usally your only in a situation like this when someone has tried to replace the shift shaft seal and put gouges in the gear shifter shaft or case and this tool makes the job super easy.

I have a question. I allowed my shifter lever to run loose and stripped the splines. So I'm going to replace the shifter assembly. Do you think I could reuse the sleeve bushing? The new sleeves are unobtainable apparently

It's not common to replace the bushing in the case. I do it because I'm already in there. As alot of work to do the shifter assembly tho especially if you don't have the Jim's too to save you from pulling the transmission out.

Wizard...what tool is used to remove the bushing for the shifter shaft? I know on 2016 and earlier the part number is 5518. But I can't find shit for the Milwaukee 8. Please help!!!!!!

Could you please tell the difference with Jims Cruise Drive Shifter Shaft Sleeve Tool 1658?

Jims 5517 allows you to remove the shifter sleeve and then, therefore, the shifter paw from the transmission while the gearset is still inside the transmission. Where as the jims 1658 instructions mention that the gear set does for a fact need to be removed for the 1658 to be used.

I don't think so. I haven't seen a setup like this for 5 speeds.

Which 12045 Replacement oil seal is best? Some are Rubber, others have a metal outer ring with a rubber inner ring, and others are identified as double layered. How does an oil seal with a metal outer ring seal against the metal transmission housing/case?

No. It's a different setup on a 5 speed.

I haven't tried it on a 5 speed. But I believe it's because of the angle of how the shifter paw pass over the gears and stuff to be able to be driven out of the transmission.

I swear man it's annoying as hell how many pullers and different tool you have to buy in order to break down a harley. I'm doing a complete rebuild of my fxdx and I've probably ordered 8 different sets of specialty tools. If someone were to put together a full kit for like $400, they'd do very well. Lol
