One of the things I like so much about this vid is how the Guard are depicted as fighting with effective tactics and compience. Not just throwing waves of men at their foes. The issue is that the Hive Mind continues to outmanoeuvre them
@JohnDoe-dr9ff25 күн бұрын
I was a bit disappointed that every time tyranids were deployed, it was effectively a surprise to the Guard. Don’t the Guard KNOW what types of tyranids there are? Wouldn’t pilots be aware of harpies and actually be on the look out for them while airborne? Same with the tyranids that dig behind enemy lines? Why is every assault from tyranid forces considered a “surprise” to the Guard? They’re not a completely unknown enemy to them.
@TheIllusiveMan1114 күн бұрын
@@JohnDoe-dr9ff It's entirely possible that aside from the higher echelons of the planet's command, they didn't know Tyranids existed. Some planets go centuries without any news about the wider galaxy, so it's not impossible that they simply didn't know enough about them. Even if they DID know about the Nids, these guys aren't with the Inqusition or anything like that. They'd have some basic info but not much else. For example the Guardsmen's Primer, which is a Guardsman's little book about the Imperium's enemies, basically just says the Tyranids are animals and to kill the big ones. We as the audience have most of the info, but Bob your local PDF volunteer isn't going to have an encyclopedic knowledge about Tyranid bioforms and how to counter them.

@@TheIllusiveMan11 And this video showed the military as having current weaponry and arms. Unfortunately, your argument and explanation just don’t make sense. This scenario showed a planetary assault of an Imperial world that is armed with state of the art Imperial weaponry. It is ridiculous to assume in this scenario that planet would have current armaments and not current intelligence as logistically, it is FAR easier to transport information than equipment….thus why supply lines are so critical. Sorry, your explanation just doesn’t make any logical sense which is why this video doesn’t make much sense either. An invasion like this would NOT be a surprise to the Imperials. They would know what these tyranids are capable of….they NAMED them. The video implies they KNOW their names, they are familiar with them, they are armed with the latest imperial weapons and equipment, but they DON’T have current information and intelligence? Why? Because it’s harder to transport information than physical objects like millions of tons of equipment and weapons? That makes no sense at all and is completely backwards with simple basic math understanding of logistics.

The ultimate idea of a gaming franchise is one that is so huge it includes different game genres that encompasses Real-time, turn-based and grand strategy games, for both space and planetary scenarios. Tower defense with supply trains and outposts, squad-based FPS, survival, city building, sims style life simulation, agri-world farm simulation, logistics management, etc. Separate games within the same universe that are interconnected for coop and multiplayer but can also be played as single player games. Each gameplay outcome is tracked online and pit different factions against one another. I'm probably not expressing my idea clearly enough. Basically, the ultimate 40K gaming experience.

6:24 has me thinking that Nuclear Ballistic Submarines are still relevant in the 41st Millennium. Actually on a larger note I feel like in all science fiction having planetside SSBN's will continue to be a relevant strategic decision. Like a stealth ship is kinda just alone in space making it easy to pick up with some sort of sensor, but if you have an entire planet's ocean to hide under it's going to be super hard to find subs hiding there. Water would be a completely different medium from space so even if your aliens have advanced sensors for space I doubt they'll be specialised for water as well. Even if they have planetwide general scanners, knowing the oceans have an unusual amount of steel in them isn't going to help you guide a missile. Just interesting.
@inertjohnjunk2 ай бұрын
There are many ways Tyranids could realistically counter submarines. First of all, who's to say some of your crew aren't already hybrid or cultists, those are prime targets for infiltration by genestealer cults. Secondly, it would be extremely easy to just fill the oceans with extremely efficient hunter-killer bioforms, remember, even the slightest of electrical signals would be easy peasy for a specialized creature to detect and follow, so even submarines running minimal systems(lifesupport only for example) wouldn't be able to hide. That or just... Y'know... Drink the oceans... They're full of biomass and useful nutrients etc. The hiveships were probably going to do so anyway, they could just do so sooner if they detected anything being launched from underwater.
@Ailuk2 ай бұрын
@@inertjohnjunk fair point, the Tyranids are kinda busted it seems. I was just remarking at the lack of nuclear ballistic submarine representation in sci-fi media’s military strategy in general. You gotta admit SSBN’s are badass and having more of them in fiction would objectively improve it.

Better than the last one I will say. Biggest problem with the video was the Ravener segment; you blended two different Tyranids (Ravener and Trygon) into one thing but in a way that didn't really accurately convey how they best serve their role in a Tyranid Invasion. The model used is not a Ravener, but rather is a Trygon. Trygons are significantly larger (one of the largest known Tyranids in fact, originally classified as a Bio-Titan) and are known to dig giant underground tunnel systems throughout the invaded planet to attack from below, and Raveners accompany them, spilling out from these subterranean networks en-mass to either aid the Trygon or split off and sneak attack other vital targets. A Trygon also emits a large field of static energy it can use either as a shield or weapon and potentially even an EMP, which can play a major role: they have been known to disable critical electronics as part of their ambush (generators, weapon systems or even energy shields) that leave the opponent much more vulnerable to the Tyranid attack even if the Trygon is repelled. Raveners have a warrior-like head with a pincer tail, and while they can dig through rock, they cannot do so at the sheer speed of the Trygon nor carve tunnel networks of such width and length. Invasions with them often have the Trygon leading a Ravener pack through dug tunnels to erupt beneath crucial areas at a time that will cause the most disruption possible for the victim. Or worse, a Trygon Prime (a synaptic Trygon with a stronger electricity field and enhanced senses) leading a group of Trygons and massive clutch of Raveners to potentially allow the entire swarm (Hive Tyrant and all) to invade the enemy base via the tunnel network. The part with the Harpy was very accurate, albeit the model has both weapons rather than two of the same (though maybe that's to help clarify which two they can equip, which would be pretty fair.)

Thanks for pointing that out. We had a hard time finding a Ravener model actually so its a bit derivative of the model we could find for the Mawlok which will be featured in later episodes as we get into the Bio-Titan deplyment wave
@stronghold3252 ай бұрын
@@InvictaHistory If that's the reason, that's fair. I think the DoW2/R models are on steam if you can use them. Just make sure to differentiate between the Trygon and Mawloc should you cover them in that later, as they serve different roles: the former creates underground ambush points and leads an attack through them while the latter are giant sand worms pulling hit-and-runs while breaking up the ground and swallowing people whole. Also as others have pointed out, the lack of mention on the synapse creatures hampers a lot of the accuracy of an invasion portrayal as they are the most important part of each Nid swarm: for how intelligent and cunning the Hive Mind is, it heavily relies on these creatures to help spread it's intellect across the force of bugs or else the lesser Nids will succumb to instinct and often panic. The things the Harpies and Raveners do here would be accurate, but would require a synaptic commander to bring them in reach of the web to enable them to do it. The most important Tyranid in any invasion (beside the Norn Queen, who births them from above) is the Hive Tyrant, which has the strongest connection to the Hive Mind of any Tyranid. Each Hive Tyrant is different, with unique preferences and tactics in addition to a greater degree of individuality that allows them to think with far more freedom when it come to solving problems or countering unforeseen events. While still slaved to the Hive Mind and their eternal hunger, they and the Norn Queens are the only Tyranids that could be viewed as truly sapient in a way. And if or when they are killed, their minds are implanted within a fresh body while they learn from their mistakes. I think it would be very beneficial to cover them in a future part, or at least mention them and their presence.

@@PatchGaming22 They do have acid guns too, and it might be easy to dogfight a few, but having like 40 tossed at 1 pilot might be a bit much for them... Tyranids are rough, man

Covering the Fall of Reach or the battle for Earth from Halo would be really cool. From an almost suicidal frontal assault in space to land ground troops, to the defense of the Super MAC reactor sites.

Are those Mutalisk screams we are hearing? Or is it from the Fellbeasts of Lord of the Rings?

Very fun and interesting video. I think you've slightly over-egged the Harpy as a super weapon though, but that's just me. Great focus on what really wins battles though, logistics. Big guns with no ammo and no food and water for their crews aren't much use at all,. so the later shift of the nids to target these logistics centers is really nice. Excellent.

Logistics definitely seem funky in 40K. In Vraks, the citadel was able to last 17 years without running out of ammo, food, and water. How were they able to keep factories and farms open and productive enough to supply millions of defenders over 17 years in a relatively tiny area? Where were the raw materials coming from?
