This one is NOT a song where she goes deep with her growls. Tatiana has an amazing range from her high belt (that you heard near the end briefly) to her brutal low growls. This is pretty mid-range for what she can do. Live proof can be found in "Pit of Consciousness" live in Kiev. or "Home Back". They are from Ukraine, and as a 40+ year Metal music veteran I can honestly say I've never heard better.

I would suggest looking at "Pit of Consciousness" live in Kiev next (The official video is cool, too, but the live version is amazing), then "Teacher, Teacher" - either the official video or live in Melbourne. After those, you'll be ready for their heavier songs - "Who is gonna be the one?" live, and "Home Back (official video), though you might want to watch the official video of "Retrospection" before "Home Back" - they are both about returning home. You can toss in "Judgement (and Punishment)" - either a live version or Tatiana's single take - at any time. The single take is great for seeing how she does it.

😁👍 OK, if you expect some pattern in Jinjer`s songs, they usually destroy that impression quite soon and effortlessly... Now you need to see the live from Wacken version of "Perennial" to really believe that she can growl that way. And quite good would also be the one-take vocal of "Judgement and Punishment". And then? Well, if you`re not addicted by then, you can`t be helped. If you are, well, it doesn`t matter what to listen to next! 🤣🤘 And soon you`ll discover that the whole band is fricking amazing...

Welcome to metal(specifically progressive metalcore)! So basically how she is doing that is her vocal cords are open and the tissue above it (especially the false cords) flap around and create a bunch of overtones. Those overtones are then manipulated by the jaw, tongue, and lips. This technique is called false cord screaming. There is another technique that is commonplace which is fry screaming. The difference between false cord screaming is that the vocal cords are pretty close to closed and air is going through and making a static like sound. Both techniques are pretty safe as long as you know what you are doing and have warmed up. Also, both techniques are actually pretty similar to kargyraa throat singing(the difference between throat singing and harsh vocals is that in throat singing the vocal cords are phonating while in harsh vocal they are not). As you saw females are definitely capable of doing it. Here are some of the female screamers that I find really impressive(excluding Tatiana): 1. Avienne Kiuttu (Vintersea - Crack of Light) (fry screams) 2. Tanya Elizabeth (Monochomatic Black - Abaddon) (false cord screams) 3. Vicky Psarakis (The Agonist - Orphan) (fry screams & false cord screams) 4. Chelsea Murphy (Dawn of Ouroboros - Spiral of Hypnotism) (fry screams) 5. Som Pluijmer & Missi Avila (Your Chance to Die - Ignite the sky) (false cord screams) 6. Ira Sidenko (Dehydrated - Sickness) (false cord screams) 7. Yuna Imada (Passcode - Trace LIVE in Tokyo 2018) (fry screams) 8. Lauren Hart (Once Human - Sledgehammer) (false cord screams) 9. Eissa Zhovnerchuk (Morphide - Panopticon) (fry screams) 10. Angela Gossow (Arch Enemy - Nemesis LIVE in Japan 2008) (false cord screams)

@j.f.fisher53183 жыл бұрын
How? The oversimplified version is singing is done with the vocal cords, growls are done with the false vocal cords. And false cords aren't gendered so men and women can produce very similar tones. This isn't as low as she can go, either, though she's pitching her growls a bit lower than her default growling tone. The best male growlers like Alex Terrible and Randy Blythe can go still lower than her lowest growls though, because a larger instrument produces a lower tone and for all her skill Tati is quite petite. To my taste, nobody puts more emotion into their growls than Tatiana does, and I'm here for the feels. And the lyrics. And the guys' awesome musicianship. :D I think it might help with the disbelief to check out another famous female growler, Angela Gossow who is about the same height and whose growls are arguably even more brutal than Tatiana's but Tati has more flexibility. Angela was one of the pioneers of female growling vocals with demos going back to 1991 and damaged her voice figuring out the technique. Check out Arch Enemy's song Nemesis live in Tokyo to see what she can do. Tatiana was inspired by Otep who started performing with growls about the same time Angela did, with Ghostflowers off the Confrontation live DVD being a good example - Tati says she was shocked that Otep was a woman and had the intuition she could shock others, which was pretty good intuition. Tatiana has a pronounced tomboy side and didn't want anyone to say she growled like a girl so she emulated Randy Blythe from Lamb of God when she was learning to growl. They did a cover of Laid to Rest by LoG when they were starting out, but only bootlegs exist of it - the one with the best sound was uploaded by NosSam in 2012. Probably not something to react to as the sound isn't great but it makes a good reality check from when they were just nobodies and hadn't even signed with their first small record label yet. There's a fair amount of editing here, so I always recommend checking out a concert video. I've seen them twice and have tickets to see them in Seattle this fall - hope things work out for that. They are arguably better on stage than in the studio because they always give 110% for the fans. Perennial live at Wacken is similar in hardness to this. Who Is Gonna Be The One is on the harder side and is a classic that shows her really low growls, and a segue into a totally different singing genre too - and the musical skills of the guys are really pronounced too, with Roman and Eugene doing some beautiful dueling with guitar and bass. Subbed. Cheers!

Definitely not screamo. Try screaming... now try growling. Completely different. There is screaming... which usually is where the term screamo comes from and usually is derogatory. This isn't that at all. False vocal fold action going on here and completely different approach. :) She does get closer to a scream on the very last note but even then it is still mostly a growl. EDIT: With that said I think she may be the best growler and a damn good overall vocalist.
