HARRODS OPENS NEW CHOCOLATE HALL, LUXURY CHOCOLATE, HIGH-END CHOCOLATES, TO'AK, £300 CHOCOLATE BAR, Harrods is celebrating 150 years of selling chocolate with a special new food hall. This week the department store added yet another string to its foodie bow with the opening of the Chocolate Hall: an entire section dedicated to the world’s favourite treat. Timed to celebrate the 150 year anniversary of the opening of Harrods’ first confectionary counter, and marking the end of an extensive four-year refurbishment of the store’s food halls, the Chocolate Hall promises to be as much an experience as it is a retail destination. Alongside creations by some of the most exclusive and highly-regarded chocolatiers in the world, the hall will host special live demonstrations from Harrods' in-house chocolate masters, while shoppers will also be able to see these artisans at work as they go about making a daily spread of handmade chocolates.

£300 Chocolate bar - Made in Ecuador - the motherland of cacao - this To’ak Palo Santo Aged Chocolate is made from Nacional cacao, which is coveted for its prized floral aroma and complex flavour. This tablet has a nose of citrusy pine with a touch of mint, while the finish reveals tantalising accords of coffee, dates and pine due to its three-year age process.
Whose chocolate can we find here?
Many chocolate favourites can be found in the hall including Pierre Marcolini, William Curley, Godiva (yes, there will be chocolate dipped strawberries), and many more besides. You can also find the very high-end To'ak chocolates, made from rare Ecuadorian Nacional cacao beans through a special fermenting process.
Of course, Harrods' connection to chocolate is nothing new. The store began creating its own-brand chocolate range in the early 19th century and, by the 1970s, more than 100 tonnes of the sweet stuff were being produced on site per year. To this day it is the only UK department store to make and sell its own chocolate in-house and all cocoa used by Harrods is responsibly sourced, with the store a longtime supporter of third-party initiatives which ensure the livelihood and wellbeing of cocoa farming communities across the world.
So what's changed, design-wise?
Like all the other halls, everything looks much brighter. The design by David Collins Studio features all the classic tilework having been painstakingly restored by hand. So it has a brand new look, but still retains the classic Harrods feel.
And how about Harrods own chocs?
They'll still have the Harrods Gold Bar - a perennial bestseller and much of the chocolate production is overseen by their Head Pastry Chef Alistair Bert. You'll be able to see the Harrods chefs make chocolate directly in the hall itself as they create bonbons, chocolate bars, chocolate dipped confit fruit and more.
