We sailed on that ship in November, 2021 for the California Coast itinerary. Had such a great time that we booked again for this November. Those hand washing stations on the Lido desk are the BEST! I wish I had one in my bathroom. An invigorating experience! 👍

Very informative, detailed and nicely shot video - as usual. I really appreciate that Holland America has retained the "crew serves you" concept in the Lido Market buffet area. That design is long overdo in the cruise industry (pandemic or not) and will keep passengers safer by keeping grubby hands off of the food. Thanks for the great work - it's like I'm there.

One age demographic that cruise lines miss is the 18-20 year old group. They offer designated spaces for kids and teens, but overlook the 18-20 year olds. This age group is generally traveling with their families. They’re too old to be in the teen center, yet too young for the bars and clubs. Cruise lines really need to offer a designated center for this age group, so they can meet other people their age while on board.

I agree. I'm 18 and I love cruises but there isn't usually anything to do for me :( just a few more years though 😅

I'm telling you that I was thinking the same. My friend had a 19 year old when they cruised a few years back and he really only had fun in the arcade and port excursions. I felt really bad for him. His parents went all out though 2 years later when they took him on a cruise with his 21+ friends for a mega 21st birthday bash

Disney Cruise Line have the "1820 Society", specifically for that group. Fantastic. They get dedicated staff, games, private events, complimentary specialty coffee & tea gatherings, games every night... But it all depends on the 18-20s showing up for the first event so the staff know there is interest. There's no dedicated space for the 1820s like the kid's clubs, but the 1820s still tend to gather at the lounges that have games, trivia or silent disco when there's no scheduled events. All events are listed on the Navigator app. The last B2B cruises we were on Disney gifted juggling balls to the 1820s and taught them to juggle. Huge hit. So much fun to watch them progress, and because the ships are nice smaller sizes, the whole community got to know them. Our 1830 Society young person *loves* the club and is out late at activities every night, and come home with new friends every time. Note, every night there's typically an "1820 Society" event right at 9:30, so if you have late dinner seating (8:15) it can be tight. Let your servers know your young adult is in a rush, they'll help.

Could just lower your legal drinking age to the more reasonable 18 as well and remove the whole issue? It's not like they won't be drinking anyway in the real world. It never ceases to amaze me that in the US kids will be driving cars, swinging mankiller guns, popping pills and voting to keep all that, long before they're ever allowed to legally be in same room as a beer, let alone drink one. Learning to drink alcohol responsibly should start young. We used to have it at 16, which was even better for that purpose imo. At that young age, kids still live with their parents and are wholly dependent on them. The majority of kids will even listen to them at least some of the time. Try that at 21. I got my first taste of beer quite young, I wasn't a fan. Then or now. We'd get a glass of champagne at new year's and could always sample anything our parents were drinking at dinner or at parties. By the time I was legally allowed to buy my own, it wasn't this big cool unknown to do because parents don't let you. No, my parents did it as well, so by definition it was not very cool or terribly exciting. xD Naturally I later experimented with getting proper drunk, but by then I was already familiar with the taste and some of my boundaries. Travelling with family on a cruiseship is therefore a rather ideal and relatively controlled environment. Plenty of opportunities for mom and dad to show how it's done throughout the day and at dinner. Then when the 18yo's go clubbing, it'll mostly be with strangers their age they met onboard, not caving to peer pressure from their friends at home. Drinks are also expensive and mom and dad will learn of every single one. The ideal environment to expose them to it and it's up and downsides and teaching them restraint. Just because you can drink at such venues doesn't mean you always should. They'll witness plenty of examples of people that would've been better off without it as well. But under excellent safety standards. Much much better than secretly going to shady places underage and out of sight. Or away from home at spring break surrounded by peer pressure. If you and your family want to experience what the legal drinking age set to 18 means for the 18-20 demographic, you can try a European sailing on your favourite ships from almost every cruise. With the exception of Carnival, most will change their rules according to the laws in of the country they're sailing in and for almost all of Europe that will be 18.

Unfortunately, I scalded my feet while in the large steam room. The ships movement caused to allow the VERY hot water collecting on the floor to puddle up, rocking from side to dose. Just be careful! It is very nice otherwise.

Great tour. For me this is a magnificent ship. Like the decor or not the spaces have the potential to provide spas and pampering, thoughtful deck areas, lots of music and entertainment options and spaces and lounges with dance floors, plenty of restaurant for foodies with specialty options, enough high tech to offer quality, and the usual casino, with family options for children and teens. Yes, it doesn't have go karts and the slides or the boulevards that some huge ships do, but if you can forego those things, this ship updates HAL nicely. Under 100,000 tons. Ships don't have to be huge (by today's standards) to offer a lot.

It’s too bad that they have way too much space for kids. I thought Holland America catered more to adults. Obviously the other Holland ships are better as they don’t cater that much space for kids.
