Transcript:
CJ: Continuing on with the release of the trailer for your Netflix documentary, there’s a particular line near the end of the clip that I would like to pick up on: you said, “when the stakes are this high, doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?”
H: That’s probably my favourite line in the whole trailer, what about you Meghan?
M: Yeah it’s an important line, just about sums things up, right? That’s main problem really, lots of people have commented and speculated, but we’ve never been able to get our story across
CJ: Yes, except for your Oprah interview, Cut Magazine interview, Variety Magazine interview, the book finding freedom which you were clearly involved in and the incessant whinging on your podcast, the comically misnamed Archetypes, - then yes, I completely agree, the main problem is that you’ve been too shy and retiring.
H: We didn’t want to make a fuss, but it’s gone past that now. If we don’t stand up for ourselves and start finding our voice, then, well, we’re likely to be forgotten about and slink away into the shadows.
CJ: Wouldn’t that be a shame?
M: A tragedy, and one we’re not gonna let happen.
CJ: Back to this line from the trailer: when the stakes are this high, wouldn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?
H: Gives me shivers - every time.
CJ: Perhaps I’m being foolish, but what stakes exactly?
M: Well, first of all, our lives, and the good we will or won’t be able to do in the future, to start with
H: And all the money we might miss out on
M: Two, there are hidden narratives that need to be exposed, right - there are a lot of victims of institutional abuses that haven’t had their voices’ and won’t unless we can lead the way
H: And if we can achieve that, it should lead to a lot more money
M: And to be perfectly honest the worry all of these falsehoods that haven’t been cleared up is stressful that Harry’s hair is at stake
H: (wearing thin wigs) And it doesn’t matter how much money we make, you can grow it back naturally, not this colour
CJ: Indeed, but why did you say, wouldn’t it make more sense to hear our story?
M: Well, wouldn’t it? Surely?
CJ: It’s just that it makes two assumes: that you’ve not been “heard” until now, when the reality is you two haven’t shut up since you left the royal family, and two, that your version of your story will be more accurate than anyone else’s, when actually you have a long history of telling stories that bear very little resemblance to reality
H: When?
CJ: The Archbishop of Canterbury married us privately before the wedding, which he denied; that a South African cast member of the Lion King told you that they were dancing in the streets like they did for Mandela when you married Harry, which the only SA actor in the ensemble denied saying and denied happening; when you said that on deal or no deal you were made to
H: Okay, whatever, stop being racist
M: (face in hands)
H: Oh, look what you’ve done now
CJ: Apologies - just one more question - is what’s really going on here, what’s really at stake, is that this is your very best chance and bringing down the royal family once and for all?
H: Of Course not, their my family.
M: (looks up devilshly through her protective hands)
