This man absolutely needs to be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A biopic movie also. Fascinating life and times!

I remember when I heard that Harry was killed. I was on my own in an office, I fell to my knees and instantly felt embarrassed that I was so upset about the death of someone that I only had the pleasure of seeing once on stage [Australia]. Then I realised that the intimacy I felt was the gift he gave us. That man moved me in ways that even today I feel a profound sense of loss. To this day I think of Harry Chapin, a life well lived. I cannot tell you how much I wish he was still with us. Vale Harry Chapin.

This was an excellent comment. I agree with you, he had a way of making you feel like you were best friends sitting in his living room, even though there 10 thousand people around you. His family is sure doing him proud with Chapin Foundation, I am sure he is smiling up there.

I was born in 1977. I grew up listening to Harry Chapin and to my father playing his songs on guitar. He is by far my favorite music artist of all time. No one is able to tell stories like he did. I wish I could have seen him live. As others mentioned, he truly belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Harry, I still listen to your music almost every day. Your music has meant so much to so many of us while you were still with us and long since you’ve passed. I still remember seeing you in concert and appreciated the kiss. Will never forget

I was fortunate to see Harry perform about 20 times. I lived for a while in a place called Watertown, New York. One I was visiting a friend who worked at the student union at the local college. As I waited for him, I notice this wall with various signatures on it and there was Harry's signature "Keep the change". I asked my friend when did Harry perform here? He told me a years ago, he came up for a benefit concert one weekend, got snowed in and was stuck here for a week till the roads cleared (the airport which was a puddle jumper airport was also shut down). And then it hit me like a thunder bolt exploding in my mind....I've listened to Harry's live album too many times where at the beginning of "A Better Place to Be" he says this is about a small town in upstate New York, called Watertown where I spent a week there, one afternoon. Well I listened to the song again and then walked around town and found everything Harry mentioned in the song...the bar, Miller's Tool & Dye and the diner. I got chills and goose bumps. Harry was snowed in there so what did he do? but walked around town and created "A Better Place to Be"

I was in Watertown New York while in the Air Force in January 1980. It was a joint exercise with the Air Force, Army, and Marines. I slept in a nice warm cabin while all the grunts were out in the field tents freezing there butts off. I don't think you can get much further north than there. It's right on the Canadian border.

For years I had wondered about the man behind the Cats in the Cradle. After finally Googling it a few weeks ago, I found this was a man near my age that had died much too young, just a few years after Cats in the Cradle. I am heartbroken for a man that dies almost 40 years ago. After watching video after video, I have cried hours over the loss of Harry Chapin. I feel overwhelmed with grief for a man that should have had so much more time.

Sometimes you have to slow down and listen to stories of everyday life.. To measure your experience from how life unfolds this is what great artist do.. They capture a brief experience of life through a song.. And you don’t why but you have to listen over and over to see if you miss something.. and you always do.. I’m so thankful that I live through the sixties and when the seventies came once we slowed down we listened to greatest so short lived and we don’t why.. Brilliance.. that is of Harry Chaplin a visionary singing to the blue sky so far away now.. LB September 2022

I have this on DVD and play it often. I was only four when Harry passed on, but as I grew a little older he became my favorite singer songwriter. By the time I graduated high school in 95 I knew the words to all the songs (at least the ones that were commercially available at that time). Harry Chapin was the best and he continues to influence me and many others in positive ways every day. It's been 39 years now without him, but his deeds and music live on. When in doubt, do something! And keep the change....

I only saw Harry perform once while I was at Queen's University in Kingston Ontario (January 1980) and hadn't really paid a lot of attention to his music up till that point. I instantly became a huge fan. World Hunger Year was a cause that he was championing and he offered to stay around and sign anything that you bought and kiss the girls and apologized to the guys that he wouldn't kiss us. I think Sequel was in its infancy and the concert was the first time I ever heard it. One of my favourite songs is Old College Avenue and it brings back vivid memories of my times in Kingston. Taken far too young.

Harry Chapin was one of the few true performer. He knew who he playing for, his family, friends and audience, not the studios. Like how he would evolve a song to best influence it's overall impact. Had seen him several times in concert and enjoyed how he would take the time to talk with the audience. That interaction and bantering endured him to fans. Not really sure who wanted to stay there longer, him or his fans. Cheap Seats Rule.

I had the pleasure of seeing him in concert twice here in upstate NY. The second time I was standing right next to him after his performance. I was waaaaay to shy to even speak to him Several years later I also had the pleasure of seeing his brother Tom in concert. This time I was not shy and talked with Tom and told him my story. He said Harry loved meeting and talking with his fans. I so wish I had conversed with him and asked for an autograph and a photo. And also wish Tom would perform again here in Oneonta NY 👍

He died too soon. I wonder often if he couldn't have changed thing in this world. He sure tried. Saw him several times in concert and a few years ago finally made it to his grave. Very strange thing happened. He's there I know. I hope he's resting in peace, but I think he left too much behind he hadn't finished. Hope he is in peace. He accomplished a lot.

Thank you for posting this. Can't get enough of our beloved Harry. He always looks like he loves singing his story songs. So many artists look like it is a drag to sing the same songs to different venues. But not Harry, always a smile. You can tell he loved his 'Sandy'. What a great thing to have a man write a song for you.
