Used to have this on VHS, definately needs a DVD release. One of the best comedy classics of the 90's!

Whilst this wonderfully lampoons all of those good awful Radio One DJ's I can now see elements of Clarkson and Hammond in Smashie And Nicey...

Well, no..Alan Partridge character was first used by Steve on the radio 4 show 'On the hour' broadcast xmas 1991, over 2 years before this. These characters here were based on seventies style radio one DJ's, who were all losing their jobs by the nineties.
@robicenco15 жыл бұрын
Yes - but Smashie and Nicey were created in 1990 so they pre-date (meaningfully) Partridge, "End of an Era" was their last major TV appearance.

very good , of course. I always thought that they could have used 'elo'. would have been slightly better as the 'always played group' rather than bachman turner, as I remember elo always being on radio 1 in the eighties, and just to say that I didnt mind them either.

Think Harry Enfield said it was loosely based on his departure and the other older DJ's that were forced out from Radio 1 then.
@gavinreid89373 жыл бұрын
S&N was a tribute not a piss take but the BBC took it the wrong way. Also "out of touch licence funded Radio 1 " had 99% of the listening figures meaning Commercial radio was getting f-all & woulda saved a coupla quid if it didnt exist.

The real joke is that now, no soul would complain about an out of touch fella playing Bachman Turner Overdrive on the old wireless. I have always found this profoundly depressing - it';s on the nose but it's very excoriating and sharp, leaning to acrid.
