It's close enough, I happened to be the only Yorkshireman working for a Company in the South of the UK, I was warned about my language and how it was upsetting some of the other engineers in the weekly meeting. My 'crime' was using the word PROBLEM, and it had apparently triggered a few people who had designed something that didn't work, I was told in the next meeting I should say, we have an issue with X, not a problem. So I did, and carefully chose my words, we have an issue with X, and it's still not working, despite the same fault reported at every breakdown, currently the cost of this issue is over 15k in man hours, 100k in downtime, and incalculable in terms of reputation with the customer, and apologies but if you don't think that's a Fk,,,,Problem you are in the wrong job! Sometimes, you need to cut through the bull
@grahamstubbs49622 жыл бұрын
That's inarguable. Although I am somewhat upset that engineers can get upset. Costumiers, certainly. Architects, maybe. Engineers though? 😀
@chrisjones22242 жыл бұрын
@@grahamstubbs4962 You would be surprised, especially when it's something they have designed, it's like walking on eggshells, part of the problem us they are 'insulated' to a large degree, from direct customer or workshop comment

@@chrisjones2224 Oh, you've just reminded me. As an ex-engineer myself, I was on the receiving end of a particularly stinging critique some years ago. Right. I'll go and find the responsible party. When it comes to court this is your fault. 🙂

There is a saying that "you can always tell a Yorkshireman, you just cannot tell him much". Jeremy Hardy (an excellent comedian no longer with us) said "A Yorkshireman is a man with a sense of unjustified self-confidence". I have lived in Yorkshire most of my 65 years and i would not live anywhere else. It is truly Gods own county.

As a Northerner this paints us as very abrasive & confrontational, bollocks! I've been on the tube in London during the Challenge Cup (Rugby League) & we've managed to get people that wouldn't normally look at each on the same journey every day SINGING with us! Northerners are very friendly & Southerners take it as intrusive because they're not used to interacting with strangers. It's practically rude if you don't start up a random conversation at a bus stop, pub bar or uniral where we come from 😊 The following 2 minute clip explains this more than I ever could & its by the BBC which is wierd? Lol Northener says hello : kzbin.info/www/bejne/hoWTkqxvqpaanZY

Its a comedy sketch, naturally taking stereotypes, both of Yorkshire and Southern ad agency yuppy types...to an extreme example for comedic effect. Its why its funny...it isnt a documentary about northerners. I find your picture of Northeners/Southeners as a bit of a broad sweeping statement. I've met people from all over the UK who fit into either camp, not based on geography at all...they are just individuals
@lpgibbo74632 жыл бұрын
@@neilanderson6280 have to agree to disagree, yes it's a stereotype but these aren't extreme, they are based on real people, but i know characters like & far worse than these ones! The TV has guidelines to stick too, real life doesn't! Also you talk like I've been nowhere & met no one? I've been visiting London yearly for over 40 years! I've served all over the world and didn't just meet these 'stereotypes', I lived with them, sometimes for years. I stand by my statement, in general Northerners are more friendly. Oh & thanks for pointing out it was a comedy sketch, I wondered why they'd put a laughter track on a documentary? As George Whitebread would say 'no offence pal'. 😉
