As a Yorkshireman myself Tysheen... This is a very old stereotypical view... But it's fair to say that there's very few people from Yorkshire... That are anything like that these days... Yorkshire folk are known for being thrifty with their money... And brutally honest speaking folk... Basically they tell it like it is. 👌👍

@@brucedowney9164 I totally understand what you're saying Bruce... But the comment by the "Yorkshireman"... Was actually aimed at the fact that originally to play Cricket for Yorkshire County Cricket Club... You had to be born in the County... Obviously when that rule was abolished in 1992... When Sachin Tendulkar became the first overseas-born player to represent Yorkshire... Prior to him joining... The clubs team had never selected any player from outside of Yorkshire... The racism allegations were only brought to light in 2020... Long after this comedy sketch was originally recorded. 👍😉

That's a very old sketch from very early 90s... You wouldn't even be able to make that today. The Yorkshireman is an exaggeration of a stereotype. Possibly modelled on an actor called Brian Glover who starred in many things including bread commercials for Allinson's wholemeal bread. Their tagline of that era was "Bread wi' nowt taken out!".

It's kind of true that this is the Yorkshire character, honest, no nonsense and definitely not woke or PC. A famous Yorkshire cricketer called Geoff Boycott is probably the most famous living example of an old school Yorkshire man. But it is very OTT compared to what you would find now (having only spent 1 week in Leeds for experience).

For Yorkshire think Texas 😀 You'll find a Yorkshire Airlines sketch if you search for it and Monty Python's four Yorkshiremen too. If you want a fun light hearted Yorkshire drama choose All Creatures Great and Small. Three veterinarians working in the 1930's Yorkshire Dales. There's the classic BBC series or the present Channel 5 remake.

The county of Yorkshire is in England and is the second biggest county in England, I am a Londoner who lives in the County of Hertfordshire which is one of the richest. I have been to Yorkshire on away games with my favourite football ( not that American egg throwing game that has absolutely nothing to do with football) team. I have been to Leeds, Sheffield and the worst of the lot Bradford which makes Afghanistan a very luxurious place to live in. The Yorkshire countryside is absolutely beautiful and one of the best to visit if you are a tourist, my personal favourite holiday destination in England is the diamond on top of the crown of England is Cornwall which I love with a passion and I am a bloke. Getting back to Yorkshire the only other thing I love about Yorkshire apart from the countryside is that the people are not afraid to say what they want, if they think that you are a wanker or something else they are not afraid to tell you to your face. There is no PC there or Woke movement there, down south of England where I am from it's horrible as people are too much PC, too much into the Woke crap, too much feminist bullshit and too much BLM which is very racist, isn't all lives matter weather your black, white, asian or what ever. Real Yorkshire people don't stand for any of that crap nor do anyone living in the North of England. If you don't like what Yorkshire people say then tough, I just love that and I wish that more of that attitude would travel to every part of the UK. I have the exact same attitude and I don't give a monkey's if I upset anyone, I am not PC friendly or Woke or a BLM plonker or a simp to women's issues or rights nor do proper Yorkshire people. 💂♂️💂♂️💂♂️💂♂️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪💙💛🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦

From that day on, we referred to him as "Captain Hovis" ^_ ^

Yorkshire people can be fairly blunt by nature, but that is an over the top portrayal. The never play for Yorkshire was pretty accurate though-to play for the Cricket team until around the time this was filmed you had to be born in the county itself & until 1992 they were the only side not to have an overseas player & the Kirkstall Lane End fans were notorious for racist abuse against non-white opposition players.

I was born and grew up in Yorkshire. I do feel that the stereotypes are spot on for a certain section of men. My father and brother-in-law, for example, make me cringe with their ' outspokeness' - however, it's not being outspoken, it's being incredibly rude. Also, they don't act like that towards their peers - only people they perceive as coming from ' Down South' or 'posh' ( aka anyone who has been to university). They have a massive chip on their shoulders about anyone who 'thinks they're better than us', but in fact, it's they who think others think they're better, when in fact, nobody gives a shit.
