Lord Boom, just to clarify, Enfield and Whitehouse are here re-creating British 'Public Information Films' from the 1940s and '50s. At that time, many top British doctors considered women to be prone to "hysteria" and that extreme emotional behaviour should be treated firmly or else with tranquillisers, even ECT. Our Cultural Revolution only began in about 1963. Until then, an ordinary policeman still had the right to enter any house and remove any child he regarded as being born "out of wedlock". Fascinating times. Love your output!

Wonderful prose about the exacting comedy that this most certainly was, dear fellow, and I couldn't have said it better myself; so instead I typed this and made a ghastly but required modern 'social media' fashionable accepting thumbs up!
@johncartwright81542 жыл бұрын
Very true that. My Grandmother endured the Blitz and some resulting damage to her East London home, but after the years of the deprivations of rationing, the renewed attacks from the sinister sounding V1s were too much for her and she was hospitalised for a period diagnosed as suffering from 'Female Hysteria'.

Harry was brilliant at satirising nostalgia. His satire of BBC2 was absolutely brilliant . So brilliant I don't think the Beeb realized he was ripping the backside out of them . They probably thought it was a flattering documentary ! The sad thing is could Harry Enfield / the Fast Show / Little Britain be made today ? I doubt it . There is not enough plods around to investigate the alleged hate crimes . Strange thing - plods are knocking at my door and I haven't even finished this comment yet !!!

You fool. Of course they knew. "Whitehouse as a Brummie gangster is the show at its most gloriously silly. But its satirical sideswipes (at the BBC’s classism, its sexism, its confusion about its role) are switchblade-sharp, too. But there’s no doubting which side of the fence Love Box comes down on. “We’ve worked with the BBC for a long time,” says Whitehouse. “It’s a double-edged sword, isn’t it? We owe them a lot - and they can be very frustrating. But you’ve got to take your hat off to what they’ve produced. No one can touch them.” But some are trying to. “Once politicians get involved,” says Enfield, “and put pressure on the BBC - and the current chairman is a Conservative party donor, and what he said about Emily Maitlis I strongly disagree with - it does make me worry for the BBC. The politicians try and mask [their hostility] in ‘Are you relevant?’, ‘Are you this or that?’ But really, this is a cornerstone of our democracy, and it’s under threat.” “For me,” he goes on, “we grew up with the BBC and we grew up with the Rolling Stones. If a government spokesperson came along and said, ‘we’d like to thank Keith Richards for his great contribution to the Rolling Stones. But we’ve got this young guitarist who’s more in keeping with the current mood of the country’, to me that would be wrong. Because they’re the fucking Rolling Stones.” www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2022/oct/14/our-whole-show-is-complete-bollocks-paul-whitehouse-and-harry-enfield-on-their-bbc-mockumentary

I loved the fact the old newsreel films he made were being completely ironic about the life and times of the past. I suggest you watch them all. Especially association football and medical advances. They’re ironic to the hilt. For me his best ever skit was “The Playboys” a 5 minute piss take on 1970’s show Department S

Your reactions always crack me up, but I realise it's the first time you've seen these sketches. Just be aware that many people may not have seen the sketches either, and with your settings, the screen is almost see-through, makes it difficult to see what you're seeing. I understand the issues, but maybe make some videos (What you are watching) as see-through, so that we can see the video also? I think everyone else has said it all about these, so a small recommendation for your own time.. Men Behaving Badly Season 1 - a very funny 90s comedy. Many remember for the actor who replaced him (maybe better I admit) but Harry was acting in that in it's first season. There are some episodes on here. No need to do a reaction, just a bit of fun and a chance to see Harry without the black and white. Then further seasons get even funnier too! Thanks as always!

Creepy anyways. i think a lot of borderline pedo stuff was going on n stayed under the radar towards the children of relatives and associates in the 60s and 70s.
