I went on Channon’s gallops in 2009 and sat with Harry in the jeep and we watched work together when he was in with Tony Bloom. I was fascinated by him then and still am now. I had a great chat with him about life and life’s tribulations and I remember thinking here’s a guy who’s really lived. 12 years on and fashioned within Tennyson sentiment, I suppose; “it’s better to have won millions and lost it than to have never won it at at all”. Harry will always appreciate what he took from bookmakers and spent (they can’t get that back) vs the final big losses. I’m 4-6 that Harry has the last laugh and will be back on top before you can say Big Fella Thanks 🙏

No tax on winnings under $650 in the USA if made at an OTB. Just watch out for the managers and cashiers - the IRS comes in late evening and wants to know who is winning. I can't understand putting your own money on someone else's advice. I had Saint Roi, Al Boum Photo and Chosen Mate on the Friday. I didn't see any tipster put up three winners. Where I fall down is on how to profit from picking winners. I've taken more out of my paddy power account than I've put in, but not by much. I gave up on place pots when I realized I was getting more winners easily enough and picking the first two home in my selections, but maybe losing the placepot and not not getting anything. I don't have a system of betting. My 3 tips to live by: 1. Never back with money you can't afford to lose. 2. Don't listen to 'experts', pick your own horse and know why you've picked it. 3. Always look for value.

Im of a mind that thinks that ALL addictions are the result of some form of undiagnosed mental condition, more than likely undiagnosed Depression. Depression is a disease or an illness. I've seen first hand what happens to people when they're an alcoholic or drug addict, who are properly treated for depression and how life changing it is. You're doing the above things (in excess) because you have some form of chemical imbalance in your brain. Notice how much few Alcoholics there are these days to the 80's and 90's but how many more drug addicts there are? It's because back then, they weren't alerting people about depression, so when people were feeling depressed, the easiest way they could releieve some of the symptoms was to drink. I know what im talking about as i have a family who suffer fro depression, and it manifested itself in many forms over the years until properly treated.

a lot of what you say is fine and understandable, except for your use of the word ALL. And linking most addictions to depression is too simplistic and wrong. Your original comment with regards proportions is interesting as whilst those behaviours/addictions you listed can never be described as the same, I do think that the vast majority of the individuals who show these behaviours simply lack some levels of self control and decision making skills, and this may well be linked to the brain and genetics, for sure. It doesn't mean that they are all suffering depression or have a disease.

Nothing wrong with self medicating. This life is a total facade and if you can get through it with some semblance of enjoyment from distracting yourself with an interest then where is the harm ? As long as you keep yourself self sufficient there’s nothing wrong with it.
