Is that trombonist in the middle Bob Edmondson, who would join Herb Alpert and the TJB in a few short years? Sure looks like him.

Is it just me or is it insane that you can hear Harry above three orchestras. Maybe there was a mike overhead, but it still seems pretty crazy.

I've never heard any trumpet player as powerful as Harry.

here i thought all alog that the harry james band had 4 trumpeters plus harry but i see only 3 here. who is the drummer here in this clip,tony nicola?
@ChuckParDue19534 жыл бұрын
Harry carried three trumpets from 1957-59. Jackie Mills is the drummer.

@@ChuckParDue1953 I go on Jazz guitar worksop/ festivals here in the UK in a place called Wrexham ( actually in Wales ) Many American guitarists have come and it was great seeing them play and even chatting to them at their leisure Some names you might know,Howard Alden, Bucky Pizzerelli ( sadly RIP ) Cory Christianson,Mundelle Lowe ( again RIP ) Jack Wilkins,Ned Boyson,Martin Taylor ,Bass player Chuck Burghoffer,Bobby Broome and the late great Al Viola graced us with his presence for a week.Mundelle Lowe was accompanied by his wife Betty Bennett whom I chatted to quite amiably and I thought what a down to earth lady who knew about music.Then several months later I saw a programme on TV about Andree Previn and low and behold there was Betty,his first and who also was the girl singer with Benny Goodman,and yet she was so down to earth and modest.That is what struck me about all these virtuosos ,that they were so ordinary and polite and modest.The only blot on the music scape was an English guitarist who was so arrogant he left Wrexham with about 62 jazz guitarists,professional and otherwise, who could willingly have throttled him.He played in a UK " trio " but now lives in America and usually plays duets with great players like Larry Carlton etc.They always say " if you cannot say anything good at all about someone ,then you should say nothing at all.... and 62 jazz guitarists will say nothing at all! I'd rather listen to Harry then Luie.. Ya know what is kinda TACKY? That the drummers back then including Buddy Rich set their drums up where the cymbols where not blocking the veiw of them as a drummer.. Most great drummers have the symbols right in front of them or wherever they need to be where their most comfortable playing..

Jerry Lewis was sickening
@johnmcilroy6874 Жыл бұрын
Jackie Mills was one of the great drummers, worked in the heyday of the Hollywood studio orchestras of the 50's and 60's. Jerry Lewis was a horrible " performer". Harry had few peers on trumpet.
@VoodooDewey692 жыл бұрын
I think of Jerry actually got serious he might be able to play the trumpet a little bit

Darrol, I was thinking the same. looking at this, I think Jerry had some potential.
